Spotting a Senior Jeeper Down the Insane High Dive Obstacle - Behind the Rocks Trail - Moab, Utah

Camron and I ran Behind the Rocks a few years ago for the second time. I spotted Camron down High Dive perfectly. It was beautiful and full of grace. Striking. This is an optional obstacle that has a bypass. Most people go down High Dive and then climb Upchuck at the bottom. We were about to go on our way and then this old Jeeper came up to me. He was humble, kind and quiet. Almost timid but eager. He respectfully asked if I would please spot him down High Dive. My answer? It was HELL YES! I believe he was almost 80 years old. He said that he had ran this trail several times but never tried High Dive because he never had the confidence to give it a shot, either in his driving or the spotting. After seeing me spot Camron down he was ready to give it hell. He did a great job and I got him down High Dive while keeping the shiny side up. It wasn’t perfect but he made it. It turned out that he had both his front and rear lockers on and couldn’t turn all the way driver at the bottom and got a little tippy (no reason for lockers on something like this, but no worries) and I had him a wee bit too far up on that wall on the passenger side. I should have turned him HARD DRIVER just a little bit earlier and he would not have almost rolled over like this. We go by the slogan: IT AIN’T OVER TILL YOU ROLL IT OVER!!! I hope that I’m still wheeling when I am his age. Old Jeeper, it was an honor to spot you down High Dive and it made my day. I hope you are still out there tearing up the trails and I hope that we will cross paths again. - Geoff

The first time I ever went to Moab, we stumbled on that place. I remember standing at the top and looking down saying oh hell no! I walked down to the bottom and looked up and went oh hell no again. Nice job on the spot and Geoff awesome!

😭😭😭 Thanks John! The first time I stood at the top I said the same thing! And then Jimmy spotted me down perfectly. I do think I peed my pants a little bit. Not too much, just a little

Thanks for watching! As with most obstacles, High Dive looks way more intense in person! I’m so glad that I got to spot him down! - Geoff

Thanks Kathy! I wish someone would have filmed me spotting Camron down right before because it was perfect. I didn’t do a perfect not at the bottom but he didn’t roll so that’s always a good thing. 😂 - Geoff

I know man it was so close but it worked! Most people take a different line putting their passenger on that big drop but that is more tippy. It was so cool to spot that guy down. Thanks for watching 👍🏻 - Geoff

@@Colorado4x4 fantastic job. I go wheeling in your neck of the woods once a year with a couple buddies. Epic wheeling. What I would give to have that in my back yard(I live in Iowa we drive the 1500+ miles there). Every time I go it gets harder to leave. Coming back to Ouray this summer!

Thanks Adam. I know what you mean about having it in your backyard! I grew up in Tennessee and then moved out here in 2000. Work took us to Texas and we stayed a year and I quit my job and we moved back here. The San Juan’s are my favorite area in Colorado. Have you made a trip to Moab yet? If not then you need to!

@@Colorado4x4 Moab is on the list. We just always end up having too much fun in the Alpine loop down there. So much to do and see! Moab is only about 2 1/2 hours from Ouray where we stay normally. We just haven't done it yet!

I’m telling you man, you will love it! I know you know this but it’s just a little encouragement to drive a little further. Mild to wild out there. Hit Fins N Things and then Hell’s Revenge next. We usually go in the spring and fall. May and October are our favorite times.

Hey buddy. I subscribed to you a while ago and have been enjoying your EJS videos! We’re in Castle Rock which is south of Denver. That would be cool. Send me an email and maybe we can hit a trail this summer? I don’t have Instagram or Facebook. steinernm@gmail.com 🤘Geoff
