Spring Pop Up Carp Fishing with Darrell Peck | Masterclass 9

Спорт

Korda carp fishing expert Darrell Peck tells you everything you ever wanted to know about Pop Up fishing at a time where fishing is at its best... Spring.
Darrell is a master of finding fish and slinging single hook-baits at them, so there is no one better to guide you through Pop Up rigs to suit any Spring or Summer situation. Filmed at the iconic RK Leisure Wraysbury North lake, this film will educate and inspire in equal measure.
He takes a variety of Pop Up rigs through their paces including Chod Rig, Hinged Stiff Rig, and Spinner Rig.
In recent times, for many anglers fishing a pop-up involves the use of a spinner rig, and although Darrell does use one during these sessions at Wraysbury, he actually shows how much more effective other presentations can be at times, especially when fishing over debris or low-lying weed.
Hinged stiff and chod rigs feature heavily in this chapter, and Darrell shows exactly how he likes to tie them and the materials he uses for doing so, as well as the importance of the buoyancy of your pop-ups so they continue to hold the rig up off the bottom, and how to ensure that happens consistently.
The intensity and technical knowledge of this icon is unrivaled, this is a real must-see Masterclass.

After carp fishing for 20 years now I got caught up in a rig battle in my own head for years finally told myself too stop trying all the latest nee rigs and just sticking with 2-3 for pretty much every situation the main emphasis being in hook sharpness and good knots

A nice touch was seeing the dramas left in. With the fish hung up on the other rod, presumably that line had pulled tight into weed stopping it coming in. Had that happen before myself, and reassuring to see it even happens to the pros. Be great to see things like this discussed on the vids more, a bit like the fish in weed. There probably some of the best things we can learn from the pro's, to help with converting takes and fish safety. Plus makes us feel better about our own blunders!

I can't help thinking that releasing the lead every time you play a fish on a lake with a big head of carp or more likely bream is : (a) Going to be very expensive, a 3oz Korda lead is £2 a pop. (b) not good for the fishery with the quantity of leads being left on the lake bed. I appreciate that a low stocked, weedy lakes such as those found in the Colne valley are perfect for such a set up. However the vast majority of anglers watching this video will not be fishing such waters. These set ups are a great innovation but I am not sure they are ideal for a lot of anglers.

I think all these different rigs components are designed to catch the angler , not fish. Basic course fishing rule of thumb is to use a weaker hook link than the mainline. Yet carpers flip that on its head , and use stronger end gear , than the mainline. If you snap , or tether a fish, then you always snap at the weak point . These crazy carp rigs snap behind the rig swivel leaving all that crap in the water or the fish . The zig rig is a good example of not needing heavy braid and all that unnecessary crap . Presentation seems to take priority over fish care . If fish care was priority then the weak point would be by the hook . These products are designed so the anglers loose components then buy more . All the under the illusion of fish care haha. If you're fishing using ridiculous end gear , then let's be honest, it's not for fish care . 15lb main, and a 12lb link is more than enough to land fish to 40lb . Snap at the hook , not behind the swivel lol. Dropping leads all the time ? Seriously? Good for the environment I suppose? It doesn't make you a better angler. If anything it gives a false sense of security. Look at the amount of rigs and leaders etc in trees . All I want to leave if u snag is a hook . I've still got the same leads I've had for the last 3 years. Running rigs , and weaker hooklinks is all you need lads . Dont get suckered in by sales pitches. Over kill

2022 and people still have the antiquated view that if your rig, pulled across your hand turns and bites then its a good rig. That effectively means as long as the fish picks up from the same angle as you hand and moves off in the same angle as your hand it will bite. But 99% of the time if you get that same rig and put it in hand with the led under your hand as if the fish has picked it up from another angle that rig wont work, likewise if instead of pulling the rig across your hand you move your hand toward the rig again, as if the fish was moving the opposite way it will fall out. If we assume that a carp can pick up from 4 main angles that means you are missing out on at least 1/4 of all chances. And depending on which way the carp are entering your area you could miss far more bites.
