Benedict is one of my favorite actors out there.. I want so badly to see that movie only because I wanna see him as the bad guy but I havent seen any other star trek before... Will this be a problem?

balancedudu No, actually. I've only seen the first Star Trek. I recently seen this one, as long as you pay attention to this film, you'll understand all of it.

now shall we begin
BENEDICT I LOVE YOU
I'm a Trekkie, and I absolutely LOVE the JJ Abrams movies. Into Darkness blew me away, and I'm so grateful that these new films saved the franchise which will boldly go where no Trek has gone before.
One thing cannot be denied: JJ Abrams has breathed life into this aging, ailing franchise. I'm really looking forward to this film.
Sherlock into darkness!

I was watching "Oblivion" in IMAX today and there were so many awful trailers coming on until this trailer showed up. I had the chills when Benedict spoke. The entire audience was silentttttt.
Benedict Cumberbatch is sublime, pure elegance, class and style, absolute talent and charisma. And, omg, those cheekbones!!!
True star in this movie was BC, I found CP not strong enough for a Captain, some good effects but the story line was not as strong as it could have been. But enjoyable movie, even if it was just to watch BC evil side....brilliant.
this movie is amazing
I'm so glad Star Trek has at last returned. The first film they did was great, and this one looks like something truly awesome
Now shall we begin One of the best lines in Cinema
Cumberbatch though
And then the Star Trek Beyond trailer came out

Well, atleast the new trailer was waaaay better
The excellence of this Trek movie shows that Star Wars is going to be off-the-charts insane. I cant wait, its driving me nuts.
His "Shall We Begin" is the #1 reason I'm going to see this movie. I loved the first but that line delivery alone has me hyped. An awesome bad guy usually equals a great film.
Still find it funny how the trailer shows some great scenes but cut them to be soo misleading. Haha hide and disguise. They rly didnt want to audience to guess anything about the plot in advance
When he says that all I can think is "Why, hello Sherlock!". ;D
Can't wait. This is one of the few kind of movies that actually motivate me to go to the theater to see it. Especially if you have an IMAX nearby, even more so!!!
I'll never get tired of watching Star Trek, bring it on at anytime!!!!!!
Read what movie critics, theatre experts or every single person he has ever worked with have to say about him. Cumberbatch is without the shadow of a doubt one of the leading actors in the world. He's working with the best directors and plays all the roles actors would kill for.
This movie is so good! :) I never tired of rewatching the trailer even.
Benedict was easily the best actor in this film, owned every scene he was in.
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS MOVIE AND TRAILER MAKES ME SO BREATHLESSLY INCOMPETENT AND INCOHERENT.
I totally agree! Benedict deserves an oscar for this!
That awesome moment when Mickey Smith and Sherlock are in the same movie. THIS MOVIE WAS SO EPIC. If you haven't seen it, you need to go and see it.
I think that's how we all feel when we watch Benedict Cumberbatch. *shrugs helplessly* siiiiighhhhh . . .
Got the chills. Nobody beats Benedict Cumberbatch.
Cumberbatch gave this movie an instant +100 on the epicness scale.
I don't even watch the star trek movies but I'm going to this one for Benedict Cumberbatch -3 Cumberbabes for life
This movie felt so much like Mass Effect. I love this movie.
Somehow I doubt anyone making theses films will try to win you ever. The problem is that some fans are expecting a decades-old franchise to stay the same. It's easy for us fans to look back at what any given episode or series of Trek was and what it accomplished, but to say we know what it should be or attempt to do now and in the future is a kind of arrogance that does no one any good whatsoever. We should all be happy that Star Trek is still alive and well after all this time.
Cumberbatch makes an awesome villain. And I look forward to seeing Kirk and Spock's friendship.
Watched this trailer countless times. From 1:43 to 2:03 gives me goosebumps...can't wait until May 17th!
I admit Abrams is a good director, he knows how to shoot a movie, to get all the right shots, to build proper pacing and solid characters and even a story in his film. The flaw here is that he is just not a Star Trek fan, and I think Star Trek (as in films) need a director but it does help when that director is a fan of what particular thing, that they do have a understanding of it to a extent. Star Trek needs to have undertones of the theoretical, ethical and even philosophical for it to work.
Nonstop action from START to FINISH. Brilliantly done :)
This is the best film I saw all year. Came out today in Ireland. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! YOU GUYS ARE ARE SO GOING TO LIKE THIS
Oh man, every time I watch this 0:16 gives me the chills... well actually the whole trailer does XD

