Yeah, that happened to me back in elementary school. I was in my pajamas when the alarm went out. Luckily, the fire department was next door but for us we had to stand outside with our pajamas on in temperatures below freezing with snow on the ground.

Tell me about it! I saw the maximum-broad-daylight temp forecast for Chicago, on TWC and most of the midwest, IIRC.The forecast was -15 for the maximum temp for January 30, IIRC. Probably wasn't that much different on February 1. Reminded me of Windy City Rehab, even when I have the feeling that her leaking pipe incident was before this.

They fixed it using the power of Flex Tape!!

Holy Shoot-guy that goes to my school works at a volunteer fire department said his grandpa nephew has some 1905 era Fire hose nozzles I asked if I could have one he said those are his and even if I sneaked one of them he'd notice-he has 65 of them-I am however getting a 2010 new era one.

So that particular building staff manually call fd via callbox? Would think that alarm system would have a dialer to monitoring center. Maybe they don't want to pay a subscription to have the system monitored, someplaces its a law in certain commercial and industrial facilities.

No, that call box actually does trip automatically (Chicago works weird) this is common practice here. Still uses the old-fashioned city tie.

Yes, a water flow bell. (Goes off when a water flow switch is triggered.)

@@TheFirePanel that's INSANE. I assume they have a 24/7 guard, but still. Imagine a smoke detector in the 9th floor elevator lobby with recall - The guard has two choices: just go ahead and hit the manual pull for dispatch or walk up 9 floors, verify that there truly is a fire, walk (run) back down and hit that manual pull. If he chooses the latter the consequences could be catastrophic!

That is a lot of water, drying that must be absolutely insane. Why is it that the call box is required? Is there some sort of failsafe if there is nobody present during an alarm?

The call box is used to actually dispatch the fire department to my knowledge. As for a fail safe, I know the university is alerted but I don't know if fire will ever be auto dispatched.

i think you did capture this footage and put it in his what a fire alarm fail the sprinkler pipe just burst. that panel needs to be moved or replaced big time.

Didn't the fire department give you guys shit for not evacuating a public place in time of a fire alarm. Cause in the end you have a pipe break due to freeze up in the plenum but it's the AHJ that will do the investigation to determine wither an emergency is cancelled or not. AHJ hence why you never silenced the system alarm or shut down the alarm valve as the is a violation of protocol until AHJ says safe to do so..

I'm surprised that it wasn't dry piped off a solenoid valve. I would never run a wet within a vestibule that is exposed to winter temperatures specially being prone to sub artic temps.

U a alarm tec and don’t know how to cut the water off? Just waking around filming strobes while water causes 1000s of dollers in damages! I’m a sprinkler guy and I know a alot about your side I picked up on my own. And u can’t cut the freaking water off or at least help who will?
