Stacy's Video Diary: Jac-Episode 18- Keeping the colt soft and willing during first rides

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Total training time 21 hours 30 minutes
Stacy reviews the cues she will need when riding a very green colt; bending from the ground, bending while moving, voice cues, dressage whip means go forward and bend to stop.
Jac is noticeably more relaxed about these exercises than the last time he was videoed.
Stacy demonstrates how she will half-way mount up as part of her training. The biggest reason for this is that it is an easier position to dismount from as you can simply push away. Stacy demonstrates the half mount both standing still and moving as well as the emergency dismount of pushing away.
Stacy shows mounting and dismounting from both sides, repetitively, to build the colts confidence.
Stacy shows how she likes to hold her reins, whip and saddle during the first rides and explains why.
Can you see how the groundwork and the mounted work are so similar that there is very little difference aside from carrying the weight of the rider?
This is the story of two-year-old Jacs Electric Whiz (Jac), the last baby out of Whizards Baby Doll, better known as "Roxy". Roxy touched the hearts of horse lovers around the world when she and Stacy Westfall made history with their bareback and bridleless freestyle reining ride. The loss of Roxy in 2012 has left a void in the equine community.
Although nobody can replace her, Roxy's spirit lives on, not only in our hearts, but in Jac as well.Join us as we follow Jac through weekly videos documenting his training journey from his first session to his first show and more. It is a journey filled with questions, breakthroughs, setbacks and accomplishments... and everything in between.

What a willing and gentle boy, he's really a different horse than from when you started. He hardly looks green at all! Always looking forward to your next video.

Hi Stacey- I notice you don't use protective boots on his legs. Is there a reason? Thanks
