I'm trying to figure out pre-ganglion and post-ganglion when it comes to Horner's Syndrome (which I was recently diagnosed with). The affected nerves exit the spine around C8-T2 and then go through multiple ganglia. I read that the nerves exit around C8-T2 and then go through the inferior ganglion, middle ganglion, up to the superior ganglion. If they pass through 3 ganglions, why does it not become "post-ganglionic Horner's Syndrome" until it reaches the superior ganglion? Why would it not be considered post-ganglionic after passing through the middle ganglion in the neck?

hey it is me from 4months later and no they carry both somatic and visceral afferent nerve fibers which synapse in the spinal ganglion

Thanks for your reply Sam.....I've been in chronic pain since 1999.. I had the surgery in Spain 4yrs later...the system here in Britain isn't very good to be honest...I'm on my 6th surgery and 9th doctor...they're at a loss to why I'm in so much pain..that's why I'm looking for any help to understand how the nerves or scare tissue could be contributing to my pain..well hope you can continue to make more information videos in the future as I enjoy your explaination' and style...:)

Hi Sam...had a fusion between L4 -L5 and after 13yrs I decided to have the hardware removed...6 weeks later I'm in the same pain...above he fused area and around the surgery site...can you give me an idea if it could be nerve pain causing the never ending pain..I've done yoga and stretches now every day for years but no help..can the nerves cause pain that can never be repaired ? Please answer.ive watched a lot of videos and most aren't like yours..meaning very personal and informative ...regards wayne

+Wayne Bailey Hi Wayne. It's difficult for me to comment and your own doctors will know you best. If the spinal nerve is being compressed near the vertebrae you might expect pain to be also perceived as being in sites innervated by that nerve. You might also expect weakness of muscles innervated by branches of that spinal nerve, and possibly altered sensations of regions innervated by that nerve (e.g. pins and needles, or burning sensations). Sciatica, for example, can be cause by compression of a spinal nerve root of the sciatic nerve by a prolapsed intervertebral disc, typically causing lower back pain and lower limb pain.

hey wayne. I have been fixing my back myself for quite a while. A lot of pain comes from slipped discs due to slack muscles and bad posture. It is important to keep muscle tone, however when i have slipped something i will lie on the floor and gently swivel and manipulate the painful area(remembering to completely relax the area). Often there is a slight movement and the pain will relieve instantly. I will not let a chiro or doctor near my back, that is for sure. When you understand your body you can fix most ailments.

Can facet joints and nerves be healed

Where are the meninges with respect to these nerves? What I mean is where exactly is the transition zone between CNS & PNS? Are the DRG inside the meninges or outside them? When the rootlets enter/exit the spinal cord, is that where Schwann cells replace Oligodendrocytes to myelinate the axons?

@@rikybologna3579 So far, I figure the Dorsal Root Ganglia must be outside the meninges, because they're ganglia, which by definition means they're in the peripheral nervous system, therefore outside the meninges of the central nervous system. I've just never been sure from various drawings where they actually were in relation to the meningeal coverings of the spinal cord.

@@dannichols6261 Hi Dan, I am not a Medicine student at all, I am just a gymnast who broken his L1 vertebral body upper part 2 month ago during training and who developed some actually uknown nerve compressions (I was been hurted between C6-C7, even L1 broken only"), so I am spending my endless bed time trying to understand this huge topic the best as possible due to know what happened to me exactly and what I should do in order to achieve my previous injury condition. Unfortunately, nobody told me about kyphoplasty surgery procedure when I was at the hospital just after the injury, thus I became aware about that 12 days later only, when this surgery type was just too dangerous for young people (no more than one week usually). So, now I am waiting my natural calcification (it is just 50 days) even I should deal with 13° kyphisos of my L1, but I know that if I will solve my various neurological symptoms I will can train a lot again gaining my previous good muscular back that will comply my L1 damage (posture problems will start if one day I will stop to train, but this may happen because unfixable injury reasons only, not for my voluntary at all, and I hope at that moment, if it should happen, somebody of you will just had found a new surgery solution). I wish to you the best medicine career and if one day you will know about new surgery procedure due to remodel a just calcified vertebral body please reply this message or contact me on Instragram (same nickname). Further, if you know any trick due to recover nerves fast and/or understand what ones/where are compressed tell me about it. Greetings from Italy mate.

these videos really help me with online anatomy classes because due to covid I'm having online classes and never getting to see these models in real life makes it way harder to learn. :(
