something bad happened. Vlog 239

Tuesday was rough.
But it was little acts of kindness from friends, neighbours and YOU (my online family) who pushed me through.
The rest of the week was more post wean sheep and lamb observations. They have transitioned well!
Lesson for the week...
Believe in yourself. Own your truth. Share your truth.
Because if you give that away, they can't really steal it.

I eat meat. I love Lamb. but i try to be Ethical with my meat Purchases. its not always possible, because of finances, but when i can, i get my meat from a farmer, or from someone who buys from a farmer who treats their animals well. Sandi is my hero. she's everything i want to see from someone who raises animals for consumption. They're not here for a long time, but they're definitly loved, well taken care of, and happy for the time that they are here. and that matters to me.

Some people vieuw either the keeping of the sheep inside all year and/or the killing animals for meat consumption as cruelty. At first I was a bit scetshy on the inside keeping, cus I'm not used to it, I've only seen sheep held inside in the winter for lambing and just cus to cold inside. But now iv'e watched over 300 of this i can say theese girls and lambs cant do any better. And I'm glad that someone who doesn't eat meat can see that theese animals are raised good and with care. But there still is some work to do on some places where animals go in and meat comes out... (Cant write the word in english)

Sandi, used to work with animal rescue. There are two types. One genuinely love and care for animals. The others are narcissists and activists who use animals to hate on people. The animals don't really matter. It's all about their ego or their hate. You can never make them happy. Even if you did whatever they ask. It's about hating, not animals. They're miserable enough to be two people. Don't be the second person. You and your husband feed thousands. You sustain life. That's real. Their opinion is just their opinion and they don't hold the high ground, the right side or the moral imperative. They're just letting the misery out. March on and be you.

Sandi, as of this writing, you have 131K subscribers. You've gotten 30K subscribers in 45 days. I'm a high school math teacher and have very little connection to raising sheep. But I'm utterly fascinated by your videos. They're REAL and they demonstrate something I feel is critical to anyone who does consume meat. If you eat meat, an animal has to die to provide it for you. What matters the most - to me - is that the animal is treated with dignity and care throughout its life. You give your animals a beautiful life, you value them as individuals. And yes, you send them off to be sold and likely consumed. As prey animals they are born with only one likely outcome - that they will be consumed. Few if any prey animals in the wild actually die of old age. At some point a carnivore will consume them. What you do is give them a beautiful safe place to be born, you give them a place to wean that is certainly more trouble than necessary but which is psychologically better for them. You know them and can see if and when there is a problem. It is the dignity and care they receive in life that matters, and you provide that for them. You've often mentioned that the bunk space determines the number of ewes you have, but I imagine that if you wished, you could cut down on their space and fit in another 150 ewes crammed into small spaces. Your caring concern is a gift that every ewe, ram, and lamb in your care receives without knowing any different. It is a truly priceless gift, and I'm pretty certain that your subscriber numbers continue to climb because you provide people with a viewpoint that no other person can provide as well as you do it. People will do what they wish, steal, lie, exaggerate, misrepresent. You can't control their actions, you can only control your own and be true to yourself. Your truth is beautiful, so thank you again for giving yourself to so many people.

To come in and attack her at this time, under the guise of "kindness" speaks volumes for how unkind that kind of thing is. But they don't see that. And they won't. On a previous video of yours, i made the comment how cute the lambs were running back and forth playing....one of your activists replied to my comment, saying what activists say and here was my reply...i hope it helps- Well my friend i am certainly NOT naive- i am not a city boy and live on a farm and work on 10,000 head cattle feedlot...my original statement about the cuteness of the lambs running all together holds true- despite your attempts otherwise...nobody can argue it wasnt 'cute'- well you tried but your argument is twisted and flawed... As far as whether they are outside or not, let me tell you a little eye-opening experience i had recently..i take care of my bosses 300 cows during calving time..last year i had to bottle feed 4 newborn calves- moms had died or not wanted them but they were under my care inside the calving barn in a small 10x12 pen...i loved these little calves and over the weeks watched them grow and get bigger, it was June and warm and i started to worry that they needed to get outside and 'enjoy the world'..so i devised this alley system so they could go out from their pen in the barn and into a large fenced off area with grass and a place to run around...the first time i let them out they were hesitant at first but sure enough they ran up and down this new area, running and bucking much the same as Sandi's sheep do in the video...i was proud of myself for meeting my expected needs of these little baby calves..they were out in this'play area' for maybe an hour that first day, smelling everything and checking everything out but soon they were right back inside the barn, back at home in their pen and 'home' that they had always known....i very soon became aware that these little calves felt more protected and safe INSIDE the barn, in a small pen than they did outside with a big area to roam..they spend 99% of their time inside the barn, inside their pen, where they felt safe and protected and where their water and food was.. it was a real eye-opener for me..i realized i was projecting my human needs on what i thought they would want wasnt really what they wanted....hmmmm Now if your argument is about the humane treatment of animals i am all for that...i have been an animal lover and protector my entire life and sometimes on the feedlot things i see i get conflicted by but my boss and coworkers- like Sandi are good genuine people who care about the animals well being because it is their business..whether the Ewes have twins, quads or more doesnt necessarily effect the well being of the lambs...they are cared for and bottle fed and weaned and grow just as 'normal' as ones kept with the Ewe... The bottom line to all this is there is a large human population to feed in this world- and our evolution has for whatever reason, required us to eat animals to further our own advancement and survival...keep in mind these lambs and Ewes wouldnt exist on this earth, and all the cattle i tend each day, would not even be on this earth without the need of humans craving for meat...so you have a choice of giving an animal spirit a chance on earth with a shortened life span, cramped spaces, but free from predators, all the food they need, medical attention and all care that is required OR the other option of not coming to earth at all..

