By the looks i still think the german WWII subs still are the most iconic and probably the definition of a submarine.

My 2 favorite subs together in RC form! Heck yeah!!! I'm a proud American (despite our flaws), but I can fully recognize and appreciate the technology that other peoples can come up with. Respect. 🫡

That's the right way to see it! Technology as itself isn't bad or good... and most humans aren't either 😇 😉👍

I agree with most comments. Look like a fun sport for a retired old man. But the motor should be geared do to match the scale of the model. Would also be cool to put a fiber optic camera on the periscope. What also would be cool would be a submersible with cameras like the ones used in research exploration dives. That would be cool from a boat at the lake.

WOW. But I would have loved to the German U-boat slip a fish into the Russian nuclear sub. The detail on this model was AMAZING, especially the tiny parts of the deck gun. Tremendous attention to detail... the best.

Yes,... those were not long living ships..... but luckily in these models there is no crew aboard AND these models tend to live quite long.... hence noone is hunting them because they are not hunting others.. O:-) But still it´s quite a fascinating technic aboard... Best wishes, Holger

You might have been right, Matthew,.. wouldn't this be a Type VII Boat.. they have a top and a bottom conning tower hatch, so they could use it as a diver-exit. But anyway, this is a model,..the tower is completely flooded,... but if this happens in the real world, as you wrote,... phuuuu,...this is sad! Thanks for telling me,.... Best wishes, Holger

While building this stuff is an impressive feat in itself, it would be nice if the nuclear subs actually scaled down the speed of their ships with the scale of the model too, for greater immersion.

Hi Simonz, not a stupid question at all! Actually I already did this 😇👍. I even mounted them on different types of submarines... you can find them on our channel in the uploaded videos... nearly every second one with a sub included. 😊. Grüß dich Holger. Geiles Video. Aber soweit ich das weiß ist die Akula,auf deutsch Schwarzer Hai das Typhoon Boot. Die Jagd U Boote dieser Klasse zählen meines Wissens nach zur Alpha Klasse. Das deutsche Boot sieht aus wie ein VIIC/40. Alles in allem tolle Aufnahmen

Hihi.. das dachte ich auch zuerst... aber das Projekt 971 (welches dieses ist) führt laut Wikiedia tatsächlich die Nato Bezeichnung AKULA. Es gibt dort sogar für das verbesserte Modell den Code AKULA II. ABER,.. Du hast natürlich ebenfalls Recht :-). Die AKULA, war der interne Spitzname der Russen für Ihre TYPHOON Boote... Hey Ronny Mein Beileid erst vor drei Tagen hat ein kleiner Eisbrecher meine Nordic während eines Manövers gerammt und ein Loch in den Rumpf gefahren Hab sie drauf hin zu graupner in die Reparatur geschickt Hoffe mal das beste

33kts is not scale, though. I'm just going to guess the model is around 2/3 of a meter long. So, the model should only be able to go 0.59kts.

Wish VII U boat had the torpedo hatches (which could hoist torpedoes)..would have really made the difference in it making it look totally real..

Yep.. actually it does look like it,... but I can promise you, at the end the playback speed is at 100% with 50 fps. :-). But as we did slow down the whole first part of the clip, it looks like beeing too fast. Beautiful Russian sub. But I wouldn't want to be in that model if I were a gnome the way that one is cruising around like a torpedo. I'd be smashed dead against the inside walls like a bug against a windscreen. : o But fun to watch safely from the outside. ; ) German sub looks great. Now if the Germans had only build their subs on that scale (as well as their other war machines) and fought a mini war only with scale models, it would have been a whole lot less painful for everyone involved and way more fun... : D

I would think the military could seriously benefit with having small, long range RC submarines for espionage. The submarines would be as small as medium sized fish and therefor would get past sonar detection (if the composite was correct)

Should a submarine must have ECLB (Electronic Captain Log Book) or some like Black Box for Sub Vessel Standard ?

Why I dont hear sonar sound??? )))

Hihi... hi Fratricide,.. actually I can´t tell you much about this great submarine... also I did film it at different events for around 5 years now, I had noch chance to get more informations about it... but I hope the owner and Captain reads this, too, and might answer.... if not, I will ask him next event, meet him. I´m sorry,..... Just guessing, I would say, it´s around a 1:48 Scale model. The length might be around 1400 mm,... the displacement,.. phuuu... I would guess around 7-8 kilos... but take these with care... I did handle it two or three times, so I took what I thought I had in my hands.... not exact science O:-) Best wishes, Holger

I too can tell you allot about theses SSBN's...I am a retired Submariner, did my whole career on SSBN's (SSBN 629 (Blue Crew) trident I Back Fit boat prior to decom... then SSBN 729 (B), Trident I and SSBN 736 (B) Trident II. retired 1997 I was a former FTB (Fire Control Technician Ballistic missiles) and have no regrets it was an awesome time with awesome friends

Wow.. okay,.. than you are "vom Fach" as we would say in German. You do know much more than everyone here... I´ve never been near one.. also we did some Exit-Exercise on the German Class 205 Sub and later on some acustic measurements on the newer Class 212B Subs.... but as I´m a scientific diver this was a collaboration. So I´m not a member of the crew or something :-). But I´m totally with you.. the Crew really is a Work-Together-Live-Together-Group! Hihi.. I remember a talk with a Hovercraft-Pilot about the "Serpents Ship" West Verginia... wich should be your SSBN 736, if I´m right... :-) They had a Training Ride to get Personall on and off board with the LCACs... Hi Amélie,... sorry, there was no FPV Cam in one of those submarines... I do use them a lot,.. but no a single one in this clip. Actually all subwaterrecordings were plain old camerawork with me down under the surface :-). Sorry,... and best wishes! Holger

Are these models able to receive radio signals when below the depth of the antenna somehow, or will they follow their last command received through the antenna when the models were above a certain depth ? Or is it something else entirely ? Is it possible to recieve radio signals through the water when submerged below antenna depth ? I wonder if anyone has ever experimented with some sort of hydrophone inputs.

Hi Ron,... radio signals with enough strength like in the 27MHz or 40 MHz bandwith actually do reach down around 8 Meters wich is enough for these Submarinemodels. But still it depends on things like the salinity of the water,... how much debris is in there.... so if things a harsh, they might lose signal at half a meter already. That´s why they usually do build in a "failsafe" function with let´s the submarine surface when loosing it´s signal for too long. Also in scientific diving we actually do use hydrophone transmissions not only to ping devices on the seafloor but also to steer some slow working robots,... it´s still way too slow and unreliable to use it in such fast vessels like these submarines... :-) Best wishes, Holger

Subwaterfilm Wow, very interesting ! I kind of knew it might be possible, given the fact that modern US subs can receive messages through the ELF I think, and I think the same parameters apply, in that the the signal can be garbled for the same reasons you mentioned. Is that a type 7 U boat ? Whatever it is, it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL !! Subs are amazing. I must have seen "The Boat" at least a bzillion times, and I STILL never miss a chance to watch it. The Hunt For Red October, Crimson Tide, Run Silent, Run Deep, Grey Lady Down, ALL great movies.

Hi Ron,.. yes,.. thats a 7c U-Boat. And,.. yep,...I´m totally with you ! I can´t count how often I had seen "das Boot" and even more often the Making of. And all the other really great movies including submarines! There´s a new series with a 7c coming... I´m already looking forward to it.... Best wishes, Holger
