This is a great addition to ST franchise. Anson Mount is the "Kirkiest" of any of the subsequent main character ST captains. The ship looks like the TOS would have looked if they had the budget and technology. I'm only annoyed that a full season is only 10 episodes.

I love SNW. It strikes the precarious balance of revisiting classic Trek with a modern spin, yet giving classic Trek the respect and homage it deserves. Asian Kyle obviously isn't TOS Kyle, but an Asian guy was a transporter technician in "The Cage."

Absolutely LOVED the first season and can’t wait for season 2.
Lawrence Luckinbill had a previous Star Trek connection. He's the son-in-law of the person who owned the studio that produced ST:TOS's first season.
So proud i could make this latest vid. Any chance to talk about star trek is a good day for me.
Nice highlight, but I must object to one thing: your description of ST: The Animated Series as "widely derided". In fact, the reviews were quite complimentary and, although it could never be considered a high point in the ST universe, it did bring Trekkers a taste of the series we loved to tide us through until ST:TMP five years later. Animation, limited as it was, provided writers leeway to tell more imaginative stories which in many cases made up for the primitive visual presentation. And it was, after all, intended for children, although, as writers will do, they tended to write the stories to be a bit more sophisticated than sponsors desired.

As co-author of The official guide to the animated series, I agree with everything except for the fact that it was ‘ intended for children’ As Dorothy said on numerous occasions “we weren’t creating a kiddie show” It was a show that needed to be appropriate for kids to watch but it was made for all ages.
“What does god need with a starship?” The only good thing in that movie.
I really love Strange New Worlds! It's classic TOS Trek modernized and I really feel that it does the old series justice bringing Classic Trek it into the modern age. One thing of note during this episode you referred to the reason they went with another actor than Sean Connery for Sybok was that Connery died, which is so not true. The movie was released in 1989 and Mr. Connery was quite alive then - he died 31 years later in 2020...

Point 17: I'd like to offer a relatively minor correction: A nurse is not a doctor, and not a physician. Most people not in the medical field wouldn't spot that error, but it's very wrong to those who are in the field, or entering (like myself)! The rest of this video is pretty accurate!

In the movies she actually WAS a doctor. they had the discussion "I didnt know you were a doctor" "Its a good background for being head nurse on a star ship" but yes, youre right. She was going to be dr Chapel, then they decided it was degrading to nurses to use this
Robert April was captain of the enterprise from 2245 to 2250 somewhat more than a “hot minute“. That information was freely available on this thing called the Internet…you could use it to research your videos.
What does he mean "several echoed lines"? Once Pike travels into this hypothetical future, more than half the dialogue was lifted directly from the TOS episode "Balance of Terror"
I'm enjoying the re-boot and hope that someone is in control who can continue this re-imagining. They have the lore from the shows and books to do this right and for the first time in a long time I'm excited for the future of Star Trek.

That's funny because they've completely ignored the lore. There were no replicators in TOS. The trouble with tribbles episode wouldn't have happened if there was, and that's just one example.
I've loved this series so much. Excited for SNW season 2.
I think strange new worlds is Star Trek done right the show is great and a step back in the right direction away from all the all action apocalyptic direction they’ve been taking the past several shows like Picard and discovery although I do like them the save the entire galaxy from destruction every episode gets stale and looses it’s effect that’s why tos and tng worked so well they use those situations sparingly and to great effect
I think this is my favourite Star Trek series yet.
Strange New Worlds season 1 was 90 percent classic Star Trek and 10 percent stinkers as far as episodes go. After recent seasons of Discovery and Picard, this show got me re interested in Star Trek. Overall, this is an excellent series.
Also must point out that at one point nurse Chapel does surgery on #1, so we have two Majel parts interacting with each other. And they go to a planet Majalis? at one point?

Very impressive presentation, bro. Keep up the good work!
I loved Star Trek V. You just made me want to watch it again. Thank you for your work.
"Great", imo, is a strong choice of word to describe the new Kirk. He was good, but great... maybe eventually? I feel as though he didn't command the same screen presence as Pike or Shatner's Kirk. I'd still watch a reboot with him as Kirk, as I feel he'll find his footing.
I really liked the badass way they checked off the "spacewalk" part of the bingo.
Your comment on April being the first Captain 'for a hot minute' rings pretty true. While I don't know whether it's common with the fleet during this time, it certainly has been common in the past and still now to some extent for flagships of a line to have their maiden voyage captained by the most senior company Captain, sometimes being their send-off voyage before retirement. Famously, though potentially disputed, this was what happened with the Titanic, and possibly (again, disputed) the cause of the entire loss of the ship.
@Commanderconklin

