faresdessouky: Lost yesterday in the quarters of the world open to Ramy Ashour and you know what it is like to play Ramy in Egypt all credits to him.. It was great to be with Ramy on court after all those injuries he suffered and i wish him best of luck for the rest of tournament I think we played good and fair squash throughout the match yet i owe him an apology for not completing and stepping out of court in the 3rd.. I know thats not a sportsmanship thing to do but i struggled alot with the refs' harsh decisions accompanied by the video decisions throughout the match where at some point i couldn't handle the pressure specifically after the last supposedly stroke to me where i realized i was playing against Ramy and the refs at the same time and that they were trying to punish me harshly by not giving me any chance to survive on court At the end of the day im still happy with the way i performed this tournament , Im sorry to all my fans and family if i let you down..i thought i wasnt far from victory but I'm still 22, still learning from my mistakes and i know ill keep on gaining more experience by time on how to deal with situations where not everything is on your side.. I've learned alot in this tournament and i promise i will be back stronger and more mature.. Thanks to all who supported me this week.. My family, my sponsors and my coaches.. And thanks to Wadi Degla Club for hosting this great event

Fares, it takes massive courage to come out and say this. It is hard when you're playing against an awesome player like Ramy but impossible when you have the refs against you as well, you will do much better. Stayed focused and positive! As for the kids, they will learn too!

Feel sorry for Dessouky his very passionate in his game that he hates to argue over points.. Plus I feel most of the players would stress their points if they could complain in their own language instead of English.. What defeats most players flow to win sometimes it's the referees. The put off one player emotionally so the other player they favor can win..

Other commentators should have taken mic from that kid. Cancer or no cancer that was bush league. Should we all look at our own personal problems and then gauge how much disrespect to others we should dish out? Justify bad behavior by how sad our own personal life is? A very admirable quality to this game is the gentleman-ly behavior towards opponents. Wouldn't you have thought more of this kid if he said- "He looks like he is going to cry. I have been there before. This game can destroy you." The trolls on here applaud the insults? What life do you have?

We have all been young and been through that stage of life, it's even harder with the high level pressure you are under. You have immense talent and don't need to use any tactics other than to play great fair squash, you'll go far. Use Ramy as a good example or mentor later, people love ramy for his skill but equally for his sportsmanship.

graemenawn that should have been a stroke. but my guess is he was already frustrated from previous decisions made against him or something. like the previous one where the let was over turn. also maybe because the audience were cheering Remy and that got to him. or maybe he threw everything at him and still hoping his body will give way but nothing happened . it really a funny last part to the match.

IMO that's maybe the most common reason for arguments about strokes (the ball not having actually arrived where it could be played) but here it *looks like* (can't be definitive with only one angle) that Dessouky could have reached forward and punched the ball for a volley before Ramy had fully cleared the front wall.

Whilst I think that is unprofessional to do that in the world championship, you can actually feel his frustration if you watch the whole match. He had many instances of contact, but because the refs feel he wasn't trying to play the ball and then gave him no let (even after video review on 2 occasions). And every time Ramy had similar situations, Ramy got the lets because he was trying to play, which I guess from his perspective on the court was very one sided. So yeah, I guess the yes let on match ball was the last straw, and I guess at 22 with such a huge opportunity it is quite difficult to handle.

Fares is just disappointed, poor guy.. Must be frustrating to play Ramy as he's such a dynamic player. Got to be calm tho and remember to be a gentlemen and a good sport. There's really no point in playing if you're not.. No real winners if there's a lack of sportsmanship, only lossers. Suppose there is a lot of money at stake! ;)

Can someone explain why it should have been a stroke? I don't understand why the play was halted.

Ramy doesn't need to be helped by refs. Ramy is still the king and these decitions affect squash

Like many people around here, I love and root for Ramy every time he plays. However, that was a stroke. I sympathize with Dessouky. I think one has to have the right to say: I shouldn't be bothering with an unqualified lot like you. Squash suffers from a very bad affliction - referees...

Irrespective of how he felt you can't walk off in a 1/4 of the World Championships because of the officials. Very unsportsmanlike, let himself and the sport down. We are trying to get this sport into the olympics and sportsmanship is a massive part of that. Would you see Federer or Nadal walk off the court at Wimbledon because they didn't get the desicion?? You have to be professional to the end take your frustration out away from the public eye not in front of it and except what is put in front of you. Dessouky has never done himself any favours with the officials in the matches I have watched him play in...

Fares attitude is NG..ok well.. Having said that its been a while already I strongly believe that we will see the real face of Ashour when a new rising star, that he is not anymore, will humiliate him... You can clearly see how bad he is at losing (against gaultier whenever gaultier won, mosaad etc) with no handshake and so on.. He is a great player but unfortunately like many of his country and in our era, terribly lacking humility... Please no Ashour or Shorbagy winner! May Abdel Gawad win the tournament!!!

Absolute disgrace. Dessouky first asking for a let without interference. And then crying over a controversial decision. It looked like a stroke but Ramy got out of the way. From another angle, it might just look like a let. And if a let was called, he should have manned up and played. Dessouky wasn't a girl for crying, but he sure as hell was a pathetic loser for quitting the way he did. He should have been fined for unsportsmanlike behavior.
