This game was so fun and addictive when it was out. My friend and I played constantly. I don't know how many matches I've played. I still kept my original copy. I couldn't wait for the next game especially since N64 got World Tour but unfortunately that was pretty much it when it came to a good wrestling game on Playstation. I got Nitro as soon as it came out and it only took me a few hours to figure out how limiting the game was. I didn't even care to play it anymore. Then Thunder came out and I skipped it because it was basically Nitro all over again. I had enough N64 came out with Revenge so I decided to get an N64 and I'm so glad I did becsuse Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy were epic!

I played this game constantly when I was young. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

The start of THQ's goodness. You can feel and see the beginnings. I loved this.

It makes me sad that this was the only good WCW game on the PlayStation, this game is so underrated!

@@ridanann WWF SmackDown 2! Know Your Role felt like a recycled WWF SmackDown! 1 with more characters, arenas and matches. Not to mention that it it released 8 months after the prequel. WWF SmackDown! Just Bring It blows WWF SmackDown 2! Know Your Role right out of the park. It's so much better and was on PS2.

Man, looking back, I think this might've been one of the first wrestling games I ever played. The nostalgia is just flooding back all at once.

This was one of the two games I purchased when I finally sold my Sega Genesis for a Playstation.... I think I remember playing this more than I actually remember being a teenager.

I played the shit out of this as a kid. It was by far the best wrestling game on the PS, until smack-down came out. I actually imported the original Japanese version, because it was the only AKI game I hadn't played.

The reason that there's only a few WCW wrestlers in the game, and some of them aren't even main eventers, is that the game was made as Virtual Pro-Wrestling in Japan for a Japanese audience as a co-operation between the major promotions that worked in Japan. WCW was only a small part of that roster, and the wrestlers chosen for the game were the ones that appealed to a Japanese audience. Blame WCW for taking the cheap route and just having the game rebadged as a WCW game.

Loved this game, I feel it was underrated.

I actually played this 1 a lot back in the day. In my opinion, this was the best it got for the ps1. Even though it wasn't great, the gameplay was better than the rest.

Sabu vs Bas Rutten, I would pay to see this in real life :D

I’ve always loved the main menus on these WCW games. Especially WCW/NWO Revenge. So many memories.

This game actually looks great. I really like the graphic style and models too.

This was my first game of the ps1/n64 generation. I got my ps1 and this game in early 97 right after this game came out and i loved it. It might not be the greatest looking back but it does have very intuitive controls and going from snes wrestling games to this was really awesome at the time.

I was 9 yrs old when this game came out. Me and my siblings use to laugh at this game graphics and though wcw nitro was the best. Man I regret that now.

WCW vs. The World rocks. Sure you can't go backstage but you can go outside the ring. One thing I really liked about WCW vs. The World is that Reversals are easy to do. I once the CPU reversed and than I reversed his move and than he reversed my move again.

I got it for Christmas in '97. It got played a lot.

My brother and me loved this game as kids, it was really enjoyable. It hadn't aged well and the sluggish movements definitely feel more noticeable as years passed and other games have came out.

I had this game for the PS1 & what was funny is when you nailed your opponent with a low blow it made a bell sound followed by the crowd booing.

This was the first wrestling game I ever owned. I'll never forget saving up my lunch money for like 2 months. Starving at lunch and eating whatever my friends didn't at school just so I could buy this game. Good memories!

The soundtrack is super Japanese culture. I love it.

How can you not like this game. This game has jushin liger, Gary Albright, the great muta, ultimo dragon, tiger mask and many more. This is one of the few mainstream American wrestling games have such a huge Japanese roster. This game is 100 times better than any wwe game up until no mercy.

This game blew my mind when it first came out. I absolutely loved it. Yeah, by today's standards it's weak, but back then it was the first 3D wrestling game I had ever seen. It was revolutionary. Man, I might have to go pick up a copy on ebay now.

My cousins let me borrow this game..I didn't think it was a bad game, a bit of a learning curve, I'd give it a 3 out of 5.

