Carrie Fisher Can't Stop Swearing
Фильм және анимация
Have you ever noticed something strange about Princess Leia's lines in "Return of the Jedi"? Join us as we delve into the unexpected and fascinating revelation about Carrie Fisher's iconic character in the original Star Wars trilogy!
In this eye-opening video, we take a trip down memory lane to a local cinema's summer event featuring classic movies on the big screen. One of those classics was "Return of the Jedi," which gave a devoted Star Wars fan the chance to introduce his two sons to their first cinematic experience in a galaxy far, far away. Little did he know that this experience would lead to a remarkable discovery about the film's production.
Upon viewing "Return of the Jedi" on the giant screen, our host's keen ear picked up on something unusual. Almost all of Carrie Fisher's lines as Princess Leia were dubbed in post-production! It's a detail that goes unnoticed in smaller screens, but in the theater, it became glaringly obvious. We explore the reasons behind this decision and debunk the theory that it was due to an illness affecting Carrie Fisher during filming.
In our investigation, we turn to Fisher's own words and insights from her book, "The Princess Diarist." The beloved actress and writer had a frank and honest personality that extended to her language. She viewed swearing as a powerful tool for self-expression and empowerment, defying social norms and challenging expectations. We'll explore the deeper significance of her swearing and the impact it had on her fans.
As we revisit iconic moments, such as Leia's classic line "Will someone get this walking carpet out of my way," we showcase undeniable evidence of the dubbed dialogue, raising questions about George Lucas' decision-making during post-production.
Join us on this journey of revelation and tribute to the remarkable Carrie Fisher, whose portrayal of Princess Leia continues to inspire generations of Star Wars fans. According to Mark, Harrison and George most of the dialog in the original movie had to be dubbed over in post production because they could not get rid of the echo from the set of the death star interior. But I would not put it past Carrie to make it more difficult by swearing. Just check out any of her TV interviews.

Very little of this is actually true. Some people love to embellish stories or make up things for the same of controversy which is what this video does. Carrie Fisher did swear like everyone else but not like a sailor no matter what claims made by other people. If you watch the videos on KZread about this a lot of the dialogue was dubbed because of certain echos and other artifacts that ruined the natural sound. Sometimes it was even the boom mic wouldn't that wouldn't catch the sound properly. She wasn't the only one that they had to dub lines in again during post production.

In the (original) scene, Han Solo's question "Who are you?" you can see his face and mouth just fine before the cut to Leia taking off the helmet. In this vid they did a quick cut and dubbed the "Who are you?" in the wrong spot to hide Han's lip movement so they could show Leia's mouth not in sync with the sound. After seeing this apparent misleading edit, I called BS on the rest of this video.
As someone who spent a career in law enforcement and has had many stressful jobs, swearing is very therapeutic.

Carrie wasn't the only one that was dubbed in the original trilogy. Most of it was dubbed due to noisy props or because they weren't shooting on conventional sound stages. Harrison Ford complained a lot about this because he had a hard time during the sessions to make the dub, to be able to speak as quickly as he did during the filming. Not saying Carrie didn't cuss but...
The Blues Brothers is Carrie as herself. Great role, Epic Film.
She was just so awesome.

Rip Carrie Fisher
Unlikely. As Princess Leia, she spoke with a British or transatlantic accent. In fact, Carrie said she sounded more British the more Princess Leia got angry, so my guess is Carrie was asked to dub her dialogue because she may have sounded too American for George Lucas. He found making the original film stressful enough as it was without imagining Carrie was swearing when saying her lines and having to dub over them. Lucas didn't need the hassle.
Perfectly placed *BEEPS*
Pro tip: don't make April Fools jokes on April 1st - that's when they'd expect them!
OK everyone this is a joke, and you are supposed to go along with it. But I'm sick of misinformation on KZread.
You don't know what you're talking about pretty much all the dialogue from all the actors in all the movies is ADR. And if her lines appear out of sync or too clean that is the fault of the ADR editors and re-recrding mixers. Not the actor.
If they had left the lines as they were it would have given an entirely new slant on Princess Leia's character.
lol, you tweaked that "someone who loves you" part, in the actual movie the audio and her lip movement was synced pretty well. Much better than it is here.

When it came to language, Fisher sure as hell wasn't any Princess of the Tongue*
I love Princess Leia so much.
is it only her lines that have the delay? if not, i heard there's something called a "theatrical throw" (or "audio delay compensation" or "audio alignment," )where the audio tracks are intentionally out of sync, considering the distance of the audience from the screen or something.
You thi k she cussed alot in these movies? Not even close. R2D2 cussed so much during filming they had to bleep out his entire dialog.
What're the sources for this story? I've never heard it before. I'm having a hard time believing she couldn't get her lines out without throwing in some profanity.
Good to know. Your Princess swears like a trooper! Very, very good to know. Carrie, I know you’ve heard this before. You’ll always be my princess. Not my love, but always my princess! Rest in Peace. And PLEASE don’t swear in front of… You can swear by Him….

Original? The original ending of Return of the Jedi didn't have the young Anakin Skywalker's spirit or the celebrations all over the galaxy. It had the old Anakin and the Ewoks were singing in celebration.
I would guess that you watched a bad sound mix of this 40 year old film. I watched all three in original theatrical release. Most dialog back then was ALL done in post production.

Even without the cussing you could feel her emotions
I wish I could've told my mother, after being chastised for cussing on the first day of kindergarten, that I was simply "challenging social norms," LOL!
The sole purpose of swearing is not intellectual, it's emotional.
Why did you talk over all those clips?
Back in the day my room had that Star Wars wallpaper that's behind her
Almost all the lines of all the actors in all the star wars films were dubbed. ADR was created for Star Wars. The sets were made of wood and the footsteps and ambience of the stage work didn't play.
Ooo I would have loved to see the movies uncensored lmao
George Lucas "This is a children's movie Carrie. Now go put on your stripper outfit with the BDSM collar and chain and get back out there."

Could be part of the reason she didn't have much of a career outside of SW. What some call "empowered " others, usually those putting up the money, often call difficult. There are always consequences to choices.
