No hate towards you as a creator, your production quality is very good and I respect what you do, but I really need to get this off my chest. I hate this style of dress... It's clean, yet not minimalist, some vintage inspired garments but doesn't feel authentic, It rides all of the current trends: loafers, bostons, wider trousers, totes, new balances, faded baggy hoodies, muted colors and earth tones, the fucking above ear fisherman hat grrrraahh hahaah, etc. but without any recontextualization, originality or creative vision, just combines the items to form an uninspired, corporate feeling, often not cohesive, no personality gray amalgamation of fashion. Also really dislike the occasional super trendy item thrown in, that doesn't match the aesthetic of the outfit at all, like the checkered hat. I do not feel like i know anything about you from these outfits except that you watch Danial Simmons haha, but i do understand why its appealing to people, it's just that to me, it is the antethesis of what i love about fashion. I think it's ok as a starting point if you just wanna feel good in what you wear, but if you really wanna take fashion as a hobby further, I'd love to see a future evolution into something more personal and you, a point where people can recognize you just based on your styling choices, that's especially important as a creator/fashion influencer imo. I know I'm maybe being harsh, but I genuinely love fashion and really wanted share my opinion even though It's probably unwanted. It's not meant as a personal insult, even if you don't agree with me, that's honestly even better, I'd enjoy discussing it and exchanging opinions.

  • @ryanvvild

Hey mate! Genuinely, thank you for taking the time to comment on this. I’ll always appreciate some honest constructive criticism from someone with a different perspective who sounds like they genuinely love what they’re talking about. I totally understand that style is personal, and mine may not resonate with everyone, saying that though I assure you these items I’m wearing and suggesting in this video, are foundational to my style even if it seems very trend driven, corporate and inauthentic. One of my main things I look for in the clothes I buy is that degree of timelessness, but most importantly are well made so they can last anyone watching a long time if they decide to purchase. You will never catch me recommending specific trendy items, because I know how quick trends come and go especially nowadays. Admittedly yes the checkered beanie is a super trendy item, but it’s honestly the first very trendy item i’ve had in so long. The last super trendy thing I purchased was probably the Bostons, i’ve had those for like 2 years, i’ve worn them into the ground and again one of the things I love about them is that they're resoleable and will last me years to come. By dipping my toes in I do see it as an act of style refinement and I am constantly looking for a way to refine my personal style in a way that feels more authentic to me, as I too really believe that great personal style should be 100% authentic and is the epitome of what it means to be well dressed. Again I assure you all these items whether trendy or not are things i’ve spent a lot of time deliberating over, that I genuinely think are versatile staples for many types of people’s wardrobes out there, and i’m not just purchasing and highlighting these items for views or engagement. Again thank you for the comment, possibly the best comment I've received so far. I’d only encourage you to start creating your own content based around fashion on youtube, boy do we need more enthusiastic, and knowledgeable people in the youtube fashion space that genuinely care about fashion and aren’t just using it as a means to get a quick Shein or Temu cheque. I’d also love to hear your takes, and throw some thoughts and ideas I’ve been having recently about fashion and personal style in general, maybe over dm or something. If not tho, totally understand, cheers!

@@ryanvvild Absolutely lovely response tbh, again sorry if I phrased it a bit harshly. I definitely uderstand your mindset and support your choice to look for quality garments, though I think there a bunch of ways you could make your piece choices go from generic/trend driven to more personal. To give you an example, the Aime Leon Dore cap you style in a bunch of these outfits is very trendy as is the brand in general. (applies to Cole Buxton too) When you saw it and liked it, as opposed to just buying it, you could've gone and researched which caps inspired it, what type of cap construction it is and which cap constructions you like the most (amount of panels, brim shape, profile etc..) and based on that research either find a specific brand who's philosophy when it comes to manufacturing/desing/heritage etc.. speaks to you, or find one which represents a certain interest of yours, example: if you like a certain sport or sports team? find a hat which represents that. You like fishing? Look into fishing caps. Then you may come across cool alternatives to caps you didnt even previously consider, like sun caps for example, which are also super practical due the sun shield, or visor caps, which I think can be super cool. Also you could pick a cap to represent a personality trait of yours, or be somehow personal to you. I love clothes which illicite reactions from people, so I got a "world's best dad" trucker cap in my collection, which I really like, always starts funny conversations since I neither look old enough to be a dad nor I am one. This type of approach to finding garments can really make a world of difference. Suddenly instead of owning something purely because you like the aesthetic, you have something personal to you, which you can talk about in detail. It is a way to strengthen your bond to said piece of clothing and makes it truly yours. I think a massive help when it comes to exploring new fashion ideas and establishing a original fashion sense is thrifting, because it's cheap, accesible and makes you encounter completely new garments and pieces you'd never think of styling. For me, it has for example lead me to discover a love for vintage sports apperal, I have a bunch of vintage german soccer scarfs, colorful jerseys and team associated track suit jackets, etc... It's a gold mine for ideas and I say that as someone who lives in a post communist country which has greatly limited the amounts of branded and quality clothing items found in second hand stores, most of it is imported and the selection is puny in comparison to countries like Britain or the US. Also since a lot of the clothing is very cheap in price, it invites you to customize it to try out new fits and see if the work with your proportions. I crop most of my shirts and t-shirts and I have paint splattered a bunch of my pants, which I would've never had the balls to start doing it if it wasn't for the cheap thrifted clothing which I wasn't that scared of damaging, as opposed to brand new items. In general reasearch and experimentation is the key to everything. Do as much research as you can and then more, experiment with your piece selection, customize, try out a shit ton of stuff. I guarantee you on the way, you'll find styles and clothes you really like, which maybe aren't as popular or well known and eventually you'll be at a point where you are somewhat satisfied, I do not think there is a point where you'll ever be fully satisfied in the hobby haha, I've been at it for years and still feels like I've only begun, though I am becoming more happy with my current collection. Wish you a lovely eveneing!
