Man, I’m so grateful somebody put this into words for me. You might notice I attempted to make a splatoon 3 channel because I ADORED this game series so much. Started with 2 but learned to 1 love as much as I love the sequel. To see splatoon 3 just have no appeal to me is something that actually depresses me. I was so hyped for the release and it was probably the most excited I have ever been for a game to release till this day, but then it dropped and I quit after 3 months. It was just SO underwhelming compared to splatoon 2. The maps were terrible, the game launched with at least two specials being unusable, you had an extremely limited amount of weapons to use for a sequel game ( 5 of which weren’t even worth touching, including the new classes ), the kit changes were terrible, and to top it all off the online was garbage. I could honestly go on for a solid 30 mins talking about how all the new mechanics that were teased fell flat. The poor release really just killed the game for me. I played for a bit after but I still wasn’t having nearly as much fun as with Splatoon 2’s launch. This game could have really, and might I add EASILY, have been the best game in the series, but the developers are really, really hindering it from becoming as good as it can be. Sadly even if they start heading toward a better update schedule and higher quality updates, I don’t think the games reputation would be fixed in time before Nintendo stops giving support ( probably late this year or early next year ). I really can’t express how saddened I am this game flopped for me and for many others. I love splatoon, it’s easily my favorite game franchise, and to see such a promising game fall so far away from its true potential genuinely HURTS me.

I think they know the sale numbers will be large because of the brand, but they are definitely doing the bare minimum with new modes and quality of life updates. Here’s hoping 4 or whatever is next will be a series changer for good.

To me; Splatoon 3 has the Splatoon name, but doesn't understand what makes the previous two so special and fun. I play S3 because I love the Splatoon series, NOT because I love S3.

@@dewroot5176 I really like 1 for being the original and what got me into the series in the first place, and it being a Wii U game that works well with the game pad is a plus. I love 2 because of the splatfests at the time, the Octo expansion DLC, and the overall vibe of the game in general

@@dewroot5176 While I didn't get to play S1 until after I got S2; S1 is the first one that introduce the Splatoon series to me and the Squid Sisters(Both Callie and Marie are my favorite Splatoon characters). I like S2 because of it's colors, design, Splatfests, both Hero Mode 2 and Octo Expansion, and in my opinion;S2 feels like a Splatoon video game.

I don't think it's THAT severe, but maybe it has to be someone or a few people making the calls and the rest just have to follow. Developers are at the mercy of a deadline too

I think splatoon shot itself in the foot. I personally think it will never be able to escape the “it’s the same as the old entry” saying. We will just have to wait and see and be happy with what we have

At least splatoon2 was able to stand out after the release of the Octo expansion DLC. Splatoon 3 feels like a combination of both splatoon2 and the original, with minor elements to help it stand out.

Splatoon 3 is a great game don't get me wrong, but the community is... very bad. I used to enjoy both splatoon 2 and 3, specially 3, but since i started to participate in the community i suddenly started disliking splatoon 3, i tought that it was the game's faults what suddenly made it bad for me, but then i realised it was this community, the amount of annoying sarcasm, exaggerations, toxicity, hate, etc. started to shift my perpective of the game, it made it look ''bad'' as an experience, even if it just gets better as a game every update. i have stepped away from this community but the feelings it has left to me are very sour. i really wish i could FORGET this community, so i can enjoy Splatoon 3 AGAIN.

Splatoon 3 was supposed to be an example of a cultural melting pot, different people coming together and celebrating our differences, yet people instead took our differences and divided us. I personally feel like the badge system and improved freshness on weapons keeps me hooked, but for others it just isn't enough and I get it. The seasonal updates have failed, and the previous update system in splat 1 and 2 was better.

I am on the same page as you, Knight. Especially with the catalog. It used to be so fun playing matches and getting to level 100 every single time but now it really does feel like a huge chore to do. I honestly wish there was a food that would increase it similarly to how there is a food more more gold or exp. That and customization. Lockers were a great start but it feels so limited because of how small it is and how big decor is. I honestly just wish we had an apartment to showcase our stuff because it feels like the lockers were just thrown in. Salmon Run, while it does add new bosses, the unfair rate for getting gold scales just feels impossible. I've been playing Splatoon 3 almost everyday for almost 2 years since its launch and I only have 22 golden scales. Table Turf is also not very fun and super repetitive and once you complete the single player campaign there really is nothing really to do apart from Splatfest and Big Run. Honestly, love Splatoon 3 cuz its the first game I've played but I genuinely wished Nintendo added more things to it. 10/10 vid, Knight:)

Maybe its because i dont play that regularly but i dont feel it that much. I think my trick to keep hooked is switching weapons, i play many days with only one weapon and when i feel bored or that i cant learn nothing new, i switch for another. At the moment, ive mained the edit, hydra, sploosh, squelchers, nzap, bloblober, undercover and right now im playing a lot inkbrush, is so fun to run arround. However I understand that very active players can get bored as many of the new things added are more like improving things rather than brand new features. At least ill still play it for a long time

Blocking doesn't stop you from getting matched with players. I heard if you report them though, that will actually stop matchmaking with them. All blocking does is stop friend requests. It's a massive nothingburger.

