Standup Comedy - Choosing to Feel Offended
Комедия
My first time doing standup at The Bill Murray in London. (23 Feb 2020)

Themed on choosing to take offence and why it's not always advisable to accept yourself just as you are.

yes indeed. I'm also applying stoicism. Principle of temperance.
That was so delightful. Seeing my favorite voice of Seneca do stand up is a blessing of modernity.
Half-heartedly 😂.. As a fellow stoic I feel strangely proud.
Robin, this was awesome! Your tone and timing were on point!
Wow! You made my day. I’m so fascinated with your narration of Seneca’s work. Thank you.
Excellent timing and delivery. Shame on me for not watching this sooner when I greatly enjoyed your parody of Seneca.
I come to this channel for the stoicism but I happen to be a one-time comedy geek and I also like video games, so you were a triple threat here. I thought that was a very good performance. It's a lot better than a fair bit of stuff I've seen on the big TV shows, such as Live At The Apollo. I noticed you also described your physical/facial appearance in comedic terms which seems to be something every comedian has to do these days.
Showed this to my GF and she actually really liked it! hope I can see this more often!

@@VoxStoica you know a lot of people say “2020” but surprisingly for me it has been my best year, I learned so much and made so much progress on my KZread channel. Finally all these years of effort(6 years) and I can run my own business. This 2020 I realized I was just in the wrong head space and failed to take the opportunities in front of me. I would love to narrate for your channel!

@@SERGE_Tech Awesome, yea it does tend to take several years before you start to see the fruits of your labour on KZread. Glad to hear you're managing to make progress even amidst the adversity. That said the year wasn't great for finding standup comedy venues.

This was awesome, lovely to hear your voice and see you do stand up as I love your reading of the Meditation. Thank you

Thanks Andrew
That was great! I love how you introduced at the end the idea that one addiction brings the next one closer.
I've been listening to Robin's audio books for a few years and this video has just popped into my feed! Well done sir. Sterling performance 👏
Very funny, I’m still laughing as I remember some of what you said. Thanks for sharing this side of yourself self with us. ❤

This was actually funny I want to see more

The question of self acceptance vs self improvement is a bit of a conundrum. The largest periods of growth were during periods of self acceptance, (for me) but there is the practical matter of improvement as well. It is also not well defined because perhaps self acceptance could be the acceptance that a person is an addict and it needs to change and it will hurt to do so? That isn’t just accepting, but it also is a clear evaluation. Idk it is a fine line that I seem to struggle with. Finding the right answer is required to defining the right goals as well so it isn’t trivial. Perhaps the best definition of self acceptance is the clear evaluation of ones actions and their effects?
God I enjoyed this. Thanks.
Interesting, how I randomly discovered it exactly 3 years later.
Really funny stuff
What a very British comedy act. I love it.
this was good.
Talent is, when practice meets opportunity. When your enemy thinks you hustlin` far away, hustle close to him. When he thinks your are hustlin` near hustle far away, too.
Haha, really awesome. Well done. Great jokes and great delivery. (Little disappointed that you decided to not half-heartedly hustle after your self-improvement. ~Life Coach) :-D
Hahahahah love hustling jokes hahahahahahgagagagha half hustling ahahhahahha , have always loved all you content
A lot of people where laughing but I am terrified.
haha this was great, more of this please 👍 could be uploaded to a side channel even
This is good. Why did we evolve homour? Probobly to learn... not just to spasm with pleasent barks. This delivers both.

Jason Statham shrinked a little i see ..
that was really good. only thing is i think you could have given the audience just a tiny bit more time to laugh before continuing. overall great performance though, could easily imagine you getting big if you wanted

Yes, totally agree about giving the audience time to laugh.
Hmm. Maybe you should look into Dudeism-the Stoic philosophy for underachievers.
This FYI was given to your latest video but I am concerned more knowing that you're also a performer. There is a new media resource classifying KZread Channels according to political content. Your channel is being listed as "Religious Con", "Anti-SJW" etc. This channel got mistaken (I think because of the discourses but maybe the jokes or comments). Mistaken inclusion is starting to be a problem for others, called Transparency Tube. Some are successful requesting removal through the Twitter account. I wanted to give you an FYI so you can remedy the problem before it can get out of hand.
Good work mate good in you, talking about meaningful things. Also you may want subs and a sex me audio track.
Sometimes audience laugh unnecessarily.
Ok.

Woah, first to comment
I don't get it. So, you are deciding to lie to get a laugh? How does this fit with your world view? What is the purpose of this? Are you really addicted to video games? All this video did is cause me to lose respect for you. I'm not trying to be harsh or to condemn you; I just didn't see this one coming and it doesn't match who I imagined you to be based on your YT content. Perhaps I'm bias because I hate stand-up since it's just people lying to get a cheap laugh. To each their own I guess. P.S. I didn't laugh. Especially since your message at the end was to not try to improve yourself and be content in your sin.

Video games were something I became addicted to growing up, but I'm not anymore as I chose to deliberately change who I was. The point of the set is to say we shouldn't take self-acceptance too far, as if we accept video game addiction as "part of who we are" we could also accept heroin addiction as "part of who we are".

@@VoxStoica The message seem to be the opposite to me. I have had my own demons to fight in this life so I'm not placing myself above you. I just expected you to use the set to teach a deep philosophical principle. I definitely didn't get the message you just stated and do not see how I could have. Perhaps I missed something.

Thanks for the feedback, it's hard to know how things will be received until theyre performed. If you got a different message then I definitely wasn't clear enough in my routine. The intention was to act out an alter ego that had gone down the route of choosing to take offence, and viewing addiction as part of himself and so (reductio ad absurdum) arrived at the conclusion of accepting his heroin addiction.

Saying something that isn’t literally true is not necessarily lying. You must be familiar with the concept of a joke, no?
