Starlight Origins - An Innocent Supe Violated On Her 1st Day, Stood Up To Become A True Superheroine

Ойын-сауық

If you haven’t seen Amazon’s The Boys yet, then how have you even come across our channel?! Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson spent well over half a decade breathing life into what has to be the most visceral deconstruction of superhero and celebrity culture of all time with their Supe-centric comic book series. In their story, the “heroes” weren’t exactly the good guys; in fact, it was the exact opposite. All Supes are nothing but a bunch of self-serving, narcissistic, borderline-maniacs, whose actions should be qualified as acts of terrorism from an objective POV; except Starlight. Out of the cavalcade of twisted, demented and depraved individuals that Ennis and Robertson introduced to us, the only character that managed to retain her innocence and her inherent sense of heroism was Starlight, who by the end, is one of the only Supes around… and her character is even more important in the Amazon show, because Erin Moriarty’s Starlight is the actual superhero of their story - a role that wasn’t given to her in the comics. So who exactly is Starlight? Where did she come from? What are her dreams and aspirations, and how did she navigate the toxic world of Vought all by herself? This video will answer all those questions and more. This is Starlight’s Origins - Explored.

Truth is if the world of the Boys had a proper comic book story Butcher would be a "Avengers level threat". I mean in the source material he was seconds away from killing every single person exposed to Compound V. Which was potentially millions of people. A lot of whom had no clue they had it in their system.

I love all the changes they made in the Amazon series. Comics have the advantage of a much narrower audience so they can tell stories that are outside the box. Cinema reaches a much larger audience, and the writers clearly understand that and have translated the story very well.

This is true for cartoon media as a form as well. Certain things that are acceptable or present well in cartoon media do not translate well to live action. Robin from Batman is a prime example. In the comics, he's passable in most stories, but a 13-year-old fighting thugs alongside any of the past live action batmen would look so silly and implausible it would take you right out of the story. You can get away with more absurdity in cartoon media, and there's also been plenty of research that our sensitivity to violence and empathy is blunted somewhat when the media is a cartoon (think about how people grimace at a vicious boxing knockout but can binge episodes of a hyperviolent cartoon like dragon ball Z without wincing once). Different forms of art require different approaches. The boys comic was good for what it was but would have been laughed off Live action television.

I think that out of all the characters adaptation to the Amazon prime series, Annie is one of the few that had changed the least in terms of physical appearance and personality. And while her origins were somewhat changed and her path took another turn, her inner character stayed the same more or less.

Why do you feel like it was "very accurate"? (Serious question). Beyoncé (though talented) is literally one of _the_ most powerful, overly hyped and overrated performers out there. In contrast, Annie (the comic book version of her) was a small town girl with no (corporate or legal) power or influence who was regularly taken advantage of by literally EVERYONE with _any_ kind of authority over her... INCLUDING her so-called 'boyfriend', Hughie. Meanwhile, Beyoncé started her career off with power. Her parents *CONTROLLED* the girl group. And even though it was marketed as a "group", they made sure their daughter was the LEAD (and only) singer, while the other girls were regulated to mere background singers doing chorus. Beyoncé was ALWAYS dressed in the absolute BEST outfits and at the forefront of the stage, while the girls got whatever leftovers Beyoncé didn't want. She was also the ONLY one "allowed"/given "authority" to really speak during interviews. Her parents also FORCED the other girls to tan so that Beyoncé could remain the LIGHTEST SKINNED member. They had it written in EVERY member's contract that NONE of the girls could get ANY sort of plastic surgeries BEFORE Beyoncé. (Kelly had to actually get PERMISSION before she was"allowed" to get a boob job, because Beyoncé had to have "first right".) When the other girls FINALLY (understandably) got fed up with this @bu$e and complained to the label, daddy Knowles got them KICKED from the group and BLACKBALLED from the label. This is all easily verifiable via Google _as well as_ interviews online. Annie didn't have that sort of -unfair advantage- "protection." If Beyoncé could be compared to ANYONE on this team, it would be the narcissistic Homelander, _full stop._