I think a big issue with this game is the fact that the 2 new weapons, that being the stringer and splatana classes, have barely had any attention at all. Ever since launch it's just been tri stringer and reef lux + splatana wiper and stamper. After that we just got 2nd kits for them. When you compare it to splat2, there are like 5 different dualies and 3 different brellas, each with 2nd kits, and those weapons were brand new! Perhaps the devs are gonna release new variants for sizzle season 2024 but i doubt it. Also wish big run happened once a month like splatfests do, it's by far the better limited timed event (though I may be biased for SR).

That’s good! I think the key is to take breaks from the game and come back when you wanna at least make some more progress or have a little fun. It’s if you’re playing all the time that you’re going to feel burnt out

It’s the matching up for me that boils my blood. I always, well, nearly always, get a charger player on my team and there’s very rarely a charger player on the other team. The chargers players use the most difficult weapon to master and they aren’t good at it

Tbh, Splatoon is Splatoon because it is different and that is where Nintendo is struggling. The Splatoon community is a strange one that has a lot of arguments which even Nintendo sees (proof is Splatfests) but is very thankful for the little updates we get since we only have 3 games to play.

I love the series as a whole, and to have 3 games in the span of less than 10 years is insane! I wanted to point out how the game helped me grow and meet new people in the community, even if I don’t have as much fun with it as I did on release

As someone who is fairly new to splatoon and started with splatoon 3 I feel like there are a few things that annoy me and even beyond that there feels to be a lack of content. I did love side order though. sometimes the game feels like a free game with all the grinding that is needed to get gear in the game. All in all i still have fun from time to time.

I’m glad you’re having fun with it at least! For newcomers, I always wondered if they would feel the same about some of the modes and things to do in the game, but as long as you enjoy some parts, it’s worth.

I think that the biggest thing holding Splatoon back right now is that it's one of Nintendo's most innovative franchises, but lacks innovation to the core formula between games, rather they refine stuff from previous games (like MPU becoming intensify action, S1 reference kits, S1 Kraken/Zooka special reworks, returning maps from S2 with very little changes, changes to CB and RM). This makes S3 more stale than S1/S2 for most players (not the hardcore players) because a lot of the fanbase have experienced all of the "new" features in S3 when playing S1/S2. By a lot of the fanbase, Splatoon 3 is defended quite heavily because of how much potential it had, but in the future I think opinions on it will be a lot more mixed, especially with the map design/latency of the game hindering enjoyment for many people.

Online shooter games are tough to try and crack, because essentially they are all the same game, but a few new features or removed content can impact how fans view that particular game. I just hope that whatever is next in the series will be different from what we’ve seen before

I personally feel like Splatoon 2 did a really good job at being a sequel and a good Splatoon game! Splatoon 3 feels okay, but honestly it’s a bit underwhelming compared to its predecessors. Don’t get me wrong, Splatoon 3 has a lot of good parts to it, but it definitely flopped when it came to the update cycle, Splatfest’s, and other aspects that make the game a downgrade from it’s predecessors in certain aspects.

I wonder what would’ve happened if they waited for 3 to come out on the new console? 2 did its job but it was so short lived in the lifespan of the switch. The first game released at least before the dark ages of the Wii U

As somone who has sunk nearly 5,000 hours into Splatoon 3, and over 1,000 in 2, I can say this game is better than 2 but the connection issues, lack of content and as a competitive player the meta hurts the game. If Nintendo were to fix even one of these things this game would for me be even better than it already is. I am on pure copium for a content extension at this point.. The thing I guess that keeps me playing more than anything is how this game changed my life. Amazing Video Knight, utterly amazing.

Im not gonna lie i just lost motivation to play this game since the first 4 splatfests, they kinda didnt do much with it imo

I think the main issue with splatoon is that they don’t ACT on the huge opportunity that is the fan base. I also think that’s Nintendo in generals big issue, they don’t quite listen to their audience. They technically don’t HAVE to but if they want to continue to thrive it’s in their best interest with games such as splatoon.

There’s no obligation to finish them but people still want to and end up getting burnt out because of it. And the gacha machine is just gonna make u lose all ur money like it would a gacha game. @@KnightSky are you serious? In the Fortnite and Overwatch battle passes there are skins and emotes. It’s the same in the catalog, except it gives more customization options. Is your complaint that they aren’t tiered as « rare » or « legendary » ? And if people WANT to complete the catalog and then burn out, that’s a player issue, not a game issue. You set your own goals. Lastly, the gatcha machine does take up a lot of money, but 1. Earning money in this game is easy with salmon run, food tickets 2. You can use conch shells before/during splatfests which are really easy to get 3. It’s a different grind for the same rewards, except not time limited. More options is always good

@@KnightSky Squid role jump has completely changed how i play splatoon. The music is way better and actually keeps me amped up unlike splatoon 2's osts. The whole lobby and matchmaking experience is way less tedious. The new hub area actually feels like a real place that the in-universe characters actually live in. Return of the Mammalians blows every other campaign mode we've ever had completely out of the water. Salmon Run is significantly more fun thanks to it being 24/7 as well as the egg throw mechanic, new salmonids, KING SALMONIDS, BIG RUN. Splatfests are longer now which makes them way less prone to getting missed by people like me who don't always have time to game. You can go to multiple hub areas. Big content updates are added a much more consistent rate than the others. That's just a few of the things. I really don't understand why there's even a debate here.......