I recently got this game in a lot of 6 off eBay and love it plus not to mention I think what are the tracks is kind of almost at A-Kon Guile's theme from Street Fighter if you listen close enough

Most of the wrestlers you said were missing was unlockable.

Love Regal. In there minds, maybe he had more classics with Wild Pegasus and Black Tiger and the like. Not sure. I'm sure WCW had the final say on roster, and it was probably a quick turn around from VPW.

For its time this game was pretty good and cutting edge. I bought it for two reasons though. #1. WCW didn't release a lot of video games at the time. So for them to release a game at all during this time was good. #2. It was the first game to feature The Crow Sting on it. The roster represented on it from all over the wrestling world was great though. The one bad thing to this game was that there was no tag team mode on it which was stupid considering you had teams like The Steiner Bros. and The Hellraisers on it. And it definitely was a feature they could have put on here. Why it was left off, especially since tag team wrestling was/is so red hot in Japan, no one will ever know.

Whenever I see people talk about the AKI engine in the new AEW game they complain and hope it doesn't have "N64" graphics. If the game play is top notch, who cares what it looks like. The mechanics are key. And hell, they want it to look like current 2K games, when SVR 11 from ten years ago two gens ago had better, more accurate models. I dunno what parents teaching their kids but the video game IQ is lacking from what I see and what they think the measuring stick (good Kevin Nash phrase there) for what they think is quality is craaaazy. I'm glad you make vids like this. Hell AKI didn't even have their logo on most of the boxes.

my favorite wrestling game for all time.

this was my second ps1 game ever. i never looked into who the other wrestlers were, i mostly picked the wcw guys or the wrestlers with luchador masks on

I don’t understand why thq didn’t use the wcw vs the world engine for nitro and thunder with just improved graphics and gameplay of course but that engine they chose for nitro and thunder completely sucked balls

I remember when I first got this game, was pretty big into wrestling both major promotions...I saw Sting and thought how the hell did they get Phantasio from WWF into this game?

This is a must buy for me :)

No there's a version of pre-Big Poppa Pump in other games released later: Revenge on N64 (as alternate attire), and two of the three Legends of Wrestling games.

Is there a way to exit the ring? And can you throw your opponent out the ring besides getting a lucky hit? I remember as a kid purposely throwing my opponent out the ring, taunting, and repeating till I got my spirit up. Now i can’t figure out how to even get out the ring. I remember making fun of the ref’s voice cause the way said 13 when counting, and I remember being surprised the count went up to 20. But now I’m like locked in the ring.

I always thought it was kind of strange that in the select wrestler screen the portrait's of the WCW wrestlers looked cartoonish compared to the Japanese roster that looked CGI and have moving backgrounds.

Abadox NES Because the WCW wrestlers were not part of the original game. This was a japanese game, they added the WCW license for the US and the WCW wrestlers were added to the game.

ok review don't agree with most of the stuff you said, i find this game fun to play, i still have it today back in england. i like it awesome ps1 game period. it works for me.

Jamie Warrior Warlord McCallum Very good game and still one of the best roster in history. My favorite when I was a kid. Can you imagine, I went from 12 wrestlers on my snes to a 60 wrestlers roster! I played that game for hundreds of hours with my brother.

Graphics don't matter. Game play does. Pro wrestling for 8bit NES has great game play and is still one of the greatest wrestling games ever. Do a review on that game. Have not played WCW vs The World since the 90s but I have fond memories of the game.

I played the shit out of this one.. I legitimately had won each league with every single wrestler(they all had the big gold belt on them).. what's fucked up? There's a wrestler called Overdose, he's supposed to be Road Warrior Hawk.......... also, one on one vs a friend was pointless.. once you hit one move, your opponent was screwed and you pretty much would win without them mounting a comeback.. music in game kicked ass as well..also, DOA wrestlers are all ecw.. t

My first 3D wrestling game was "Power Move Pro Wrestling". My 2nd was WCW vs. The World. I honestly think I still prefer Power Move. And shame on WCW... renaming Road Warrior Hawk "Overdose"... It was in poor taste, to say the least.