"Now, shall we begin" Ahhhhhhh dead
Benedict is such amazing actor! Any film he's in he makes it AWESOME!!
Them not wanting Kirk to go after Benedict makes me laugh...it's good ol' Sherlock! Gosh gotta get use to him being bad....AMAZING actor.
Goosebumps throughout this whole trailer. Oh my goodness.
Absolutely fantastic film...cant wait for it to come out on DVD so I can watch it again!
He's doing his signature SIX SENSE, OBVIOUSLY
Love how the ship has always been a character and still is.
Fair enough, sir. Star Trek (TOS) was also highly formative for me; to this day, it and the original Twilight Zone series are my favorite shows. Watching them obsessively helped shape what eventually became my own thematic preoccupations and informed the way I now approach storytelling in my own writing. I suppose all I was looking for in your argument was a little room for "agreeing to disagree."
IMDb's casting list has officially named Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan! I'm so pumped for this! :D
Loved it. At the end when they were deciding where to go Kirk should have said" 2nd star on the right, straight on till morning"
I'm a chick and I completely am stoked for this. Thanks Dad for getting me into Start Trek!
Which brings up a disturbing realization. Nero's little rampage no doubt changed or altered the politics in the superpowers, The klingons lost 40 warships, the federation a founders homeworld and a sizable portion of a heavily armed fleet. The Romulans would have been freaking out from the incident and the other two probably went on a ship building rampage in the years after.
I've seen the movie twice, but this trailer still gives me an insane amount of feels!
My favorite trailer! Love the music in this one
OH. MY. GOD. Benedict's voice is so damn perfect!! Grrrrrr
agreed, its not destroying the franchise. I just feel bad for all of the people being newly introduced into the star trek world, because I think they are missing out on the experience of the show which so deeply impacted my character and outlook.
Star Trek once made us ponder the technological, political and cultural future of humanity. It showed how a people more civilized and ethically sensitive than ourselves might perceive and resolve their problems. It showed us what we might achieve as a species if only we were to strive for it, and above all it imbued into the imaginations of generations the wonderful mysteries that await us here in the universe. It was inspiring. It was bigger than itself. What ever happened to that vision?
I proudly retract any and all of the possible flak and criticism I gave to JJ Abrams and the production crew for the 2009 film. This one was SUPERB. I won't give anything away about it, but if you at all liked Shatner and Nimoy's films from the 80's, the story, twists, nuances, and acting quality in this film will surely blow those out of the water or at the very least be as good as the very best of the movies from the 1980's. It's well-worth the theatre ticket folks...
Agreed, some people just feel they MUST complain or find fault in things as it makes THEM feel superior and self important.
No, the first movie was an attempt to be artsy, and though this led to the Scenery chewing itself, it still asked the question of "What constitutes life?" the only action setpiece was right near the start of the film and it was less than a minute long. Wrath of Khan was a suspense piece with short action pieces, but it was mainly about the suspense, the fact that Enterprise is crippled and Khan could be anywhere ready to finish them off, it had us wondering what his next move was.
This is a sequel to the 2009 Star Trek reboot. A movie that was not a prequel, but a re- imagining of the classic tv show and movies. But if you watched the 2009 movie, you would know that its actually an alternate timeline, and therefore not a prequel. Sincerely... A Trekkie
Oh man that looks amazing! Going to see it this Sunday, can't wait.
Why are you complaining the trailer gives away too much? We STILL do not know who the villain is WHY he is doing this and they are just showing some of the action sequences in the film to gain an audience. This is a great trailer. Just the right amount. Also there is only little new footage compared to the other trailers we've seen so far. This takes the cake.