I just play for big runs and splatfest I just dont have fun even when go back, its not bad but aldo I dont feel is great is just okay, mediocre and that for me is bad because is not bad to have fun moments or how random is of just remeber for what not doing. When i go and play splatoon 3 i just feel like"I think o should go play something better" I like so much splatoon but....i dont have fun playing the game :c

For me im not going to buy the next entry... The main weapons have issues, the special design and balance is a joke (not you inkjet my baby), the stages are an insulting mess, the main campaign was undercooked and rushed and its not only this game, splatoon 2 also had this issues and i thought they would learn in this entry but the issues just got worse. I hope one day modders made a proper splatoon 3

If 4 is drastically different than 3, I think I’d give it a chance. But who knows what else they could do to try and revamp the experience. It has to be something more than just badges or tags or locker stuff

Honestly, I haven't had connection issues so that COULD be on those players complaining since they don't have good internet or some other players dont have good internet (since I've been kicked for other players DC'ing) Anyway, my opinion is that honestly? Splatoon 2 should've been kicking still and maybe make another DLC that basically adds what 3 has but to splatoon 2. Just like they did with S3's dlc and added Inkopolis with Callie/Marie again. I find myself agreeing with the Splatfest thing. It's not fun anymore especially with tricolor battle. I remember I was on a winning team in half time and I found myself stripped of my ability to choose regular battles or tricolor and was forced into tricolor. I HATE those battles it seems so heavily against the winning team and even as one of the other 2 teams its sitll not fun because at that point its a free for all just like being the winning team. I want to like Splatoon 3, and have felt crazy feeling this way that I'm not liking the game but I'm glad I'm seeing others who feel the same... I am thinking of going back to Splatoon 2 since I don't even care about Splatfests anymore in 3. Splatoon 1 really captured the magic though and it's sad that it's dead besides pretendo, and 2 really kept it going but 3 just... fell off. It does depress me a bit, but at least I can play 2 all I want. Oh, ALSO, I just realized but another issue was that the Salmon Run doesn't let you join up with friends anymore like 2 did. Am I crazy or did I miss something?!

They had to have AT LEAST considered keeping 2 the only game on the switch and make dlc to extend the longevity of the series. Even if it was paid, I think it would still have been worth it to have new content every few months or so rather than just a 2/3 ish year limit and then end it all until the next game.

Like, sorry, only less than a year to enjoy the range of dlc and thats it? Nah. I think a 2nd dlc expansion maybe iwth a 3rd should be what they did for Splatoon 2 and have 3 for hte next system.

its funny how like people say this game was a step forward with new features. but thats just not even true. There's basically nothing in this game. There aren't any new weapons no new ideas or modes or any new and fun maps. The kit system is terrible and most shit is still the same from older games. The only thing they really did good for the game in 3 was that splatanas are cool and squid roll is cool. The cosmetics are shit there are new new abilities other than intensify. and just plainly customization is shit. This does not feel like a new era game at all. there's no way you should have players already looking forward towards the next game when this game is so fresh. None of this shit was handled well from day 1. It was definitely fun and I still enjoy playing but I did not think this game was going to be so shit 2 years into its lifespan. Updates can be shit all they want to but the fact that players have to wait 3 months for new weapons and shit balance patches doesn't help. and mind you the new weapons are usually unfun or just play bad with their new kits. And a lot of new weapon ideas are completely uninspired that goes hand in hand with specials and subs. since there hasn't been a new sub since marker and we're at the end of the games life.

this game rocks. i cherish the memories my friends and i have made and look forward to the good times we have every time we boot the game up. i don't need new content because even after hundreds of hours, there are still matches unplayed and problems to be solved. anything additional that is patched in is, of course appreciated, but i've got well over my 60$ worth from this game and still look forward to booting it up even if it makes my switch scream louder than a 2001 chevy silverado

@@KnightSky no, i played an embarrassing amount of splatoon 2. i may still prefer that game overall for sentimental reasons but the quality of life changes in 3 are very much appreciated. i probably spent more time watching the off the hook intro and sitting at the matchmaking screen than i did playing tears of the kingdom lol

Splat 3 was mostly just missed potential... Salmon run and the customization were the only things to really improve in this game. Just about everything else suffered, some greatly... overall I'd say Splatoon 3 is an aggressively mid game. Splatoon 1 is still the best game in the series.

I would agree, but 2 takes the cake for me solely because of the splatfests and Octo expansion

Splatoon as a whole is amazing or 3 is amazing? Also I liked side order too, but once you fully complete it it’s pretty much done, unless you’re a speedrunner
