Ohh I think for anyone following the trailers and promotion for the movie before release, we fully expected most if not all of the villains that appeared - so with that there was also a high likelihood that we'd see Andrew and Tobey return. I'm glad that wasn't revealed until the movie was released. It was so amazing (heh) to see them all together! I just feel my heartstrings pulled whenever Andrew Peter talks about the loss of Gwen and then the scene where he saves MJ. I was always a fan of Toby so when they recasted him in different ones it took a while for me to be okay with liking them. The writers of this movie really should be commended for the crazy work they did in this. They so clearly rewatched every single one of the earlier films and took character notes. Not only is the plot solid, the character consistency is just unreal. It would have been so easy for them to phone it in (which I've seen other movies/shows do in similar circumstances). But, the filmmakers really treated the characters of these other Spider-Man films with as much respect as if they were part of the main MCU canon. To the point of, basically, finishing off the character arc of Andrew Garfield's Peter. Just amazing they made the movie this genuinely good.

  • @CaptainAmercia

So don't worry about the original movies timeline they still play out the same. The actions of Peter in this film creates a few new timelines, ones where these villains return cured. So Green Goblin returns to his universe sometime after the Thanksgiving Dinner in Spider-Man 1. He and Peter never have that big fight at the end of Spider-Man 1 and Norman gets to live on into the events of an alternate Spider-Man 2 where maybe Nolan helps Doctor Octavius with his machine project, maybe it's successful in this universe. And then we'll have an alternate Spiderman 3 where Harry never turns against Peter but I imagine Sandman and Venom still show up. This is just one example Then we have a timeline where Doc Ock goes back to his universe cured and if you look closely enough he still has the Stark reactor. With insight on his death and days to think about how to stop his machine this Dock Ock could find a way to both survive and stop the machine. He could then go on to develop a machine based on Tony's Stark Reactor creating an alternate ending to Spider-Man 2 going into Spider-Man 3 where Doc Ock is still alive but Norman is of course still dead as this timeline played out the same until the very end of Spider-Man 2. This two are the most interesting ones but pretty much there's five new timelines all together. So yeah all the movies play out the same way just like how the events of Endgame changed a bunch of things like Loki disappearing. All this did was create a timeline where Loki disappeared at the end of Avengers and then the TVA came in and "fixed" everything it seems. This film could've happened because of the events of Loki as the multiverse was opened by the death of He Who Remains. I 100% believe that the two Spider-Men we see are from the original timelines featured in the films. And of course Eddie and Venom are from the Venom movies so they'll go back to that timeline. It's only the villains who go back to alternate timelines as they're "fixes" alternate the future and thus the universe corrects this by creating new timelines. Timeline A - Green Goblin is cured in Spider-Man 1 and doesn't die by his own glider. Timeline B - Doc Ock is cured at the end of Spider-Man 2, Possibly sick's his machine but survives. Timeline C - Lizard is cured sometime after he finds Peter Parkers Camera in the sewers, Gwen's dad never dies. Timeline D - Electro is cured at the end of Amazing Spider-Man 2 and maybe survives. Timeline E - Sandman is cured sometime after his chat with Peter Parker at the end of Spider-Man 3.

Okay so, I could see Goblin, Sandman,Lizard and obviouslvy Venom living. however, Ock and Electro i think are as good as dead. According to Ock himself, he had been taken from the moment he had grabbed Peter 2 by the throat, which happened in the final battle of SM2 and took place only seconds before Ock revealed that his reactor had become self-sustaining. So there's a chance,be it very slim that he survived, but it's still very possible the ended up having to drown the reactor anyways. as for Electro.... he says that he was taken miliseconds before his death in ASM2...so chances are again very slim that he survived considering that a now human Max wouldve returned to a moment in time wherein he was being pumped with enough electricity to blackout NYC... so yeah he's probably dead. atleast Otto might have survived though!

Lots to cover here, so yeah. the robber that Peter stops when the guy throws the paint on him is actually played by Tom's real life brother Harry, however that scene was not in the actual movie but only in the extended version. Some of the scenes from the school are also only in the extended edition. As far as what we knew going into the movie, we knew from casting announcements and trailers and such that all 5 of the villains would be returning. There had always been talk of both Tobey and Andrew being in the movie but nothing was made concrete until the movie actually released, there was a script leak beforehand that had mentioned them returning but it was still not fully accepted as real until the movies release. Andrew even played into the uncertainty in interviews, any time he was asked if he was in the movie he would always deny it, especially with the famous "I'm not the Werewolf" answer in one interview. That script leak also mentioned Daredevils appearance in the film. So basically we had been given all the pieces of who was in the film from the beginning, but most weren't believed at the time. It's a bit of a subtle thing, but in the scene of Peter meeting MJ at the end of the movie after everyone's memory was erased, MJ is still wearing the Black Dahlia necklace that Peter gave her in Far From Home. Doc Ock's arms in this film are actually full CG. Alfred Molina was very happy about that going into this movie because previously in Spider-Man 2 his arms were fully practical, so he had to be strapped into them and 4 guys in green suits had to move the arms around and stuff. With the arms being fully CG they could do much more with them in this movie than they could if they stuck with the practical arms. Sandman was in his sand form for most of the movie because Thomas Haden Church was busy with other things and couldn't make it in to film. the talk of a black Spider-Man with Andrew and Max not only was a reference to Max's opinions, but it also references Miles Morales, a black Spider-Man from the comics and star of the Into the Spiderverse and Across the Spiderverse movies. Speaking of, this movie essentially acts as proof of concept for a live-action Spiderverse movie and a live-action Sinister Six movie, both things Sony has been actively trying to get going forever and seems to be getting close to actually realizing. Both Tobey and Andrews Spider-Man got redemption in this movie for the death in their respective series that caused them the most issues. Andrew redeemed Gwen's death by rescuing MJ and Tobey redeemed Norman's death by preventing Tom from stabbing Norman with his own glider. After this movie Andrew has become much more loved as Spider-Man than he was previously. So much so that people continue to ask for Andrew to get a 3rd movie in his series and they want him to fight Venom to fulfill the line in this movie of him wanting to fight an alien. Many even suggest that he may be the Spider-Man that ends up fighting Tom Hardy's Venom in that franchise. Many are suggesting that we may see Tobey and Andrew interacting with Tom again, likely in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars releasing in 2026. I believe both Tobey and Andrew have said that they would love to return again, so that lends credence to that.

