    If i say i have 0.5sp,-1.5cy 180axis It gives me 1.25sp..right? But is it means -1 cy is eq to -.5 cy?

    In railway medical, if power of lenses not exceed to 4D, candidate is eligible. My right eye has a power of -3.50 spherical, -. 75 cylindrical 20 degree axis. Is it less than 4D?

    Hello. First of all, thank you so much for your wonderful explanations! I have a question about my prescription (which has sent me down an educational rabbit hole). My glasses prescription is +0.25 / -0.50 / 010 (right eye), and then the same, but with an axis of 005 in the left eye. I've been trying contacts to no avail, so it started me on a mission to learn as much as I can. With my glasses, the slight astigmatism correction makes a very noticeable difference, but we can't get the contacts right. Currently, I'm trying PWR 0.00, -0.75, axis 180 (OS) and 10 (OD). I feel as though the astigmatism correction might be too strong with these lenses. If I understand correctly, doing the spherical equivalent would negate everything as the SPH value would be 0. However, would it be possible to ignore the +0.25 SPH correction, and only correct the astigmatism using the spherical equivalent and have a sphere value of -0.25? My previous eye doctor said I wouldn't be able to get contacts, and I think now I understand why. I tried contacts correcting just the farsightedness, and it made my overall vision worse, so I'm hoping that maybe I can correct just the astigmatism. Thank you so much!

    Welcome for your compliment dear. And as your question is concerned..well I suggest that don't go for contact lenses with the prescription you have. But as per my practice, I suggest you to use only -0.50 cylinder in both eyes with corrected axis that will give you good vision.

    @@optometrywithkhurram6867 Thank you so much for your reply. Because my astigmatism is so slight, I'm definitely coming to understand that glasses are going to give me the clearest option. But in your opinion, do you think if I only focused on the astigmatism and got -0.25 SPH power lenses (using the spherical equivalent, and just ignoring my current SPH power since it's also very slight) that that would at least make my astigmatism better than if I were wearing nothing at all? I tried correcting only the farsightedness, but that didn't help. But in the past, correcting only my astigmatism was still at least an improvement over nothing at all. I'm just looking to have contacts for situations where it would just be more convenient to not have anything on my face, but still primarily use my glasses. Thank you so much again!

    @@AB-uh3cf if you wear just 0.25 spherical it would be useless. And it will be difficult to handle. If you really want to wear contacts then there is only option for you to wear -0.50 cylinder with your corrected axis.

    Yes...spherical equivalent will work when cyl power would be 1.00 plus or minus.

    Personally, I prefer using Spherical lenses, to establish my own refractive state. The DMV does not require that cylinder be measured.

    Thankyou..💕 No.. actually JCC and Stenopic slit both are diffrent accessories and have different principles. There is no any spherical equivalent while using stenopic slit.

    Dear sir for TOTAL POWER CALCULATION in terms of diaptor spherical equalent is used ?for example SPH -2.50 and CYL -1.50 /10 what will be the total eye power in terms of diaptor????

    The spherical equivalent of this power would be -3.25 spherical .. But Spehrical equivalent only be used when cylinder is not adjusted..as I mentioned in lecture.

    Hello sir..just want to ask,..after all the computation you make getting the spherical equivalent , do you need to convert it to contact lens using the contact lens conversion chart or you ' ll just end up there and give it as it was? Supposedly the px wants contact lens

    Yes you can convert it into contact lens prescription after Spehrical equivalent.

    If cyl is upto 1.5 cyl then you can apply spherical equivalent to minimize cyl.

    No... Once you add 0.25 in 0.50 cyl increase , then no need to perform spherical equivalent again.

    No need to get spherical equivalent in your case..if you feel no problem in your glasses then continue..otherwise you can undercorrect it by optometrist

    Suppose prescription is. +2.00DS/ -1.00 DC 180 Half of cyl is = -0.50 cyl Then +1.50 DS will be the final prescription.