Please don’t get confused. Animal “rights” activists don’t care about animals. They care about their FEELINGS about animals. As for the animals themselves, they want them to not exist. How can you care about something you don’t have experience with and have no interest in learning about?

  • @annieontheroad

Wow, I never thought about it like that. You definitely have a point! Animal activists really do care about their feelings about animals... not the animals. Sandi's sheep are well taken care of. We see it every video. Sure, I'd like to see them get some sunshine pasture time once in awhile, but being inside all the time definitely protects them from the coyotes. Sheep are like candy to predators. That is definitely a risk letting them out on pasture.

I fully agree with u, like there are activists that believe milking a cow is stealing the milk from a calf when that is not even true, farmers make sure they get the milk they need and get their colostrum for as long as they need. And yes there are bad farmers but what they have proven is that they clearly can't see the difference, they don't know how to tell a good farmer and a bad farmer apart, and turned themself into as good as an unreliable source. And no one whit that little knowledge should judge farmers, I bet they don't even look on if what they read is new or old news considering farmers have evolved and new rules have followed up in the years. Humans are omnivores true we can live on only plants or meat but only for a while, sooner or later ppl eating only meat will need the proteins from plants to stay healthy, and the same for ppl only eating plants they will need the proteins from meat. But if ppl don't want to eat meat at all and ignore those points so be it it's their body, so all up to them, but they should not force there believes on others, ppl are free to eat the food they want. I'm also kind of wondering if they have been considered the probability for the need for farmland increase for a full-on plant diet for everyone world vide since that would also include deforesting and chasing wild animals away from there land that again can lead to the extinction of some animal species if they have even been thinking that far. All in all, I fell insulted that those Activists call her a bad farmer when she is clearly not... She takes good care of all her sheep.

@@shadownight5294 a modern dairy cow produces more milk than 8!! Calves could drink in a day! Do you have any idea how painful a full udder is? Kick some guy in the norgs and watch him walk! Now double that(seeing as a dairy cow has 4 quarters that are that painfully swollen, not just 2!) When I wanted a milk cow for the house(we DO go through a lot of milk!) I deliberately went looking for our cow amongst discards 1st. Those who were headed for slaughter.. through no fault of their own, ours had had one teat stepped on and virtually severed by another cow's hoof, she was still young(only her 2nd lactation) and, frankly, she just begged for a home. We called her Dolly. Not because of her "assets", although she has that right too! But more her eyelashes and nature. She's just a doll in every way. And we never expected that particular quarter to function. We knew it would dry up and scar inside. So every other quarter would have to be monitored carefully as they'd all be prone to mastitis until that scarring sealed the injured quarter. Well. The injured portion of the teat fell off, but the interior of the the quarter never sealed nor degraded, and we weren't able to find the milk duct to punch out a new exit...so every time she calves, she goes through the pain of that quarter filling up and then gradually drying up when it's not drained... we've tried everything. Even our vet acknowledges I've got the most sensitive fingers so when anesthetizing *for that test and SOMEone had to feel around for a drainage tube, I still couldn't find one to punch through to*, we had to give it up as a lost cause. The kindest thing was to freeze her entire udder and inject that quarter with some sort of caustic solution(I didn't ask) to burn away the milk producing cells(internally) so she wouldn't have to go through that cycle year after year. Being a mother myself, I could empathize only too well. So she got frozen, and I left, after assuring myself she WAS well frozen, there was NO WAY I was leaving that to chance!

Seriously, focus on the people who are actually harming animals, not the ones making sure they are safe, given medical care, and given a healthier diet then I eat myself. The only thing I could wish for is for outside and pasture time for your sheep. But, watching your reaction when you saw the coyote next to your barn changed my mind. There is no doubt in my mind that you love your sheep and that you make your decisions based on what you see as best for them, in your particular situation. I sincerely wish that all commercial breeding and meat raising operations were as conscientious, loving and thorough as you. P.S. I actually wish you lived nearer to me, so that I could volunteer to help during your lambing times. That's how much I have been impressed by you. I have learned so much from you, as well.
