You take it to another level with how you put in all that extra time n hard work just just even get the smallest adjustment spot on. So glad I found your channel months n months ago

    I can now sort of envision the front end and in my opinion it will be awesome 👌. Adding the big Brembos would also add to the car's muscular feel, albeit costly. I also think that a lighter colour such as silver would benefit your lines, so will adding darker wheels.

    An idea just popped to my mind. Using an animation laser with custom grid pattern, one could "easily" copy a shape from a part to another side. Like say one has a concave surface and a grid pattern is projected to it. Then the grid is manipulated and shaped to show as being square and even on the given surface. Then the pattern is simply mirrored and projected to the other side. After sanding and shaping, the pattern will eventually get more square. But now that I think about it, it would be a million times easier (also to the eyes) to just do it with an old projector and some Photoshop etc. skills.

  • @Finnspin_unicycles

    @Finnspin_unicycles

    It's a clever idea, but if you go all the way with creating that custom grid, you are not so far of just 3D scanning and machining the molds..

  • @TofuAutoWorks

    @TofuAutoWorks

    9 ай бұрын

    This is actually close to the exact method I used to replicate my original Miata widebody. The process to mirror from one side to the other by hand is actually a lot simpler than people tend to think because you've already done the hard part of figuring out what all the lines and dimensions are, so if you have a clear grid and a set of contour gauges it's a straightforward albeit time consuming process. For this one though I wanted to both speed it up and also not bore everyone with the same approach so I'll be using a new method to replicate the other side.

    The thing is, almost all the steps I show in my videos are relatively straight forward. Just massively time consuming. I always say time is a substitute for experience and skill. It's entirely possible to get the same results as a pro if you have a good eye and take as long as it needs. That's why this build has almost been going for a whole year haha, maybe one day I'll have the skills and wont have to spend so much time.

    Not long to go now until it's ready for sealer for final mold making! Each episode I put up is between 1 - 2 weeks of work. This episode was closer to 3 weeks. So I'd say around 28 weeks, well over a thousand hours to get to this point. But a lot of that will be planning shots and setting up the camera, filming b roll, editting, capturing photos for Instagram etc... Actual hands on work is probably closer to 700 ~ 800 hours.

    Thanks man I really do appreciate it. So I will be putting bolt holes in but that's because designing it with bolt holes give the most options for other people. If you like exposed bolts - Great. If you want hidden hardware - Fill them in with glass or glass filler. If you want it moulded in - Attach however you like and blend it into the panel. If I left it as it currently is with no bolt holes then it would just reduce the amount of ways people could install it and I like to be able to give people the ability to personalize their own builds as much as possible. 👍

  • @TofuAutoWorks

    @TofuAutoWorks

    9 ай бұрын

    Over foam you want to start with a layer of fiberglass. The reason you want to do this is becuase when you're sanding the body filler, if you get down to the foam it will be incredibly thin and just resting your hand on it can dent / crack it. Having the fiberglass layer there means you get rid of that issue. It also means that if you sand through your bodyfiller then rather than hitting foam and having to grind it out and reapply more filler, you just see the fiberglass and stop sanding. For filler, there is no special type so just use whatever's available. I just what I can get from my local hardware store.
