    It seems that story and explanation a somewhat blatant way of preparing fans for an ending to the Kingkiller Chronicles that they may consider a twist ending and that they may not be entirely happy with. :P If you read subreddits and fan theories you may see I that a lot of fans have created an ending or endings in their head that they really want to see and have devoted themselves to to the point where that is the ending they are SURE will happen. However, after watching several interviews it seems like the ending Pat has in mind is not what people suspect or necessarily want. He often answers questions regarding theories with "that's what a lot of people think" or something along those lines. I predict that the ending will be something that upsets a good portion of the fanbase at first but, over time and over several readings, like he talks about, people will see that it is in-fact quite a brilliant ending from a critical story telling perspective. Personally, I am mentally preparing myself for an ending in which Kote doesn't turn back into Kvothe, and ending where he doesn't fix whatever he screwed up. and ending where he doesn't defeat the Chandrian, and ending where he either keeps on living a depressing life of a pathetic innkeeper, or rather, as the prologue AND epilogue of every book says....he just dies as Kote. "It is the patient, cut-flower sound of a man who is waiting to die." Many fans aren't prepared for the possibility that when Kvothe's story ends...the book ends.

    And all through the book they were saying once you know someone's Name you have power over them. Denna changes her name constantly, really. really think why's she so cautious about that. my theory is that her Patron, whoever he is knows her true name, Kvothe only knows part of it (like the unhappy boy who falls in love with the moon) However Denna's patron has more power over her than that.

I'm loving the opportunity to read more about this world but worry it won't be as great outside of our beloved shaper. thesecondislander I don't think she's just a female Kvothe, thought they are similar. Either way how telling could it be even if it was true. Kvothe would be, in my opinion, a hard person to appreciate if someone outside his head was telling the story. We don't know that much about Denna

    They are really different...

  • @thesecondislander

    @thesecondislander

    8 жыл бұрын

    Amelle Kyre That's what I'm saying. The difference between Kvothe and Denna is that we are following Kvothe from a first-person perspective, and therefore know his intentions and feelings. That's it. Everything else is just Rothfuss tricking us into making false assumptions, and this is exactly why he's such a good writer. If you sit down and try to see things from Denna's perspective you realize that she is just like him, except that she's a woman, and she never had the luck of being educated by an arcanist at an early age. She is doing her best to survive using the tools she has, which are very limited. This has left her very much untrusting of people who she know could hurt her. She's obviously pretty damaged, just like Kvothe. Despite all this she's all but outright told our hero that she trusts him and if he pushed a bit more she would gladly follow. Kvothe is so clouded by his false assumptions that he doesn't really see that, and so we as readers are tricked into thinking he's being reasonable about her when he clearly isn't. I encourage you to read the books again whilst questioning every fact and assumption Kvothe makes, and not being blinded by what your expectations tell you. It's been very interesting!

    He is smart, talented and young. Of course he is arrogant. Notice the difference betwixt he and Kote? Kote (older Kvothe) is humbled. What humbled him? I wanna find out. : D

    The arrogance that comes from being young, smart and powerful. Kote isn't so arrogant, and seeing his journey from Kvothe to Kote is fascinating. As a side not it's my 6th re-read and i've only just discovered that Kote means disaster is Siarru.

    He's fantastic- the books- eh. I tried to get on the hype train but it's just nowhere near what I seek in fantasy. Still, you can't help but admire Rothfuss' charm.

    Yes he's brilliant but his hostile disposition toward anyone wanting to get an update on book 3 really turns me off. One half wants to make the argument that it's his story and he can finish it or decide to never finish it if he wants and everyone complaining is being unrealistic and selfish. The other half (my half) invested money and time into this trilogy and feel cheated when they're unable to finish the story. All the while he releases other, far less interesting work, pursues tv deals, teases that he's working on it and does tons of blogs/vlogs where he just screws around. I'm sorry but when you connect with that many people and they invest their time and money in you, you have an obligation to finish and deliver the work. He claims the trilogy was all finished back when the first 2 were published. I'm just over the whole George rr Martin writing speed thing and keeping people on the hook. Rant over.

    Absolutely. I get frustrated when I hear people say "Pat doesn't owe you anything. GRRM doesn't owe you anything." That's completely wrong. They owe us EVERYTHING. The fancy cars, the nice houses, the fortune, the first class air travel, traveling all over the world. It was the fans that gave them their financial stability and happiness

    Perhaps you should consider the possibility that his refusal to 'wind things up' neatly isn't indicative of poor storytelling, but is actually an unusual and very rewarding way of telling a tale. I'm struck by a quote of his from The Wise Man's Fear- "It's the questions we can't answer that teach us the most. They teach us how to think. If you give a man an answer, all he gains is a little fact. But give him a question and he'll look for his own answers."

    Echoes in Eternity Dude worked on the story 14 years before he published Name of the Wind. The fact that he's taking long to finish the last one isn't strange at all.

    Pat,just tell us;" book is finished like 5 years ago, but i want money and publicity , i'm scared to lose that if i give u 3rd book because that is the reason why u watch me play games in first place. Also i need for you to byes my other books". don't lie to us, we are the fucking reason u are where u are dude,it's not cool. remember what your life look like before 1st book, and how long after u published 2nd one. l'm, (we) are not blind u know . I hate to compared people,but your constant talk about editing and re editing made me to. l want all of u to look Brandon Sanderson's books and tell me that he is bad writer because he don't need fucking decade to release book.
