Spirit Of St. Louis - Rc 1/4 Scale

Ғылым және технология

Ryan NYP (New York Paris) Spirit of St.Louis
Spw. / Wingspan: 3.6 m
Maßstab / Scale: 1/4
Gewicht / Weight: 23.9 kg
Engine: Authentic Scale Radial. A reduction of the Pratt & Whitney R9. 200cc, 15 hp, weight 6.9 kg, 4 stroke, petrol engine.
www.pegasusengine.de/Pratt-Whi...
Unfortunately, it is the only motor in Europe. Only 16 pieces were built.
Landing gear is from Robart including all wing struts.
The model is based on a Ziroli plan. It was completely redesigned by Fun Modellbau. With scale support ribs in half-timbered construction. The front trunk is a wooden trestle. This is then covered with aluminum sheets. These are removable as in the original.
The cockpit is scale.
The entire kit is manufactured and distributed by www.fun-modellbau.de.
This model was drawn and built during the DMAX Duell 2015 in only 150 days by Christian Kamann and won the duel.
The generator on the rear of the fuselage generates electricity for the cockpit lighting. The periscopes are functional (it was the only view forward for the pilot)
.............
Motor: Authentic Scale Radial. Eine Verkleinerung des Pratt & Whitney R9. 200cc, 15 PS, Gewicht 6.9 kg , 4 Takt, Benziner.
www.pegasusengine.de/Pratt-Whi...

Awesome video and model, Mr. Charles Lindberg would be proud to see his airplane fly again. Lovin' it.

Phew - certainly tricky wind! Always thought that plane needed a bit of wing dihedral. Lovely build and super attention to detail - and the motor - well - just gorgeous. Pretty tricky conditions - handled well... big relief to see it down safe.

Very nice, the engine sounded fantastic and is a perfect match with the model! A hard plane to fly with a periscope! Nice flying and landing with the cross wind! Thank you for sharing Horst, an excellent job, thumbs up! Cheers!

Thank you my friend. Yes ... this engine is one of 16 units built and the only one running in Europe. Because of the high humidity, the engine was not running perfectly. Also the strong wind made the flying difficult. _I hope I can do a better video of this model once more with better weather._ *_Cheers !_*

What a BEAUTIFUL piece of history aviation! Beautiful detail to. 👍🏼 Great camera work as ALWAYS my friend! 😉👍🏼 It looks like he needs to lengthen the strut on the left side just a little bit. The wing looks pulled down a bit. 😬

The Spirit of St Louis was inherently unstable owing to it's disproportionately short fuselage and undersized tail surfaces.... do you find the model (which is beautful, by the way) unstable as well?

you know you don't have to get on the rudder in a wind, just let the plane drift with it, the plane doesn't know its windy so just let it fly. or is it out of trim?

trank you very much Guys for the nice coments😆.. IT was the 6th flight After construction and building it in only 150 days. IT was my dream for several years. All dimensions are scale. Also the flaps... this is why IT is a bid tricky to fly with cross winds😊... but i love it .. if you like more to see take a look at www.fun-modellbau.com. AT the bottom of the start page is an link to the discovery Chanel film. wich shows the building battel i won with IT last year.

Unfortunate revving of the engine like a motorcycle and poor directional control/yaw authority - perhaps a crosswind prevailed but even so. I would have preferred to see this scale model which was so carefully and meticulously detailed to replicate the real thing also flown like the real thing, there is way way too much power and the inputs are too strong. It never ceases to puzzle me as to why builders fly their masterpiece creations like 3D or sports planes! That said I was blown away by the detailing and finish on this gorgeous bird well done!

Why is the nost painted gold? Obviously, whoever built this either didn't understand or know that the current color of the nose cowling is due to aging of the coating that was applied to it by the Smithsonian years ago. The proper color of the nose is ALUMINUM in color, with a turned finished pattern. It always disappoints me to see models that show a gold-colored nose. So sad.

The pilot needs to get off the right rudder. It would fly much straighter then. And quit revving the engine. It's not a race car.
