Here are some loc tips I wish I knew when I was in my baby loc stage, that I actually ended up learning the hard way when I started my loc journey with comb coils.
I wish I had known these short starter loc tips for comb coils sooner as it would've saved me so much confusion but some of the loc tips and tricks I've shared in today's loc tips and Do's and Don'ts video have also helped me understand my loc journey, and aide in my locs locking faster. My hair pretty much loc'd within a month of starting my loc journey especially in the back. The middle and front took a little bit longer but relatively still quicker than most.
I hope these loc tips are helpful for you no matter what stage you are in your dreadlock journey. These loc tips will definitely be useful if you're in the first month 1 - 9 months of your loc journey.
I'll see you guys in my next video. Feel free to check out my other loc & healing videos.
See you in the next one.
xx

Started my journey in may and love the frizzy stage. I have fine hair and its when i really start feeling myself. ❤
First of all… My gawd, you are absolutely gorgeous! Second of all, thank you so very much for this extremely informative video! I’m starting my loc journey next month (11/2/23) with comb coils and I’m so excited to start this self love, spiritual growth journey starting with my hair. I completely shave my hair on 1/2/23 with no plans to ever get locs but I eventually decided that this was something that I wanted to do to learn to embrace my love and admiration for natural beauty beginning with myself. I hope that everyone enjoys learning through the experiences of others by researching and watching loc journey testimonials before beginning their own journeys so that they can fall in love with the process first and foremost which I believe is going to add so much more appreciation and pride when one begins their own! I lovvvved watching and learning from this video! Thank you beautiful!

Aww thank you so much lovely. Hope next week goes well and keep me posted on how your first month goes. Omg so you basically have the same journey to me. I’ve also learned from a few others on here, which is always nice. You don’t feel as alone in your own journey. Hope mine continues to help you along yours too and enjoy the process. You’ll definitely love it, and if at times you feel like it’s a struggle, trust me there’s also gonna be such beautiful moments where you look at your locs budding / seeing the growth. The process is all worth it ❤️❤️
I have SD on my scalp too (the worst case that I've ever seen). I found out that if I limit sugar, carbs and dairy my SD reduced by like 70%. Then about a month ago my brother told me that he'd been oiling his scalp with 100% raw-organic coconut oil. I took his advice and started oiling my scalp twice a week and now my SD is completely gone. This is the first time in 20 years that I don't have a single flake on my scalp. I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for this. I’ve definitely heard about it being caused due to high sugar diet and gluten. I’ve tried to reduce but it’s so hard sometimes ngl 😂, I need to do better 😅. I’ll give the coconut oil a try as well. I haven’t used it in years!

You're welcome. And I agree, it was very difficult to stop eating some of the foods that I love. Giving up pizza and pasta was my biggest challenge. I still think about them every day lol. But I have a goal and I gotta see it through. You got this, too 💪

I started my locs a month and a half ago and I LOVEEEEE them! I haven’t been styling them but letting them do it’s thing and I feel like they’re progressing so fast. I’m so excited for them to grow and thicken more! I did my first retwist myself with oil and water and i’ll probably keep doing self maintenance every other month. I use a mix of water, rose water, peppermint water and aloe vera juice and spray everyday. Your locs are soo pretty!

Aww welcome to the loc journey. That’s it, I feel like this journey is really all about just letting them do their thing and you sound like you’re doing just that! Which is amazing! Thank you so much ☺️. This time in a couple yours should hopefully start budding if they haven’t started already. Enjoy the journey ❤️❤️
Just got my first retwist and I love them!!! I got a new loctician and she is awesome

You’re welcome hun. How is it going? Hope the last 7 weeks having been too tough ❤️. Trust the process 🤗
I am six months into my loc journey and I use Aussie Mousse and Aleo Vera juice to retwist, (Every four to six weeks) I found it is the only thing that will hold my locs. I also mist my hair daily with Aleo Vera juice, rosewater, and essential oils.

How are you finding the retwist with aloe Vera, does it give a good hold? I love the way it feels on my scalp but I found nah hair was getting messy 3 days in. Ooo we have the same hair mist routine / ingredients. It’s so good on my hair too ❤️❤️

I just started my starter locs 1/6/24 and I must say I’m excited about my journey to locking up. My sides are shaved and I have an undercut. So basically a fro hawk. I been wanting to do this for years. I can’t wait for them to thicken up and get longer.

Literally same! I’m on week 2 & my hair is so frizzy I can’t stand it 😫😫😫. I’m trying to be patient
Got starter locs around the end of june and i got the top half styled with barrels into a space bun, wish i didn’t do that because i definitely think it’s slowing down the budding process but i’m still trusting the process
@afsarosette

Yeah sometimes styles can do that. As long as you don’t keep the style in for that long it should be fine. Give your locs some time to breathe. Enjoy the journey though, hope you’re loving it so far ☺️❤️

Hiya, brilliant content. How much did you pay for your starter loc and regular retwists and would you recommend the loctician that did your starter locs?
@afsarosette
3 ай бұрын
I believe I may have paid £80 - £120 to start. Feels so long ago now but it was between that price. Regular retwists costs £80 now and it used to cost my £50-60. I no longer go to my Loctician and self maintain at home. I’m on a hunt for a new Loctician. Will do a video of recommended ones in London when I do find out ☺️❤️
I came here for the tips, ended up replayig the video like 3 times, you have that distracting beauty ...I made it though, thank you for the tips!
I just started my loc journey yesterday to me they are really thin and I feel like I dnt have enough but I'm Ganna trust the process but I'm still nervous

Aww amazing. I would say they will thicken up but if you want them much more thicker then my advice would be to either redo them sooner rather then later especially if you’ve just started them. Did you start with comb coils or twists?
Great tips

i loved this but u neeed to brush your locs like u said once matured use the soft side cos student here but it is also a preference!

Yeah I definitely agree. The brushing has been a game changer and helped with my lint so much 🥹. I just need to get rid of this buildup now lol.
I also started on coils. My hairdresser told me to come once a month for styling as it supposedly prevents my hair from unraveling. Is that the right amount of time to wait or should I wait longer before going?
@afsarosette

It’s really up to you. I used to go once a month for three months too for the same reason but looking back my hair wasn’t really unravelling at all

@@afsarosetteso would you say you can go slightly longer than once a month before retwists? Can that affect the grid parting?
Me and my mom(she has micro locs and I have traditional locs) started our loc journey together April 5th. I don’t see my loctician until next month. She told me to just spray with water but I feel like that might not keep my itchy scalp at bay. Does anyone have recommendations?
@reallycoolintrovert

maybe you can add a tea tree, rosemary or peppermint essential oil to your water? or maybe you can try rosewater or aloe vera spray..
So what’s the best product for retwist
@afsarosette
11 ай бұрын
Depends on what look you want. Some prefer gel if they want the more slicked back , manicure look and others may opt for an oil to prevent build up
