I have a 6.0 with 217,000 miles on it. I just did the head gaskets and studs on it. When I took the heads off, I was amazed to see the cross hatching on The cylinder walls. The heads and valves were like brand new. These 6.0s are amazing engines once the known problems are addressed.

Yes and I did reuse the crank, 5 rods and pistons in the "new" motor. The heads were shot and needed new guides and all new valves. Yep I had an "ether-baby" motor with 6 cracked pistons, so it donated the block. We put 1800mi last week end on spot trailering 3 trucks to the shop and it got back in late last night from Jacksonville with an Excursion. So we must be doing something right.

The 6.4L is one of the most amazing engines I have ever worked with. But they run so much better once the tuning and DPF are changed. With the EGR electronically turned off the truck runs much cooler which will help it last longer. You are headed in the right direction with the Spartain system, just don't run it hard all the time.

Folks, I had the privilege of driving "Spot", after we went to pick up my friend's truck, after Bill " DealerProofed" it. Bill let me and my buddy take it for a spin. This truck is a beast, Literally. Nice clean shop with all kinds of information obtained from Bill and company. To go there is a rare opportunity, to get so much from your sutomotive mechanic. When it comes time to " Dealerproof" mine, I will be heading that way.

  • @powerstrokehelp

I agree. We ran some huge injectors that flowed like a garden hose, and lots of timing and a shot of NOS when the initial problem occurred. Then the truck ran with an odd vibration for about a year until she took a shit.

@jmanwild I have no experience with Dodge or Chevrolet. You are correct that the 6.0L is difficult for the average mechanic to diagnose. It is a cake walk compared to a 6.4 or 6.7. The old 7.3 is a hard to beat for longevity but emissions made it a dinosaur.

This truck is on its 2nd rear end. Pinion seal went bad in TX and they drove it back. Started howling about Meridian, MS. The gears were blue when we finally got it. Numerous transmissions, I personally killed 4 doing High Performance testing, but we learned how to build a better 4R100 transmission. This is only good for my customers. Lost count of the brakes and tires.