April had the first 5 year mission, pike the second 5 year and Kirk the third
i'd much rather have the actor who plays Samuel Kirk to play James T. Kirk. his facial build fits William Shatner's Kirk so much more.
In retrospect, Kirk must have fought the lamest Gorn in the universe. That Gorn must have been a contestant from the Gorn Special Olympics. He must have just won a participatory medal for fighting Kirk.
@TAlexander-91

In retrospect, I think the Gorn captain Kirk spared was probably just killed by their own people after they beamed them back. As La'an put it, "Culling the weak makes them stronger. Survival of the fittest." What a brutal species.
Ive read alot of comments and watched lots of these videos and ive been waiting for someone to mention pikes hair, FINALLY! Because i have the same haircut.
i had no idea that was the same spock actor as discovery (haven't seen either show). how huge a difference makes with a different hair style and no beard.
when talking about the augments gerudo valley playing in the background just seemed fitting. the story of them also seemed to match the tempo. good editing.
The title should be “20 things that virtually no one who has ever watched Star Trek missed.”
the reason for the 2 parter was that the person who played pike in the first permiere was already engaged in a prior contract, then passed away. it was meant to have pike as captain on the tos series but that was a graceful way of writing the actor out an then having a second premiere introducing us to the crew we love so well. the creative team an the writers have been doing a supurb job re creating the tos series .this isnt kirks enterprise , its pikes .
Thank you
Lusting after Scott Bakula? Same.
One of the best things about the season finale of SNW? The USS Farragut looks like the USS Cerritos!
What does God need with a starship. 1. It's one of the best lines in any star trek. (along with "if there's nothing wrong with me, then maybe there's something wrong with the universe") 2. It's a valid question. Edit: massive contender for the top spot. "this is getting close to shenanigans" I laughed for a good 20 min over that.
This series is ok. I would like to see them explore new worlds by beaming down on planet surfaces more. Also pike encountering more evil aliens.
While it’s not really mentioned in the Star Trek universe, it’s pretty well known that Khan had an affinity for Corinthian leather. LOL.
11:10 that would be the greatest idea. A cartoon episode!
I like that Kyle was included in this one.
I just noticed, Pike’s hair kind of looks like the original Robert April’s in the animated series.

I thought this version of Kirk as an impression of Jim Carrey doing a Kirk impression.
I wouldn't call Laurence Luckinbill an absolute nobody, he originated the role of Hank in the off Broadway production of Boys in the Band in 1968, then played the same role in the 1970 film. Playing gay often harmed the actors careers back then. He married Lucy Arnaz (Lucille Ball's daughter) in 1980 and appeared in TV shows and movies across the decades from the 60s to the 2000s.

I've been watching Star Trek since the first episode aired in 1966 but I noticed for the VERY FIRST TIME that the second version Enterprise has the navigation lights set "aft" of the primary hull's port/starboard centerline & not parallel to it. Now I'm staring at the various kits that I've built over all of these years & wondering just how I'm going to fix this glaring mistake? Dammit Jim! I'm a modeler, not a "miracle worker!!"
I believe Sam Kirk was first mentioned on "What are Little Girls Made of" when Kirk was trying to outwit an android version of himself.
I'd like to clarify, TnG also said "...it's continuing mission..." and "...Where no one has gone before".

Although it was marked as "1701/7" the shuttle was just called Galileo. The "Galileo Seven" referenced in the title of the TOS episode where we first see a shuttle in the series actually refers to the seven crew members (Spock, Scotty, Dr. McCoy, Lieutenant Latimer, Lieutenenant Gaetano, Lieutenant Boma, and Yeoman Mears) who served as its crew during that particular mission.

SNW is showing how awesome TOS really was.
You forgot K7 station. The episode All Those Who Wander the station the Enterprise was going was K7 while Pike and a few other crew members went down to the planet. Both the original series and deep space nine went to K7 for there tribble episodes. Also Star Trek enterprise use these these are the voyages speech at the end of the series finale.
Every seems to forget "what are little girls made of" where it is made clear that only capt Kirk calls his brother Sam His first name is George
Urm....Sybok in ST5 was played by Lawrence Luckinbill, not a nobody.
Where no one has gone before, was part of the TNG monologue, not introduced in SNW. Trek was inclusive of everyone in that monologue since the 1980s.
Balance of terror was my all time favorite in the TOS. But they screwed up the intensity with interruptions with Pike and Kirk