At least he's self-aware...ish...? A lot of lesser writers would have thrown Twitter hissyfits if you'd suggested that they might be even the slightest bit misogynistic. The go-to is usually, appropriately enough, "I'm just being edgy", *"It's just a joke dude",* and/or, "You're just oversensitive/trying to [censor/cancel] me". Like, man. Still nowhere *near* as unhinged as, say, Frank Miller (which was a real disappointment, as a kid who fell in love with the _Sin City_ series thanks to the movie). I *do* legit wish these edgy fellas would just, fuckin...... use their obscene amounts of money to go therapy (with someone who isn't gonna bullshit them or kiss their ass). I enjoy some of their content, even if it gets downright _stupid_ edgy (like the _Crossed_ franchise, for example), because I see the potential in things that are intriguing but imperfect (or even very, very flawed) and it inspires my creativity. The movie _Abattoir_ is an example I use a lot. Very messy, but has some really great attributes that, in a movie with a, perhaps, bigger budget and/or team, could make it a horror classic (imo). But I think it's perfectly possible to have a good balance of dark, edgy irony and satire, as well as a healthy sense of self-awareness and basic respect for others, plus the ability to know when to lighten up or take pause (narratively speaking). And I really hope more writers make a concerted effort to find and strike that balance; particularly if they are looking to send a message to an unknowably wide audience.

He doesn't even give a flip about his own life! I guess we'll have to wait and see if Butcher can be Butcher redeemed himself in a way by making sure Hughie didn't take anymore temporary V and leaving him so that Annie could find him. He still didn't give a flipping ass about his own life since he's literally fighting for it now! (Edited)

@@saraeissa4954 Nah. Cause even in the comics they cut to her in the toilet a few pages after. At least there was no vaginal penetration implied... Either way what othe comic had sexual assault as plot point? The only one I can remember is the Marvel ones, Jessica Jones implied by words but she wasn't the main victim she just had to watch, the Tigra one were the villians both men and women had a round with her, during secret invasion. Kate Bishop in young Avengers presents Carol Danvers in 80's by Marcus or whatever his name was. Other one is Mark from Invincible being serial assaulted by anissa. Batman being drug by talia and having sex with her. Everytime Poison ivy used her pheromones to kill men or take advantage of them. Is that plot works for women. Cause it's so wrong it causes anger in the read and sympathy for the victim. No one bat an eye for batman and very few care for what Anissa did to Mark. U could have 100 men being raped and most people would be like: "Ok, this is just fiction, anyway" and move on. No articles no news, no fanfare.

@@jrchickenbone and for further context, if you didn’t want it to happen to you - it’s rape. It’s as simple as that. If you feel forced, cohered, or pushed into it for any reason. *it is assault.* some people don’t seem to understand this and causes a lot of victims to be feel invalidated from the abuse they’ve suffered because someone on the internet comments “she could’ve said no” when alot of men will not *accept* no. A lot of men have killed women for saying no. A lot people, infact, are so overcome with fear that their body freezes up and they’re taken advantage of while they’re in a state of distress. How shallow of you to think that rape and assault victims have any fucking free will in the situation to begin with. They are victims for a reason.

You either don't get it or you are intentionally refusing to empathize. She shouldn't ever be in a position where she has to make such a decision. Like, ever. Do you think Homelander, The Deep, or any of the other supers had to smoke meat to join? She had about as much of a decision to walk away as any of the real-world equivalents did (political figures, great actresses, high-ranking corporate executives). Many women in high ranking positions only managed to reach such positions after undergoing traumatizing, dispicable and downright inhumane treatment like this. Situations like this that sadly do actually happen in the real world are why the "me-too" movement was kinda necessary, and to some extent, still is to this day.