I saw someone recently describe this movie as 'just fan service' and I can understand that point of view but for me, it's so much more than that. They did an amazing job of creating a storyline that makes sense of why they're all there together, and the dynamic between the multiple Spider-Men and also between the villains was done really well. And it feels like it belongs as part of the MCU too, stylistically it's not confused by the other characters being there. It was very possible to make this movie and it be 'just fan service' and complete garbage but it feels like they made it with love, all the old cast were fully invested and the result is a really excellent movie.

It rewards longtime Spidey-fans for a nineteen-year journey they didn't even realise they were on, the acting is phenomenal from the entire cast (Willem Dafoe crushes it!), and the story is one of the most punishingly brutal reminders that with great power comes great responsibility. It's the difference between introducing a bunch of new villains in the same movie, vs one where the villains have appeared before. It's a shame so many comic book movies end with the villain dying. I always wonder what their revenge plot might have been a few years down the line. Raimi wanted to do Sandman, Harry Osborn Goblin and The Lizard in 3 apparently, which is why Curt Connors is introduced in Spider-man 2. Telling the story of two villains is so much easier than 3. It makes a huge difference, as is obvious to everyone but Sony apparently. They wanted to rush into a Sinister Six movie and destroyed TASM2 in the process. Such a shame because Garfield really is a phenomenal actor.

A full Six would have been too much, and it was right for them to not push it for the sake of the fanboys. Willem Dafoe is so effing good in his reprisal of Green Goblin. And obviously having Tobey back and Andrew getting his Gwen second chance. You can argue that this film depends on fan service but, to me, even so it does it well enough that it makes it relevant and pertinent. Almost every character called back really offers something to the overall plot. And although May didn't get, imho, nearly enough screen time I think her obligatory death was both surprising and hits harder since there isn't an Uncle Ben for t he MCU Peter to have in his life, like the other Peter had his Mays after their Bens were killed. Aside from his friends, which he also 'loses' he's truly alone at the end. Also, people like me missed that MJ was still wearing the broken necklace that Peter gave her which implies...something.

For me this movie was so satisfying. All the Spider-Men having someone to talk to who understands what they've been through. But the thing for me was Doctor Octopus. He was the first Super Villain I was introduced to when I was a very young child seeing him on the old Incredible Hulk cartoon from the early 80s in an episode called: "Tomb of the unknown Hulk". Then of course he was in the 90s Spiderman animated series. Then where he became iconic in Spiderman 2! Seeing him here (that bridge fight is by far my all time favorite comic book movie fight scene ever) brought me pure joy, but seeing his character FINALLY come full circle and be cured was everything I wanted to see. Then that scene at the end where he and Toby Spiderman reunite. Knowing that Otto was his hero, and in Spiderman's eyes been dead for decades, having the ONLY thing Otto was concerned with being wanting to know how Peter was frigging broke me. Aunt May didn't do it. The Spidermen sharing their pain didn't do it. Andrew saving MJ didn't do it. That did it! Who wouldn't want someone they loved or greatly admired come back for one day just to ask you how you've been?

I can't begin to tell you how much I loved your reaction to this... because you always seem to latch on to the things I latch on to with these titles. Honestly... I think one of the scenes that got me the most emotional of the many scenes that got me emotional was Matt's reaction to actually saving MJ. I also felt so sad for Happy because not only has he lost Tony, but he lost Aunt May and now he doesn't even have Peter to give him a greater purpose... especially when you think back to that scene when he saw Peter building stuff using Tony's equipment and totally getting why Tony had left it to Peter. Man... so much about this movie that I loved.

16:02 Fun fact: Back in Tobey's Spiderman 2, Doc Ock explains that his arms are made of prototype nano-technology. In the first film, when Norman first met Tobey Peter, Peter remarks that he read Norman's research into nanotech to which he replied, "You understood it?" and Peter replied yes. In Tobey's world, nanotech is still being researched and looked into. Doc Ock having prototype nanotech arms was why it absorbed the Stark nano-suit. Fortunately, in Tom's universe, Tony Stark's tech is significantly advanced which led to Tom's Peter hijacking and taking over Doc Ock's arms via remote control.

i'm in the uk, so audience reactions are generally frowned upon in terms of uk cinema etiquette, but infinity war/endgame and this got def got the most reactions - ppl audibly gasped and got excited when andrew and tobey appeared (to which i vividly remember some audience members shushing and telling ppl to be quiet). not many reacted for matt, unfortunately, but i was silently kicking my feet and giggling - i'm pretty sure i specifically started watching daredevil because i'd heard the rumours he might be in nwh. may's death had me sobbing, and i didn't think i particularly cared much about may till that point - peter's reaction broke me, kudos to tom and marisa bc the acting in that scene was incredible and really sold the moment for me.

100% agree with the Andrew Garfield take. I genuinely loved his Peter and his Spider-Man even before this movie. I hate that those movies struggled with the writing issues they had because he and Emma Stone were fantastic. This movie is great. Also love that this is basically Tom Holland's Spider-Man's starting point that we always see Spider-Man in... broke, small apartment, little support, no Avengers, etc. It's great.
