This is a really helpful video for those of us trying to get our heads around the changes BMW has made to the S1000rr. The current model (2019-on) is already easy to ride on track, and it will be interesting to see how the new electronic features translate in real world usage for average track day riders.
Thoroughly enjoyed the review, honest and insightful from one of the humblest and gracious motorcycle test riders EVER!
Always a great review by Neeves! Thank you.
Just rode one of these at the California Superbike School. I'm getting old and far from the world's best rider, but this thing made me feel like a hero. I was nervous for the first few laps, but this is so easy to ride.
Good info and a great video, Michael. Thanks!
As always, fantastic, concise and honest review. Keep well.
The more reviews of this bike I come across the more impressed i get… I guess it lacks the theatre to make it a great bike. Im really liking the new looks though. Great review yet again👍🏾

It's way better than the 🇯🇵 crap, that's old or overpriced. It's an improved bike, that's around the same $ as the ancient🇯🇵 1,000cc junk they keep peddling. And it's cheaper than the pos r1m, comically overpriced. Even the SP is overpriced, when you see what the s1k offers. BMW deserves our beans for this jewel!🚀🏍
I'll be ordering one. What you said about the steering I felt that with the last gen M-Spec with carbon wheels was so flickable and easy to corner. I thought they couldn't improve on the last gen but here we are. Value for money compared to the new Ducati's
Amazing review. thanks! Wish there was more of riding video clips but not that kind of review. Keep it up
Great review as usual 👏 I have felt a bit of that video game feeling on my 2020.. I guess it's even more noticeable now
Wow Michael what a detailed comprehensive review. Seems like you were almost shocked by how good the bike is and what is available to delve into with the electronics. Maybe the track is the place to exploit it's performance but with such a high level and be comfortable eneough for a European tour surely makes it a great bike. I had a Gen3 and thaught that was good, how things move on!
Nice review. Thanks for that!

Best bike reviewer on the net.
Let’s just emphasise this. CARBON WHEELS & SLICKS are probably the 2 *biggest cheats* BMW could’ve thrown at it. I remember the first time I ever tried slicks on a track and I couldn’t believe the way it “stuck” you down to the road, especially at full lean, or on the gas vs a road tyre. Those changes are huge.

Great assessment,thanks again.
I'd rather have lectronics than highside or lowside. It also saves your bike from wasting power tearing up your tires on road and on track. Once Im upgrading from my 600, I think the beemer will be first choice.

@@NudaMan yeah i'm running a fz6n and honestly there are times i fucking wish i had electronics. i could have used ABS a few weeks ago when i almost crashed. but i was lucky that i reacted by muscle memory and avoided the collision. car pulled up in front of me when i was doing 160km/h fist of front brake slaming down the gears engine breaking but nope ain't gonna brake in time so right before i was about to hit the car in front i gave a cunt hair of rear brake which of course locked up the rear. front then steered away from the car and rear end started sliding so i was like milimeters away from hitting it sideways when i released the brake and the rear end just sling shot straight again right before it hit and bike got a minor death wobble.

Great, honest and humble review Neevesy. Thank you. As someone who has a very similar racing experience and about the same age and dimensions. I’ve heard several “riders” talking about how much this slide control will help them on the streets. I’ve simply added that only 0.00001% of riders would be getting close to using it on track days, let alone street riding. I raced against both Troy’s (Corser and Bayliss) and in a race being out breaker into a corner and seeing the first of the two back it in corner after corner was something above my level of abilities. Keep up the great work. 👍😎🇦🇺

Beautiful machine, if I ever wind up with lots of excess cash I will consider one.
Good review 👍👍👍
My 22 M-Sport was one of the most amazing bikes I have ever ridden and owned, I loved it. I ended up selling it as my on road antics became a little extreme. I am an advanced Motorsports race car instructor and defensive driving instructor too as part of my job and could not afford to lose my licence, plus I started to think here I am preaching good driving habits and safety when doing defensive days, but I ride like a lunatic when it suits me on my bike, it wouldn't be a good look if I got busted for it and the Australian police are savage too. I would love another one, but it would have to be track only.
Good review.
I am watching the video like I am going to buy it tomorrow but I don't have money even to buy the sticker of it.
AWESOME AMAZING VIDEO GREAT ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Great video Michael. I have a 2020 S1000RR Sport with Performance Pack (Adjustable swingarm, Forged lightweight wheels, Lithium battery, RACE Pro modes etc). I think based on your summary towards to the end, I'll stick with mine and then wait for the next gen (Gen 5) to arrive, rather than trade up for this facelift version. Seems like a great bike though and BMW smashed it out the park with it. Almost makes the M1000RR irrelevant really IMHO.

