Love how Michael is so humble. Compares himself to the likes of you and me when he has probably ridden every sports bike known to man at an amazing level at some of the best circuits in the world. On top of that the guy races bikes. It wasn’t that long ago that we had to buy magazines to find out how good a bike was, now we just click on KZread and a pro like this is giving us more information than we could ever have imagined. Great times and great bikes.

I have high hopes for Toprak on it. The bike has potential. In MotoAmerica (WSBK based tech rules) this year Cameron Baubier returned from Moto2 and was immediately fast and a title contender on the M1000RR and if not for some bad luck and injury, was capable of winning the championship. The bike was every bit as fast as the Panigale V4R ridden by Josh Herrin at the faster tracks, they absolutely walked the Yamahas on the long straights. Next season I would not be surprised if Beaubier wins the title. With Toprak's talent hopefully they can improve the bike in WSBK and show what that bike is capable of.

I still think the 2019 released m package s1000RR is the best looking. Not a fan of those wings on either the new M or RR and they are pointless for the road rider if they only become relevant at 180mph. Those front wheel covers also spoil the looks and again useless for the road rider if they are only useful over 150mph.

I thought I was over inline 4s, but I got to ride the BMW M1000R this past June and I was really impressed - what a great feeling package, from the engine to the handling. Given that the brakes and suspension on this RR seem to be excellent ... are Brembo and Ohlins components more than status symbols? Do they outperform what's on the RR? And from another angle, is BMW justified in charging that much for a bike with components that aren't top shelf (even if only in price)?

Of course, competitors will be able to do the same, so you're not any further ahead. But if you're taking your own bike to a trackday and want more speed, thats an easy way to get it.

Serious question. With the aerodynamics designed for downforce, and to aid in keeping the front wheel down for acceleration... What effect do those aerodynamics have were you to wheelie with the electronic aids turned off? Is there a wheelie angle where those aerodynamics start working against you and start to produce excessive lift?

Serious answer: these wings are only there for marketing purposes. They do not reduce wheelie tendency. This bike costs more than a Ducati. You need to have unique selling points, why customers should pay 36 grand for this bike. One is the enormous F1 style front wing.

@@dacat8171... They do do something as they produce 22.6kg of downforce. Admittedly at around top speed. So it's not just marketing guff, there's some performance benefit there.

@@8iker Ouh, 22.6 kg at 312(?) km/h!?!? Usually engine torque has long gone when top speed is reached and therefore wheelie tendency should not be an issue anymore. To me it is therefore only marketing. High down force at top speed is a requirement from a F1 car, but not for a race bike. At the Tourist Trophy 2023 campaign the BMW front wheel took off on every section where other bikes without front wings took off, too.

@@dacat8171 ... I get all that, I really do. I ride a ZZR1400. I had one that I achieved 205mph on, so I understand what happens to a bike at very high speeds. But none of this answers the question of "is there a point where (if you were to wheelie) those aerodynamic aids become counter to downforce and produce lift because their angle of attack?"

@@8iker Uuuups, I missed answering your major concern. Yeah, there must be an angle of attack, when the foil produces lift. Only BMW knows the 'Lift(alpha) curve' of that device. Of course you could also perform some experiments in your backyard wind tunnel with the front wing mounted. Where have you got those 22.6 kg from? That source may have some further details. I assume that these devices have not got a future. They look sophisticated, but that is it.

I still think this bike is just for people with more money than sense and those that just want the bragging rights - well OK I could not afford one so I am a bit jealous so I will have to stick with my 100% reliable (so far) 2021 S1000RR m package.

If I was gonna spend this much I'm going with Ducati. I never would spend this much though, so the S 1000RR for half the cost and nearly the same performance makes way more sense.

The BMW M 1000 RR would smoke the BMW S 1000 RR at any track! But if you're just riding on the road normally then the extra performance won't really matter. Though if you have the money the BMW M 1000 RR would be as close as you will get to the leading bike in WorldSBK - TopRak specially tuned version of the BMW M 1000 RR...
