I was 12 years old in 1977 when Star Wars premiered. To this day I will never forget the impact it had on me. My father God rest his soul who was born in 1933 was old school and very critical of movies. He was with me that day and after seeing this movie he was literally speechless!! I will cherish that memory as long as I live. Thank you George Lucas for this absolute incredible saga you have made!!

Ever since I saw Star Wars for the first time and heard his score I have been a John Williams fan ever since. This score still gives me goosebumps. When you look for Academy Awards for music, John Williams is 2nd to the House of Mouse... but it took four sets of composers for Disney to beat one man. Some of his movie themes will be forgotten (for instance, the Towering Inferno) but others will stay a long time. The Superman theme (1978), the Star Wars themes (1977), Jaws, Hook, the Indiana Jones series, E.T., Jurassic Park, ... the hits just keep coming. JW, you da man!

Both grandly elegant and joyously exhilarating! I so fervently wish that I could demonstrate for each of you reading my comment how richly wondrous this music is for me. First, I love the classical symphony, and motion picture scores in the classical style. Next, I have an extraordinarily wide vocal range that enables me to sing all eight voices of the chorus. A friend I had known whilst at university, a piano performance major of considerable ability, told me that my voice could extend down to the fifth ledger line below the bass clef, and up to the D above high C (and once an A)! Unfortunately, I lack the means to afford the training and development of my talents into marketable skills, that I could earn a worthy income; and potentially even wealth, that I could facilitate young people in their own similar endeavours.

@@elainenagano2735 No doubt. I agree completely with what Harrison Ford said during a tribute: “John, you’re a genius.” And just to be clear, I wasn’t denigrating his music, only making the point that, like Tchaikovsky and the composers you mention (I’d add Holst and Korngold, too), Williams knows precisely how to evoke an emotional effect through music. He nails it every time. I think of the cue in _Jaws_ that begins with Brody seeing the shark. That music takes us on a ride. It has terror, awe, humor, tension, even adventure. The precision of that evocative sequence is incredible. Genius.

What is the use of a conductor? It is ONLY SOMEONE WHO MAKES HIS ARMS GO, what do the musicians do during a musical piece THEY LOOK AT THEIR PARTY, THEY NEVER LOOK AT THE CONDUCTORNEY, IT IS TRUE

Conductor is giving general timing synchronization. Speed of sound is such that large groups like this cannot perform without the central conductor keeping sections in sync. But beside that, the conductor is present throughout all rehearsals, voicing the piece in the way he desires. Conductor is ESSENTIAL to the interpretation of any orchestral work.
