SPRING LAMBING 2024 HAS BEGUN! ...but was it too soon?? | Vlog 774
After waiting patiently for lambs in my Winter lambing group, I was not expecting my ewes in this spring group to start lambing EIGHT days early...
And it usually means trouble.
I'm trying not to relive my spring lambing from 2023, but oh boy, it's starting to feel all too familiar... and it's not one I cared to go through again.
We have our first ewe go down with pregnancy toxemia, and even in this video you can see her getting worse with every passing hour.
I induced her immediately, so I'm hoping she will lamb in good time to give her a fighting chance of survival.

The slurping noise from the tiny lamb having his bottle was the best sound. I was rooting for him!
Note for clear headed sandi...mark your glycol and lube bottles (the big ones!) So brain fog sandi doesn't grab the wrong one when treating! It happened before (twice actually) so help your future sleepy brain and mark them now. Colored electrical tape on the handles or color in the lids...maybe nail polish on the lids....anything to make them different so you notice. Will help if you run out of lube and have to tell Carissa which bottle to grab or anyone who might be close by in the moment. Just trying to help you out with things I've done that helped😊

Totally agree. Last Monday was a bank holiday here and no vet available. We had to pull out a dead twin from a ewe which had already born a healthy lamb the same day. It did not look as if there was a second one and she did not have twins before. Anyway, because of you, Sandi, I knew what to do. We could not save the huge male lamb which was stuck with one leg bent to the back but we could save the mom for the little first born....
The first mama is amazing! Not only was she constantly calling for her baby while he was warming up, when he came back she was so attentive and how protective was she anytime piper came close! Absolutely beautiful mama and baby, so sad she lost the other 2 but what an absolute blessing for the wee little one!!!

@@19queenbee55I did notice that mama sheep stomp her foot every time that Piper came near. I was worried about Piper getting in the pen with the new lamb and mama could act very protective with consequences for Piper.
It was great to see that ewe happy to have her lamb return. Talking to the lamb, stomping to warn Piper and the licks were all the best signs this little guy will have a chance.
When you hear.. that’s a foot! You just know. Things really can only get better. You got this, you’re such an empathetic farmer. And an insperation. ❤
Just love Kensey licking the baby lamb and Lucy "helping" you get the lambing kits ready. Piper cracks me up with the sheep; she is sure not afraid of them.

Kinsey keeping Piper away from the new protective mum and licking the lamb in the warm room made me smile. Those are HER sheep and she's going to protect them from the stress of the curious pup, and help Piper learn their boundaries without getting hurt. She is a wonderful sheep dog, and Piper is learning too! Lucy likes to help mum Sandy do the prep work too. They're all such different characters and make me smile. Plus, I love how a few ewes always come to check on the new mum and baby. So sweet.

Sandi, I am always so happy to hear you tell everyone that they should listen to their veterinarian’s advise because if things go wrong that’s the person who will help them through it. My daughter is a DVM so I hear about the frustrations. I love your channel! Happy lambing!
I have been watching some sheep farmers in the uk ,and a lot of them have had problems with lambing, your not alone .I love the way your voice changes when you treat your sick lambs and sheep it goes so soft and gentle, they know you have there best interests at heart ♥ please don't be hard on yourself y,you are amazing ❤

I know that the ewe with the single surviving lamb wasn't how you wanted to start off this lambing cycle, but I'm so happy the little boy pulled through, and we got our first Sandy greeting of a newborn - I get the biggest smile listening to you greet the newborns. ❤😄 It was quite a mixed bag of good and not so good, with the pregtox momma and the need to put down the other ewe, but I'm glad that there was reason to see a smile on your face at the end. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that pregtox momma lambs out ok. Take care, and I hope you and the family had a happy Easter. 💞🐥🐰🌼

Thank you! I was getting a bit... grumpy?... about so many comments going on and on about "what a sad begging for this lambing." I'm like, "Sandi has a live baby! Did you miss that? Did you miss how happy she was that the little one lived and was accepted back by its impatient Mama?" So thank you for noticing the good along with the difficulties! If all Sandi ever saw was the negative, she would have had to quit a long time ago. She'd have no followers. In the business that she's in, sure!, she has to take in her losses along with her gains. Anyway, just thank you for taking it all in. The negative-ness in the comments and then so many people commenting on Tara's vocabulary instead of noticing how amazing she is, was getting to me.
Things will get better. Loved Kinsey licking the little lammie. And Lucy wanting a cuddle. ❤ I'm thrilled to see you and Tara Farm's together. Age doesn't matter between adults, mutual respect, and same but different farming techniques! ❤❤❤ mad respect for you both!
While I am extremely excited for lambing to begin I’m so so sorry it has started off the way it has. IT WILL ONLY GET BETTER 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻!!!🪻💚🙃

I think Mama helped take off her son's sweater. She was thinking " none of my other babies had this! What is this new-fangled nonsense?" So glad he's doing well! Such a tiny mite! 💕💕
I hope the joy of the successes/saves outweighs the pain of losing some babies. Your caring is so very evident that it's not just about saving the $. It's about saving the life. One of many reasons you are so loved and respected 💕.
I actually found myself nodding with you and repeating things can only get better. I love your dedication to your sheep, your work ethic and your natural charm keeping me waiting for and watching your videos.
Mentoring , sharing, and passing on wisdom is what humans need to do more of. We have never met, and I am older than you and your husband. I have learned so much from you. Age is not the key issue, sharing and promoting each other is.

