I remember when I was 7 playing this for the first time, my friend brought it over and the first match I was stone cold going against Kane, the match went on for like 20 minutes ha it was epic near falls and shit, defeated him with a 3rd stone cold stunner. Awesome memories!!!

THQ made the same games over and over with different logos. We fell for it and they were all awesome

No Mercy had that fucking save deletion bug so the Holy Trinity was WCW/NWO Revenge WCW World Tour and WrestleMania 2000.

I love this & No Mercy almost equally. The two WCW games that predated them are also amazing.

I also like WrestleMania 2000 and No Mercy almost the same. Great nostalgia with my best friend. I like WCW vs nWo World Tour and Revenge too. World Tour was my 2nd game for the N64.

Wrestlemainia 2000 and WCW/NWO Revenge are the 2 best wrestling games for N64 in my opinion.

Shadow Zone Productions I really liked both as well but no mercy was just a little bit cleaner

Aside WWF War Zone and ECW Hardcore Revolution, almost every wrestling games for the N64 were great solid wrestling title.

I love the intro to this game. Lots of iconic wrestling images in 64 bit glory

2k14, 2k18 and 2k19 are the only good ones.

Although No Mercy came out after this..this is still my all time favorite wrestling game. So much fun all these years later it's still just as badass as it was damn near 20 years ago. Lol

I’ll never forget it. When I returned to becoming a wrestling fan in 2018, that’s when I heard of the AKI games for the first time and I decided to give them a try. I bought this game and No Mercy before realizing it was the broken, glitchy version, and I had A LOT of fun with them. I know these were first, but me playing the Day of Reckoning games before hand, I was like “No Way!”, this is the same engine and I felt right at home. The graphics didn’t distract me too much as the gameplay was super good. That’s when I got my motto nowadays, “Gameplay over graphics”. Still have fun with them today. Great games for sure.

The game engine from DOR is very similar to these older AKI titles but they were actually from a diffeeent developer. I do like how they feel very close though.

People will never understand how hype it was to finally get titantron videos.

My all time favorite WWF game!!

You failed to mention the best part of the game -that you can hand hand pick every single strike, move, and taunt that your wrestler does. Nothing better than making your own themed wrestlers with ninja moves, for example, or just putting all the most badass looking moves you can find onto a created wrestler.

As a 7 year old when this came out, some of the best times of my life were playing this game.

No Mercy is still regarded as the best of these two titles, but I still prefer this one. It just hit at the right time and I remember the anticipation for it, talking with friends at school about it, and then the time I spent playing it, just so many memories.

I liked that that the rumble had the option to be able to choose pinfall as a way to eliminate other wrestlers

I wish the modern games till had the extensive ability to edit the appearance of the roster members.

Same, especially with wrestlers that are known to have an amazing wide variety of different attires like HBK.

Man this era was something special. Those N64 wrestling games were all I played for a while on the N64 I never liked the PS wrestling games in comparison. The SmackDown games had more features but it was super arcadey so I preferred the N64 games and playing the game was more fun when I could have classic matches with my favorite wrestlers

I played this game all the time. The true GOAT of wrestling games

The “button-ology” and move/character customization is my favorite, haven’t made a better wrestling game since!

Love this review! This game owned my soul upon release! I remember not going to high school for a month and just staying home and playing this. I edited every character to their exact week-to-week specifications. This was it for me. The animations, roster, belts, and of course gameplay cement this as the greatest WWE/WWF/THQ game ever released! Here Comes the Pain, and UFC 09 are second and thirds but nowhere close to this!

Another GREAT feature is the fact that whichever superstar is out first, you can see them outside the ring. It would take another 10 years before that was the norm

what a great game. we played this for hours... a game anyone could play and so many modes... feature packed to say the least.

It's sad this guy has to sit here and tell kids that not everything is HD and pristine graphics. This was back when everything had to be awesome or else you could go out of business

Feels like yesterday I was going on the Game Informer website to see the new character reveal each day. 21 years ago now...

I never owned Wrestlemania 2000 for Nintendo 64 but after watching this review I had to buy it just a couple of days ago online and a memory card to lol

Great retrospective quality.

This game is so iconic because it was so ahead of its time especially when it shows Kane and Triple H 😲 like you can see that image of cane in real life in this game in 2000 I mean hell they even got the gloves right on Kane and the beard on triple h 😱

This game was pure gold when it came out. We played it for hours and it never got old. Of course that was way back then.

The way you went crazy for the titantron videos was me when svr 2010 or 11 added the minitrons lol

Probably the best wrestling game I've ever played. Countless created wrestlers and made up stables.

I love how triple H’s name is just written as HHH lol the best thing about this game and it’s counterparts that the new wrestling games are missing are modes like road to wrestle mania where ur not just wrestling guy after guy but there’s also story beats and run ins and promos

Attitude had really good audio and full entrance themes so really this should have had it but it’s all good this game is awesome

My favorite wrestling game from then will always be WCW/nWo Revenge. This game is equally as good...but the other holds/held more nostalgia. Wrestlers are the difference basically..