Words of wisdom on the RR 👍
Quick question, I have the 23' S1000RR but it's my first bike and I only had 5 days bike experience when I was doing my bike license so I am afraid to push it. What your saying, talking about traction and slide control is that essentially going into a corner I can max throttle and/or max break on a corner and the electronics will keep me safe and avoid crashing my bike??.
Great video. Neevesy is just the best. As much as I applaud, appreciate and am in awe of the engineering, I just don't understand the obsession with this class of motorcycles. I rode the older versions on track 5 days in total and I couldn't agree more with the statement "u just need to be a pro to tap into the potential of this bike". What is the point of pouring Einstein-grade science to help "mortals" control and tame the power? It's like saying, I ride a dragon - oh nice, how - well, I drug it with 100kg s of opioids, then put heavy steel chains on each leg, muzzle it and then hop on it. Maybe we start with a horse? I see guys in advanced groups thinking they are rossi on these things, then a really good rider comes along and runs the course 10 secs faster on an old stock R6. Wait, we need more power, let's get the 240hp 175kg new ducati, because that was the problem. What's next, AI's will pilot 400hp bikes and people will watch from their tents with a phone and tell their friends all about how fast they are?
this video is making me want to upgrade already hahaha
The question to ask is are you getting one to replace ur current race gen4?
Neevsey should have been our prime minister - what a guy! Mash Allah
Great info. Thank you. Quick question: Any "Panigale like" heat issues with the S1000RR? A bit about me: Had a Panigale 959 and Monster 1200R simultaneously. Traded the Pani for a Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak. However, I miss the Panigale. Thinking of trading the Monster 1200R for a superbike while keeping the Multi. Seams like the S1000RR is a more suitable choice for predominantly street riding than a Pani V4S and better value, even with all the bells and whistles added to the M package. Your opinion?
@bjornfr9
Жыл бұрын
I went from a 1200R to a S1000RR 2022, and the heat is an issue since there are less fairings and no exhaust under the seat. the pick was between pani v4s or s1krr and I don't regret my decision :) perhaps sometimes I wish there was more exhaust sound in the lower rev range. But the smoothness, price and cruise control was the dealbreaker.
The best bike in the world after experience
I miss the asymmetrical lights though.

Biggest question I have is can I use race pro and link my phone? My 2020 won’t let me
Neevesy is the GOAT🐐
if Mike could not get that thing to drift, no chance, I'll be able to do it.. that'll tear my head right off!
Yes, you should buy one, it has cruise control and heated grips, and a heated and cooled seat. I made the last part up.
@dougiequick1
Жыл бұрын
You mean heated seat is not an option? I'm still waiting for some kind of A/C on motorcycles ...seems to me a miniature A/C compressor and high pressure blower could pipe cold air right into one's leathers via a magnetically attached hose that sits right behind the tank...you hop on the bike reach down and clunk the fitting is latched on easily disconnecting by it's self the moment you hop off the bike ...I envision one's entire riding suit slightly inflating with thermostatically controlled air pressure...must be something really hard about this as it has yet to become a thing....dang but I want it though! Even if it adds 25 llbs itll be worth it on hot summer days ...the ones I currently am drenched in sweat because I wear all the gear all the time

Talk about humble - well done Neeves 👏. Most riders will always claim they can push a bike to it's max when in reality most ride on the road and simply take more risks. Also seems that biking is becoming a bit disconnected now from the full experience similar direction to the car world. You are just present there and then rather than feeling a full bombardment of joy and fear on the analogue machines.
@rampage3337
Жыл бұрын
no bikes are different than cars. bikes are still controlled by you these electronics are just there to help the bike go faster. even MotoGP could not do 1/3 of the speed they are doing without any electronics. and yeah most riders will claim they can push a bike to it's limit. specially middle aged people who think 10+years on track and never dropped a bike is a good thing and not a sign of them not being able to push the bike. if you never crashing you never pushing
Been the best 1000 sport bike since it cam out.
Lovely looking bike and I'm sure it pulls like a jet - but is there still that vibration? The current bike is good for about 40 minutes then you have to get off...even with weighted bar ends! If so....I'll buy a Harley...ha! The Blade is butter compared to it....and yes I own a RR! But won't buy another one again unless the vibration issue is fixed.....
Wait, has this just done in my SP2? 😮🙈😂 Great review as always. 👍 Can’t wait to see the M review…
How long does it take a guy to figure out all those electronic settings? I'm currently on a 2000 ZX-9R, and that's about as analog as a proper sport bike gets....
Are the US-spec bikes going to be handicapped with the same mid-range "hole" in the RPM range that was present on the previous gen?
@xorbe2
Жыл бұрын
It's the same powertrain more or less, you'll have to flash to restore full power. As I understand it, it's a combo US+Euro emissions issue.

Any BMW owners have problems with the current generation with buziness? My Gen 5 ZX10 didn’t buzz at all but I rode a friends previous Gen S1K and my whole right side was numb.
Even the original was easy to ride. Still wickedly fast.

My main thing is the BMW is an awesome track bike but the fact of the matter is is that BMW wasn't trying to build the ultimate track bike it was kind of a mix between the two to make the ultimate street bike for the average man to use so people that say it's docile or it's a dad's bike well yeah I'm like 50 years old I'm all for it
