By birth yes, but she chose to be and ideally mesh better with skywalker. Just like I’m a laris by birth but now a hitt because I adopted my husbands last name. Both can be true

​@funkydiscogod no. Anikin was a skywalker. His mother was still involved in his birth and she was a skywalker. No Palpatines were involved in anikin's birth. But there is a point to be made about found family vs birth family. She felt closer to the skywalkers than her family. I was always hoping she'd let the jedi order fall and start the skywalkers who in the extended universe was actually a type of force user. As Lucas and filoni have said, Jedi can only fail, as sith can only fail, because the force requires balance.

When I had the misfortune of seeing this in the theater, I audibly shouted "what?!" While laughing at the screen. Dumbest ending ever.

What they need to do is hire better directors and writers. But I think it to little to late. They have already killed the brand

Why do we even need to move from the Skywalkers. That's where the last 3 movies went wrong. Growing up with Star Wars , I always wanted to see Luke rebuild the Jedi order and see him become a great Jedi Master. Instead , we saw him become an old man who just gave up. What a sad ending to the wonderful galaxy that George Lucas created.

​@@user-dl8le5cs6tyeah but he was under the impression that he would be a part in the story direction of the films. Did you know he had an entire saga loosely planned about the Whills of the force and gave a story outline to Disney, who promptly threw it in the trash? Made me so angry.

I love being reminded that Disney bought a series just to make it end up that all the Skywalkers die as husks of their former selves and Palpatine wins, getting exactly what he asked for and his descendant go on to live happy lives, burying what remains of the Skywalkers deep beneath the sands of Tatooine.

I dont think Leia died a husk of her former self, and Luke didn't either. Luke went out using more force power than anyone ever had before and Leia went out trying to save her own son. Was it presented like crap? Yeah, but Carrie fisher wasn't available to film more.

@@Altmetalpunk Leia was a total failure… the New Republic could GAF about her so she had to leave and form The Resistance.. while the entire New Republic got nuked under her watch… in the Mando series The New Republic is portrayed as a “joke”…. Under her watch The First Order tears through the galaxy .. while Luke runs away and hides … and Han is a dead beat Dad failure of a husband and father… Chewie is like a forgotten side character.. Lando is MIA until the last damn minute…

@Altmetalpunk Disagree. Leia was literally a husk. Carrie was dead. They paraded her discarded scenes from previous takes and used computer imaging to give her just enough life so that she can do what? Get her son killed? The story tells us that's why she gave up being a jedi and then in her final moments she intervenes so that he dies. As for Luke. Nearly all the rebels died. Let's not forget the giant explosion that killed most in that base. There were just a few that managed to escape on the Falcon. And then Luke just farts his spirit across the galaxy to do what? Annoy Ben so that he chooses to go on a murderous rampage between episodes 8 and 9? Quite literally nothing was accomplished by Luke. They destroyed the character that was meant to be the galaxy's "new hope." Instead, nothing he did mattered. In the end it all came down to Palpatine being his own demise. Which ironically is what he asked for. So we could very well see him again somehow... the Skywalkers ultimately all failed to achieve their dreams while Palpatine got what he wanted and his line continues now through Rey.

I can't wait for the line: "Somehow Palpatine returned... for a third time" and then Star Wars wars stars more than all time.

Highly doubt any ST supporter cares but Anakin was a virgin birth with the force akin to the virgin mary. That said when his blood line was extinguished then the Skywalker era ended. So Luke, Ben, and Leia died that should be it. Rey can say she is a Skywalker all she wants but she isnt decended of the force the age of prophecy was over.

I've replaced episodes 7-9 with Dune 1 & 2.

But Rey is a Palpatine not a Skywalker. She needs to Freak out and go full Palpatine in the next films!

I dont really want it to move away from the Skywalkers. I think it's just fine to keep everything connected to the Skywalker saga for the major film releases. Explore outside that storyline in the tv shows and straight disney plus movies. It ain't rocket science

I feel bad for daisy ridley. She’s a good actress but the writing for her character was atrocious. It’s a similar situation to Henry Cavill’s Superman and Geralt in season 3 of the witcher. He is a very good portrayal but the writing is so bad that there’s not much he can do to save it. Disney screwed up so bad with the sequels that John Boyega doesn’t even wanna return ever and he was probably the most exited to be in star wars when he was cast. Dude was an actual star wars fan which is rare to see an actor actually being a fan before being cast in a franchise role.

Man same. You could see how nerdy and ecstatic he was in the early interviews and over time he just became more jaded and stoic. Sad. I liked him.

I personally have no problem with the connection to the Skywalker legacy. I'm honestly looking forward to it. We will see. I'm a big fan of Rey.

I've been a Star Wars fan ever since I was seven years old and waited in line with my mom to see the first movie. I've waited in line on opening night to see every Star Wars movie since. I have multiple DVD and VHS copies of the movies. I've collected the figures, the toys and every Star Wars comic book ever published. I've had dogs named Chewy, Leia, and Jabba. I have absolutely ZERO interest in seeing this upcoming film. Zero.

Nobody and I mean NOBODY in the Star Wars fanbase wants this. The general public are also sick of this franchise. Disney need to take a break and reset with a new understanding of what made this series great.

Here's the problem, the Disney company decided not to make Luke the way he was in the expanded universe instead they made him a broken hermit similar to Yoda. It just doesn't fit with Luke's character.

The view you expressed is so rigidly Western! Every end is a beginning; every beginning is an end. Rey honored the roots of her (successful) self-discovery, not the completion of the journey. Luke started her on her way, he didn’t mold or shape her. That, I think, is a critical distinction. That “molding” is what he ran away from; it was the “old” order that died with him. But being a Jedi, using the Force, transcends any tradition or particular teaching. Rey is free to establish/create new methods and her name… well, “Skywalker” will come to have new associations. What’s old… becomes new. What’s new grows old… and on, and on.

If that's actually your biggest concern for this movie you are unbelievably dull.

I’ll definitely go see it with cautious optimism. I’ve been a Star Wars fan since 77’ and just look forward to it returning to theaters