Oh yeah! I was around back then and I was excited when I saw the promo for this, I was 9 years old in 99 and I had to get this game. None of the graphics bothered me, I was happy we got titantrons and managers out to the ring lol.

I'll never ever forget this game. I remember it was a gift and 3 days before xmas I opened it carefully and played it then rewrapped it. My wrapping skills were trash as I was 12 years old lol but it was worth every ass whipping I got from my parents haha

This is one of the games i played alot growing up

I was a big fan of the eliminations in the Royal Rumble mode. Using strong strikes and apron grapples felt more authentic than the 'mash the buttons' mini games that came in later wrestling games. It's a shame the AKI games were the only ones to use this system, as it could of been picked up and developed upon further down the line, in the SvR series for example. Also, the threat of possibly being eliminated at anytime with one well timed strong strike in the right position of the ring really added to the feel of the dangers of being in a Royal Rumble match, rather than just making sure you don't take too much damage so you can easily win a 'mash the buttons' scenario.

@nikateen you forgot to mention virtual pro wrestling 2. Wrestermania 2000 ripped it off from them.

I missed out on all these N64 games because I didn’t understand how to hold the controller.

Wwe 13 and 14 was really fun to play and the story mode were good play to

I loved this game to death, I played it with my brother and my friends so much. Whewww the memories. I remember when my mum bought it for me. Then we got No Mercy later and also loved that game as well.

The trons are almost like gifs. Hell I think gifs would've been an upgrade. Just put them in a tron border and don't full screen them. But man they were awesome back in the day. Gamecube had built in DiVx not sure if Yuke's took advantage or knew how. Nintendo is known for the third party cold shoulder.

Awesome review and awesome game only surpassed by VPW2 and No Mercy.

Dude the graphics were great at the time! I mean as good as any other N64 game and besides that it was able to handle 4 simultaneous players at once! I bought this when I was like 15, and f’n loved it!!

These amazing looking moves are what happens when you get good animators instead of just motion capping them They're all designed to look like they hurt without actually hurting anybody, so when you motion capture wrestling moves they're missing all impact

Great game, No Mercy was better in every way except for the occasional slowdown and the glitch that erased your save.

Revenge. 2000. No mercy are a hell of alot better then the other ones.

20 years and counting This game and No Mercy are still the undisputed champions!💯 This is coming from a guy who is a diehard SVR 2006 & 2007 fan (because of GM Mode😃) and a guy who spent countless hours on Here Comes The Pain. I went back to almost nightly before bed to play at least 2-3 matches on my N64! It's crazy, but the other current games just don't have it like that!💯 2k19 is dope and I play it a few times a week in some capacity but it doesn't have the it factor of No Mercy imo.

I used to be scared of undertaker and Kane on this game as a kid.

I've got this game running on my 64 right now. Fixin' to play it in a few. I lost my old cartridge (or someone stole it), so I had to buy a new one, and I have to start from scratch. But the first thing I did was fill up all the CAW slots! Right now, I'm gonna continue on my Road to Wrestlemania with Kane so I can unlock HBK! To this day, WM2000 has my favorite roster EVER. That's why I prefer it over "No Mercy"... also because I'm an entrance guy, and WM2000 has FULL entrances. The only game that comes close is WWE 2K14... which I haven't actually played yet. The only one that comes close that I actually own is SvR 2006. But I'll have 2K14 soon enough!

I still want to buy a Japanese n64 and Japanese to PS1 just to play the Virtual Pro Wrestling games. For example. WCW vs the World on PS1 had an exclusive version in Japan and so did World Tour. But World Tour in Japan had guys like Vader and Bam Bam Bigalow and Dr. D Steve Willams. Strange how USA got the same games but with different characters and stuff.

Uh Nikateen, where exactly in the instruction manual does it say that you can switch on pinfalls for the cage match?

Lol, I don't know what I was thinking, but you are correct. You can not enable pin in WM2000, or even No Mercy during a cage match. It is not possible. I wonder what game I was thinking about?

***** You were probably thinking about SmackDown: Shut Your Mouth or even SmackDown vs. Raw 2006 for the PS2, because those games allow you to win cage matches by pinfall.

AKI games still have the best wrestling animations and it was 17 years ago.

Kinda like wwf attitude , and ecw hardcore revolution, ecw just slapped their logo on the same game. Even the mic in hardcore revolution still has the wwf logo on it. that always surprised me that they missed that.

I've always wondered something. Playing this as a kid, I remember seeing an Inferno Match during the opening video. Can you actually do an Inferno Match in this game?? I never found out, since I never got too far into the game before selling my N64.

I thought the intro was Mambo no.5 at 1st😂
