Probably a silly question but why wouldn't this be street legal, it seems safer than a regular 3 point

I believe its because a harness makes you unable to lean forward and check your blind spots because it keeps you locked in place but I feel like you could solve this with properly adjusted mirrors, I have friends that drive on the street with a harness and haven't had issues with the cops, it probably depends on where you live and if the police want to make it a issue.

You'd be surprised but a 6-point harness is more likely to kill you. The issue is that while your body is snug, but there's something on top of your body that doesn't get the memo: your head. During a collision, your head will keep moving forward due to inertia and possibly cause a "basilar skull fracture" (which causes serious symptoms or even death). This is why you should *only* use a 4-point or 6-point harness when wearing a "HANS device" which is designed to restrain your head during a collision (and decrease the likelihood of serious neck injuries). Now tell me, are you wearing a helmet and HANS device when driving your car to work? Chances are, you aren't. A 3-point harness found in roadcars has some stretch to decrease the force excerted on your neck (by allowing your body to move forward), lowering the chance of serious neck injuries. This is also why, when a collision occurs (no matter what retention system you use), you should always seek medical attention if your neck hurts even a bit.
