This is the kind of review we need more from MCN. Owning a bike is not the same as a single ride on a crazy power Italian bike in perfect weather. Great job neevesey. I'm placing my order for one tomorrow (having ridden all the competitors over the summer).

Thank you!... great interpretation and translation of your "long term "feelings" with the single R...I had a late 2016 model for over 2 years and did 16 000 km there about, really enjoyed it, then moved to a 2021 XR in Feb this year, done already 12 000 km with it, no complaints but the single R is still up there... the single R bike is smaller, lighter, certainly more nimble, seat height is definitely more "friendly " for not so tall blokes.... all great machines, nice to live with everyday day, very fast and great quality machines! and.... oohh so enjoyable!... thank you Michael, regards from Still Bay South Africa

Excellent review Michael. I have this exact same bike which I purchased 6 x weeks ago. There is a lot to like about the bike and the other major thing you didn't mention is the quick shifter which is absolutely awesome to engage and has a cool synchronising sound aspect to it as well. I am quite happy with the standard exhaust and have ordered the BMW windshield which in my opinion should be standard. Apart from that this is the best bike I have ever owned.

I have had my racing red s1000r sport now for 4 months and covered 2,000 miles and I can honestly say I love it - looking at it before I get on it, when I am riding it and after I have got of it. Setting it on Dynamic Pro where you can change the settings to suit your riding preference, you can enjoy the pops and crackles when closing the throttle and changing down with the blipper - it makes me giggle every time. The heated grips, cruise control, hill hold assist, self cancelling indicators make the ride enjoyable and easily compliments the TFT screen which is the best of class. It is light and nimble around town and engaging and thrilling on the twisties. For me the bike looks sexy, strong and purposeful which even without the constant positive comments on how it looks from admiring passers by make me feel very lucky to have it as my bike. Try it, find out for yourself.

It is still weird for me to wrap my head around 5.2k miles being a multi-year mileage for such bikes. But after talking to some local BMW dealership blokes they say vast majority come with ~2k miles for their yearly service. To each their own fun and as much as they can but I can't understand getting tricked out GS1250's for 25k EUR and doing 2000 miles a year. Still, makes for some lovely pickings on the second-hand market ;)

Other than I get questions like is that a Honda, Yamaha, kawasaki, or Suzuki, because the engine has absolutely no uqunie sound. Other than sounding rather generic. If BMW would put a cross plain crankshaft engine in the bike and raise the horse power to 175. It would be a serious contender in the super naked bike world, it would finally have some 👂 ear candy like the Aprilia Tuono that you so highly talk about in my opinion. And BMW S1000R offers a 3 year warranty, heated grips, gas guage linked brakes and cruise control and did I mention a three year warranty. 🤔

I think I saw a thought-bubble above the Ducati saying, "Come on you old plonker, swing a leg over and I'll make feel 20 yrs younger - GUARANTEED"...

Are you reviewing the new S1000R? Your video infers It as a 2021. I live in California and the new model is a 2022.

The one major thing I despise on this bike is the Catalytic converter and associated plumbing. It was like a complete afterthought and BMW R nD at the last hour and with the last bit of budget had to go into a scrap bin and “get er done!” mentally. They could have covered it somehow. Instead they chose to leave it like that. And it’s visible from both side, but worse on the left side. BMW……LCI…get er done, please.

Great review. Don’t understand why it didn’t win the recent naked group test when it’s the bike you’d choose to actually own. Most of us only have one bike in our garage, so that’s the question we want answering; which one of the group would you choose to own if it was your money you were spending and you didn’t have several other bikes to choose from.

I know what you mean, but you have to take your personal likes out of the equation when you're testing. Instead you have to judge them on different criteria - everything from value to what they're designed to do. For a super naked to be the best it has to have the devil in it and the BMW doesn't, although it's a great bike. If I chose the bikes I actually liked, every test would be won by either a TMAX, GSX-R750, Tuono, S1000R or my race bike!
