Once you mastered the First Person view mode, doing the trench run flawlessly is THE closest to the movie experience and incredibly rewarding feel to be part of the action.

Love how when you shoot the middle Tie fighter in a formation of 3, the 2 remaining immediately say "yo FUCK this!" and crash into each other.

I dis-agree. Sure this is the first mission in the game, but it's not very involving. (You only really need to go up and down and slow down every once in a while) It also fairs pretty poorly when almost every other version of the trench run is extremely hard, (X-wing, Super, the NES / Famicom games, and in the original rouge squadron) the only other trench run that is like in this game is from the lego games.

I agree. This game is one of my favorite Star Wars game, but the trench run was felt a bit easy. The reason is probably because it's the introduction to the game, and it follows the recipe of easy in the beginning and getting progressively harder. So... I'm willing to forgive it.

EA made the map different then Rogue Leader.

"Luke, the Death Star will fire soon!" "Yeah but I like roaming around shooting TIE fighters."

i like how they even took clips and audio from the movie itself. such a nice clean up graphics from the 1st one. really nice!

I loved this game and to think Denis Lawson revoiced Wedge again too

I overall liked the space titles on PC more (have a joystick and more advanced controls), but the beauty of the Factor 5 games is the shields don't make unshielded craft almost pointless. The damage just feels so much more in line with the movies. If only I could have a good mix of the two, they were both brilliant in their own ways.

Dude this was awesome. I just started playing last night and I played just the first mission. It was so much fun. I think it’ll be my favorite though because the creators of this game is paying homage to Star Wars Arcade 32X on Sega Genesis which it was paying homage to the Star Wars Arcade Cabinet

If there is one thing that modern star wars games is missing, it is the feeling of being IN the movies. Is there a modern star wars game that actually lets you play the set pieces from the films?

This was it, I saw this in HMV and I was like "Right okay, where do I sign?". This game was a console seller and the best Star Wars game I've ever played, hands down. I loved my Gamecube and it all started with this. Also remember the slog to get all Gold medals for the missions, but I did it.

To be fair, almost every Luke was like getting the top seven people who can do Mark Hamill impressions. They were generally all good, but it's the same trick. Matt Mercer's Luke in Battlefront 2 is a genuinely new take on Luke without relying on Mark Hamill soundalikes.

I remember playing this Star Wars game along with my brother Timothy when I was a kid.

I'm pretty convinced that if LucasArts wanted to they could've have ported Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike over on to the Original Xbox and PC

Played this at a Walmart store. So awesome! That's how you do an opening level!

Just love this level so much, talk about being in the pilot seat above Yavin base, you really are there!

Sometime between when Luke is destroying the defection towers: "Red Leader, this is Gold Leader. We're starting our attack run now." (Gold Squadron heads for the trench) "I copy, Gold Leader. Move into position" (Vader and his 2 wingmen deploy)

Same logic as a lot of EA James Bond games. "007, the terrorists have a nuke on board that ship!" "That's nice, but I need to mop up this spot so my armor can glow a nice shiny gold."

The opening of this game blew me away like the battle of Hoth level in Shadows of the Empire on N64 back in December 1996.

Still one of my favorite Star Wars games of all time. Well, that and the original Battlefront games. Empire At War was good too. Oh, and Republic Commando, that was a great one. Y'know, before game companies started being extra greedy by making you pay extra just to finish the game.

The ONLY game that is good on Gamecube

I love how in the Trench run you can just brake to let Vader and the ties overtake you so you get behid them instead... I remember doing that ove rand ove rto try to get Vader, but he's invincible-

imagine the old battlefront games except you can command each individual unit to either defend a certain command post, give cover fire etc. while also borrowing the game mechanics for space battles from this game.

By and far my favorite GameCube exclusive from that era

This and the opening hoth level from Shadows of the Empire are my top 2 star wars levels!

I remember playing the demo at target. Blew my mind as a kid. Bought a used GameCube just to play this. Now I can play it on an emulator on my phone...

I like rebel strikes intro more just because it's stupid and funny at the same time 😂😂 I love it

Yes, the latter two Rogue Squadron games, the laser fire rate is cranked up like crazy. To counter balance that insane fire rate, you have to be *a lot* more careful about your accuracy if you're aiming for gold medals. That, and unless it's more of a placebo effect, it seems like in said games when you don't fire, you auto-charge up the first shot that comes out when you fire again so it does more damage. It makes burst fire an effective strategy for keeping your accuracy high.

I had so much fun playing this 1st level many many times when I was a kid, I was around 10 or 11 the game released. After the 1st couple of mission the game became pretty damn difficult to get silver & gold medals. Especially for a kid. Brings by great memories.

This game needed to be available as a PC Game just like the first Rogue Squadron game, it's a pity it wasn't...

Barbara Goodman if you have a decent computer you can get the dolphin 5.0 emulator and get the rom for this game, switch around some settings and play the game at a nice, smooth 60 fps

After years of trying, I'm finally able to play it on PC with the emulator dolphin with very little slowdown! huge improvement over the last build. Edit: It has been SOOOO long since i messed around with dolphin i only found out yesterday the 5.0 build had been out for 3 years!

​@@alfredooliva5175 I currently run a ASUS ROG G752VT, And while the into and menu are choppy, game play is MUCH improved to the point it's VERY playable. Granted my rig is a bit older and it is a laptop yet it is a very capable laptop. (no it's not a gaming laptop, it's just a laptop I play games on, I do not recognize or acknowledge the term "gaming laptop") **Your experience may vary.
