I think we may need a shootout between this Sony, the Yamaha R202, and the Onkyo 8220

I own both the str-dh190 and the R-S202. I would love a shootout here because it takes me too long to switch speaker wires to really compare. R-S202 produces much more low frequency bass but the Sony seems more dynamic.

Sounds as good as the two Denons and the other Sony. Not bad for $200, and 100W/channel to boot

Maybe I'm not giving this little amp it's proper cred. The Dentons/Peachtree combo is technicaly better maybe, but this pair is just as fun, and would remain more enjoyble to me through a wider array of music and listening preferences. While the Peachtree adds definition, more listening fatique will come knocking with it, I'd bet.

I find this very similar to the Denon DRA800H and it's a great bang for the buck straight forward amp if you can find one.

Here's a sound sample of Andrew Jones' latest speaker for Mobile Fidelity, very much in the Tannoy tradition, a 10" dual-concentric driver for $5k a pair. I think they're definitely too big and bassy for small rooms kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYlqmdSDY5bLito.html

@@DougMen1 I once saw Harbeths described that way and I think it suits them. The M30s are the most most thrummy to me. They add a texture to the mid range, like a resonance which shouldn't be there but sounds "right", especially on the M30s. A car tyre is said to thrum on the the road surface. From Oxford English dictionary : make a continuous rhythmic humming sound.

This amp is still a good sonic value, but to me it's just not as clear, detailed, vivid or nearly as sweet and lifelike in it's midrange as the STRDG500. (RIP) 😬... and some other amps of course
