Might be a controversial take, but I enjoy Spock's friendship with Pike more than his one with Kirk. There's just a sense of closeness and humanity that older Spock loses as he commits further to his Vulcan side.

I feel like that's a take that wouldn't stand up to much scrutiny. TOS-era Spock is a *very* emotional one, if you know what to look for. And their relationship in the movies is...well, let's say there's a reason Kirk and Spock are the inspiration for "slash fic".
