Richard Branson came to a restaurant I worked at many years ago. He was put into my section as I was one of the better waiting staff. The manager, who is possibly still associated with the place told me that I was to "comp" the meal, there would be no charge. So I pulled out all the stops and gave Mr & Mrs. Branson my undivided attention. When he asked for the bill, I was pleased to tell him it was "on the house"..... They both got up, thanked me, and left without tipping me at all. Now that is how you become and stay rich !!!

This seems like a reasonable compilation of real thoughts and perspectives on wealth inequality that are held to various extents by a number of people. It would be interesting to see these same people respond to a formal statistical/objective analysis of the issue. Like: working through the contextualized principles related to inequality and how to determine appropriate reactions, individually and systemically.

this is so triggering to watch, the fact that people think that it is rational for an individual to have multiple even HUNDREDS of billions in our current global state is bewildering. maybe if we didn’t have such severe issues with hunger, housing, education and labour rights globally and things were much more equal like they should be, billionaires might not be such a problem? but the fact that we haven’t got basic human needs down globally as a human race is where the monetary focus should be!

Whilst its tied up in stock, Jeff Bezos can easily have a plan to liquidate x amount of stock(like he does currently yearly) and put that to good use. Jeff Bezos has taken more government subsidies than he's paid in taxes and due to his low wages, the workers rely on social housing and food banks, government social safety nets, so its an even bigger drain.

wealth comes from taking risks, accountability, having specific knowledge and applying it. Yes, luck does come into it but taking chances etc many would label luck when it could be character luck i.e they have the traits to spot the gap in the market. They then take on more risk (more employees and accountability )and work on long time horizons, that is how real wealth is made.

The free market economy that we have in western countries, and an actual meritocracy have no relation to one another. Capitalism promises meritocracy, but it is yet to produce one, where the rich don't dictate absolutely everything from the price of essentials like food and housing, to the market share of fast growing industries.

Just leaving a comment to praise the choice of underlining in the quotations in the video. Even the choice of which words to underline has a hint of Amelia about it
This would be so different in a city in the US. So so different.
The first thing you should define when discussing Billionaires, is the precise definition of it. It is not somebody who has £1B in their back pocket ready to disperse to the masses. It is assets, company compensation, expenses, stocks/shares, salary, and any other wealth legally theirs to own. This means business assets are counted as individual "wealth". Nobody earns £1B as a wage - if you did not know this. They merely have that wealth across portfolio and the conversion of a lot of that wealth/assets/stocks into disposable cash, or themselves or the "masses", would render the collapse of the business, all the 10,000s/100,000s of people employed in the supply chains and the admittedly small degree of corporation tax, but also would mean the end of tax in every other area of the supply chain of the company. Reasonable tax discussions are fine but the notion often asserted that their "wealth" can "end poverty" in some form is a simplistic, ill-conceived notion of development and economic strategy.

Billionaires do not work millions of times harder than everyone else
Ageing well
Perhaps we should limit lifetime inheritance per individual to £500k and any extra is paid as tax? The argument is that all the millionaires would leave, but if they're just hoarding large sums of money and we've decided that trickle down doesn't work, is it a loss?

billionaires become billionaires by exploiting the working class
Damn... biases guy.. biases. If you have to manipulate and frame, possibly the idea isnt as strong as you might think.
5:14 For this specific question, although direct, tangible money is not given to the lower classes; many would argue that huge services and brands are innovative and have administered for other smaller companies to grow and blossom. Although i do believe there is a huge partition in wealth, billionaires such as bill gates, have probably done more for Africa than actual Africans. So to conclude, wealth does and does not trickle down to lower classes, but we may benefit from the by-product that wealthy people have created, by using their wealth.
Who else is here from Happy Hour?
Be careful what you wish for. The most likely way to become a billionaire is through hyperinflation.
“What’s the good thing about capitalism” “It gives everyone a chance” Categorically untrue. Many people are born into conditions that set them up to fail in a capitalist society. Having more money = better chance at a good life = getting more money = an even better life, and so forth. Inversely, being born into a poor family or community = it’s difficult to set yourself up for a good life = you’re less likely to make money, and so forth. Capitalist gives fortunate people a chance, not the poor, capitalism is inherently not equal, hence the huge divide, hence the topic of this video being about the 1% owning 99% of the wealth. That guy was either a sheltered kid born into wealth, or he simply didn’t think through what he said.