I think that all of us smiling & nodding w/you that the little guy could only get better did the trick. Well, maybe the sweater & hot box helped, but I still think it was the laughing & nodding. Sandi, you are a kick❣️🥰 😂😂😂 🐑 BTW, I'm sorry you had to put the struggling ewe lamb down. I know you hate having to do that, but you've worked w/your sheep enough now, you know when it's time, even though you hate doing it. My heart always goes out to you at times like this & when your lambs don't survive. ❤😢
Sandi, you show us the cycle of life, so important for city dwellers like me. It’s reality with all joys and losses. But joys along the way. ❤ We love your channel.
Oh wow early lambing is off to such a rough start! You are a fantastic shepherd and you take amazing care of your flock - because you care!
Friendships comes in all ages... Tara is mentally years beyound her age. And that's a good thing...
THINGS WILL ALWAYS GET BETTER !
Sandy, don't forget your mom with Pregtox could need thiamine (B Vitamin) or potassium! It's worth a shot!! Selenium could also be an idea! I'm just saying something because those things definitely will not hurt her!! I know you know what you are doing, please don't doubt we know that. You have had a ton of stuff going on though, and with an early lamb, you may have just forgotten about those other things. I hope that helps! Keep up the awesome job. Did you remember to put your handheld sheep milker in your kit, too? I saw you remembered the resuscitation tool. 😊I know how much you love your sheep, and GREAT JOB on the early lamb, he came back so nicely!!
Yep, I’m nodding with you…things will get better!🙏🏻😊❤️
Every lambing is different, but absolutely my favourite Brock Farm experience, especially the efforts in getting those temps to 37C.
I always love hearing the ewes' little talking-to-baby noises, they're SO sweet 💗
I love the lambing, even when things are problematic. You are good, Sandi; you make decisions from science, experience and heart. Good mix!
Love the little sweater. You are such a good shepherd. You love your flock and it shows ❤
It was so cute when you were fixing the bottles and Kenzie walked over and started licking him. It was so cute like she was going to jump in for mom and and start cleaning them up and everything like a puppy.
Sandi, I have watched you and other sheep farmers but I must say you are the one with such heart. I love you for it. You care so much for the sheep. You feel the births and deaths. I would be like you. You have a lovingly open heart. Don’t change! We love you!❤
Oh my, lambing started early. I'm so glad that that little one was able to be warmed up by Sandi and returned to its momma. Its momma was very attentive to it and happy to have her baby back.
Love how the other ewes are interested in new baby
Sometimes you can do everything right and animals still decide to do things wrong. Nature cannot be taught or beat. Especially with so many sheep in such a small space. ❤ Keep being you sandi! Loving how your farming recently. It’s hard but good things come from making those tough choices.
Awww that little lamb is a fighter and Lucy loving on ya ❤️

She's got a great family and support. I'm glad the two women got this chance to bond and I'll be so happy for both of them when Sandi and Mark get to visit them in Australia.
What a sweet segue! from the suckling lamb to Sandi's GREATnephew! Awww! 💕💕
I am the lowest I have ever been in my life. The look on your face when you said "it can only get better, right?" was exactly how I feel. I am so sad. I have never been so sad in my whole life. I have been following you for a few years and I went through the fight for Jess's health and the loss of babies and flock members that were there for YEARS. The emotional trauma I am feeling right now is monstrous. I am lost... and my soul and my heart hurt so much. I saw on instagram things seemed to have gotten better since this video. Sorry to hear about your migraines. I suffer like you do but mine got a little better after menopause. Get someone to find your pressure points near your shoulder blades and rub. You will know they have the spot because it hurts like hell. Rub the spot as long as you can stand the pain because it does help in the long run. When it got so bad that I wanted to just die my doctor would give me the injection they give to people with schizophrenia and my headache would go in about 10 minutes. Stress is also a trigger for mine now but they are not as bad as my hormonal headaches.

I feel your Pain! I had 5-6 a week until this past year. I was so desperate as I was allergic to Imitrex, couldn’t have tramadol shots as frequently as I needed, no over the counter touched it. Went down to 4 a week when taking a biological prescribed by neurologist, but it wasn’t enough. So I was told to try an elimination diet. I am now a carnivore, only eating meat and meat byproducts such as cream and butter (dairy products). I now only have 1-2 a month! If e also lost 50 lbs and my lab work is better than it has been my entire adult life. I’m not saying it would help you, but you might try an elimination diet to see if you have a lot of food sensitivities like I do. Not trying to be pushy, just want you to heal and feel better.
