    The cps is the bane of the 7.3. My 1997 truck ran great for 3 years when it was new. Then the sensor problems started. If I took it to a shop or worse yet, Ford, charges started at $300. All they did was throw parts at it. I eventually figured out I had a short in the wiring. At least one short. Before that I went thru CPS sensors like fuses. I think the pigtail was bad all along. I know tow truck drivers by their first name. A couple months ago I watched one of your videos where you recommended changing the engine wiring harness. So I bought one from Ford. It wasn't perfect. I had to reroute some of the loom to reach the sensors. The wiring is better protected in the new harness. But it made a huge difference. The truck runs like new. I have noticeably better power, better shifting. and easier starting. Thanks, that has to be the best advice I ever received on this truck. So far no codes. I have no idea what else wasn't working correctly. I found codes don't always tell the whole story. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a beer or a bottle of wine on me.

    Additional note, the cam sensor is the only sensor on the 7.3 that if it goes bad will leave you dead in the water. I carry a spare and wrench in my glove box.

By the way I too have had a huge disappointment with Mishimoto radiator, leaked strait out of the box and the drama of getting it here to Western Australia and they have wiped there hands of it. Stay safe and good wishes from 7.3 Down under.

    Thank you so much for your videos! They are truly lifesavers! Question on a part not listed in your video. 1876736C91 I've read on websites and heard from some that this is the new improved international CPS. Is that a replacement for 1876735C91 or is it a "improved" version? The Improved part number runs cheaper at an International Dealer, International is still making both numbers. Thank you in advance.

    Useful information, thanks for sharing it. For those of us who are pre OBDII, how do we check codes? I've heard before that it is a good idea to keep a spare CPS around just in case. Do they really fail that often?

  • @youknow9328

    @youknow9328

    Not all the time haha. But it’s a really cheap part that takes 5 mins to replace but if you don’t have a spare you can be stuck where it dies with little to no hope to get where you were going or you can carry a spare and be inconvenienced and find your way to your destination. It’s like having insurance may never need it often ..but when you do you do 🤣. I think mine averages out to 1 per 100k miles on my trucks.

  • @pilot3016
    @pilot3016 Жыл бұрын

    A few people here have figured it out. Carry a spare in the glove box. They aren't expensive. (also a wrench of which the proper size evades me. sorry). I have had one fail, and the 2001 F-350 "Dually" 7.3 Liter just flat out dies. NO stumble for me, just dies like John Wick shot it.

    Clint I am about to give up on my 7.3 bus.. is there a way I could send you and email to let you know what’s going on with it and see if you could give me some knowledge? Starts up and runs great, idles great, would drive until I tried to go over 40 mph and it bogged down and died on me. The guy who sold it to me said it was the icp, but I think he was lying about a bigger issue. I just pulled the turbo and cleaned it because it threw a code for the ebpv. I use to sell cars but now I’m confident I could be a diesel mechanic after all the research I’ve done the past year. Idk if the guy tried to do a ebpv sensor delete or what.. but that’s the only code I’m getting. Thanks in advanced!!!

    You have ghost codes in the pcm or missing, disconnected sensors, poor wire connections no matter what ford you have in there line up A dealer or repair center that has actual ford tech bidirectional scanner needs to reset the computer to clear what a po reader or uni scanner won't show for faults Then do the relearn for that model year since they differ by year and model
