From Obscurity to Immortality: The Charles Lindbergh Story

Ғылым және технология

On May 20-21, 1927, Charles Lindbergh became the first person to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean. He flew his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis, from Roosevelt Field in Long Island, New York, to Le Bourget Field in Paris, France. The flight lasted 33 hours and 30 minutes and covered a distance of approximately 3,600 miles. Lindbergh's historic flight made him an instant international celebrity and earned him the nickname Lucky Lindy.

I did this in MSFS back when the Spirit of St Louis was first added!! It was such a prideful moment reaching Paris after so long but it's so awesome to see someone else do it!

Fantastic video! So much information here about the navigation and maps. LIndberghs flight really was an amazing accomplishment back in 1927.

Brian, I watched this happen live with you. Thank you for this informational video. Believe it or not, you have inspired me to play more MSFS and explore aviation more. I’ll always pop on when I can during a live and fly with you 😁

Is there a 33hr flight simulation video anywhere for anyone who wants to sit through it themselves?

There are an infinite number of answers to your riddle. The main answer is the North Pole however if you’re at a point near the South Pole where your easterly walk takes you all the way around the earth so you end up back where you started, you could then walk 100 paces north from there. Additionally, you could start in a position where 100 paces south takes you to a point where your 100 paces east might take you around the earth several times just to end up in the same spot again. Let’s say there’s point A on the earth, you walk 100 paces south, you turn east and walk 100 paces but the circumference of the earth at that point is 25 paces. You walk around the earth (heading east) four times, and walk north again 100 paces and you end up back where you started.

At the 2:15 mark, the claim that the award is worth 422K in today's money is doubtful. A car today cost more than the average American yearly salary. A hundred years ago, a car cost 4 to 6 months salary. So back at the time, a win of 25K could allow one to purchase 50 cars. Doing the same calculation for the presumed value of the prize today today, would be worth ten cars. 25 times the average price for a new car (42K) puts it over a million. If one were to do the same comparison using new home prices as a base, the figure is even higher.

Figure he was cranked to the eyeballs on whatever version of speed they had in those days? Germany did it to their pilots in WW2

No, Lindbergh was a very straight arrow, sober man in his youth.