Love the ship coming up from the water - gave me goosebumps! Can't wait :D
One last comment: You said that "Canon counts. Canon is what gives the franchise character and depth." But even you have to admit that canon can cut both ways: It can confer depth and richness or it can become a millstone around the neck of freshness and creativity. Remember: Art abhors a sacred cow.
Hey, he's entitled to his opinion, let him have it. And personally, I agree with him. From what I could understand, the writers of TOS were attempting to frame current social and political issues in a light and perspective that hadn't occurred to many people. It drove home meaning and messages without shoving it down the throats of the audience members. And at the same time, opened the imagination to new worlds, new problems, new ways of solving them. Also, the characters were ... FASCINATING.
Two songs. 1. Knightfall by Immediate Music 2. Icarus by Superhuman I think both are now up on KZread. =)
I have seen that today. Benedict Cumberbatch - oh my, oh my, ooooooh my...
"You are a pawn, Kirk..." God, he's a badass villain.
Star trek has always been thought provoking, watch the episode Drumhead, The Measure of a Man and Pre-Emptive Strike. Tackling issues such as "Is Terrorism a justifiable way for the people to be heard.", "Where do we draw the line on Human Rights?" and of course "What is life?" and it gives both sides of the argument. This just asks the thought provoking questions such as "How much Lense flare is too much?" and "How big an explosion can we have on screen?"
I'm so looking forward to this film.
Agreed, absolutely.
i am nerding out so hard right now. i'll probably watch this until i pass out tonight
I remember a line from the Final TOS movie. "People are afraid of change" Kirk from Undiscovered Country. The old TOS and maybe the TNG series is over. let Star Trek change accept it and inspire a new generation of people. Its fitting that it returns to the TOS era but to a new generation of people in current times. Into Darkness indeed does reflect our current era
Wow! How did you get to see this one so early?!
'Leeked'... *bursts out in laughter*
DO YOU KNOW HOW LOUD MY SCREAMS ERUPTED WHEN I SAW BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH
That gave me chills. I WANT TO SEE IT NOW!!!!
Can't wait, my blu-ray arrives tomorrow.
This trailer is insane. Can;t wait to see the movie
I've just watched this movie, and after watching this, I'm watching it Again!
When seeing that mammoth sized ship appearing before the Enterprise, did anyone else but me get that sinking feeling?
Great movie. Benedict Cumberbatch and Peter Weller make awesome villains.
of course!
Its like try and Imagine Kirk, Spock and Bones exploring the engineer's temple/facility, they would be very cautious but also slightly inquisitive. That to me is what a new modern take of "Star Trek" should be about.
"Shall we begin?" *swoons*
I just saw the movie right now! So awesome. it was really loud in the theater though.
The first thing that came to mind at "the darkness is coming" was "maybe it can stop the lens flare."
It's not just that I'm a fan who feels the franchise is being mishandled, Abrams did a pretty good job with the last movie. Yeah, it was more of a fast-paced sort of flick but it maintained a very human quality to it that made it still feel like Star Trek. What a lot of us are worried about is that won't carry over so well into this movie. Time will tell, I suppose :)
Thank you!
This will be the film where everyone in the theatre room will be cheering for the villain.
this a very good movie :) i loved the kirk and spock friendship which i thought was adorable (hey fighting lol) and heartfelt :)
So freaking excited!
Agreed. Cheers.
Gives me chills
Great stuff vor Trek fans: The "Phoenix" and the "NX-01" on Admiral Marcus`s desk; Sulu talking about getting used to a certain chair; Bat`Leths and TOS klingon disruptors...
I completely agree with you.
I love the first film but this one looks fantastic. Benedict. Oh Benedict.
