No other song had made me cry like this one,, so sad , brutal and beautiful..and don’t worry girls,, most of people/reactors have crying or got emotional after listening/watching this masterpiece. More edit: Courtney wrote this song together with Dylan, the video director, in her case she couldn't say goodbye nor attend her grandmothers funeral. Dylan’s gran other is still alive but has been affected by dementia for some years now . Constance is her name and this song is dedicated to her.

This song sums up my feeling after losing 2 family members to dementia. I've been watching this song for almost 3 days now. This is why we wanted you both to see how beautiful and tragic this song is. December is a bad mouth for me and this band has made it a little more bearable. Peace ✌️ from Stan the Alaskan.

There's some context / corrected information in the comments: "Constance is my mom. Today - December 4th is her birthday - she is 88. She is the nurse in the photo. She is in a long term care home and I have not seen her since early March of this year due to COVID-19. Unfortunately the press release is incorrect. Courtney’s grandmother died in 2020 and she wrote the beautiful lyrics to honor her grandmother. Dylan’s grandmother is still living and has been suffering from dementia for several years. Dylan created the video imagery to honor his grandmother and her struggles at this time in her life. Mom goes by Connie to those that know her. Today her proper name of Constance is more meaningful. Dylan from Versa Films is my son. I am thankful to Courtney and Spiritbox for having the courage to tackle a subject like this. Courtney: I am sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I am touched by the comments from everyone that has been through this. As the son, I know how it affects me - everyday seeing your mother not remember you. Counting the times she remembers your name. As parents we don't always see or realize the impact these circumstance and this disease has on the grandchildren. Dylan, Courtney and all the comments show that the pain runs deep within the families. For me it is tough to watch this video. It is harder to live with or to have lived with this in real life. Words cannot begin to describe. Thank you to everyone for their comments as hard as they were to publicly display. It's amazing Dylan. It's amazing Courtney. It's amazing Spiritbox. Constance is proud. I am proud."

Thanks for posting this, I was aware of the general story, but somehow was wrong because I did not know that Constance was still alive. I thought Dylan and Courtney lost their grandmothers, so thanks for clearing this up. I also read, that Courtney could not attend her grandmothers funeral and sing (but not in this "ugly voice") like she would have wished. So this song has also the character of fulfilling a last wish. For sure, the background story explains, while music and video work so seamlessly together and give the impression of being one entity of art.

This song reminds me of my grandma and tho she doesnt have alzheimers or dementia she is 86 and she raised me. In 2020 she had a heart attack, stroke, and recently a tumor the size of a soft ball removed from her intestines. Through all of that she continues to hang on...I'm terrified of losing her. I cry and cry watching this. Ironic my birthday is December 4th like Constance. Thank you for the information. Beautiful tribute to their grandmas and mom.

Courtney lost her grandmother earlier this year and all her grandmother wanted was for Courtney to sing at her funeral. Because of Covid she couldn't even attend. This song is about her. My step dad has dementia and it's very bad. He often doesn't know if or when he has to go to the bathroom, doesn't remember where it is, and doesn't remember...how to go. My mom had knee replacemet surgery just before Covid shut everything down in the Spring, so I moved in to help her especially with him, and I'm still here because while she gets around just fine...there's so much with him where she needs assistance. I'm very grateful for a band to make a song like this because it is SO hard for this person you care about to be there...but not be there. Thanks, ladies, for the video. Spiritbox really did it this year. After their last 2 releases ("Holy Roller"), which were more on the heavy music and sarcastic topic reflection side, at least as I understood it, with this one, they went the exact opposite way and set the most contrary in the musical history of the band against it to year's end. Which is the absolute perfect time for a song like this, because people tend to reflect and introvert, concentrate on family and the past, and in this year many people lost grand elders, also because of Covid-19. Literally everyone can relate to the topic, be it as a fear for future, actual experiences with family members or memories. And dementia is so common nowadays, that people have a longer life due to medical care. I rarely know anyone who did not have a relative with dementia at some point, in my family I know of half a dozen instantly, who died while having it, including my father, my grandmother and aunts and uncles.

To me, the music is reflective of the woman’s battle with dementia/Alzheimer’s. It starts off with normal pacing. Then the chorus drops when she’s not lucid. The initial melody comes back but at what feels like double time to really push the song faster. I take this as being the progression of the illness is speeding up. Then the second chorus hits followed by that brutal breakdown. I think that is the illness at it’s worse as it finally claims her. The music suddenly drops out and all that’s left is the piano to signal the end of her suffering (death). I think the video also shows this when you see the elderly lady dressed in what she’d likely be buried in. I also think that she’s being reunited with her long dead husband as well. This is just my interpretation of the music and video.
