We would walk into one of there ambush's and they weren't 20 feet away. Other times they had us out numbered and surrounded. Then there was the Jungle, Leaches, bugs, Misquotes, snakes, spiders, and ants and you couldn't see 10 yards in front of you. Plus we were carrying that heavy M-14, and in the jungle it's not a good battle rifle .You want to get your adrenaline pumping? Try fighting the fight we fought in the Jungle! That's what I was a fister. 13 foxtrot fire support specialist or aka forward observer. We called in arty rounds or cas(close air support). They call us Fisters because our mos logo is a fist holding a lightning bolt so that's where the term fister came from

As a 20 year Fister working as the BDE FSNCO, our DS in AIT always said it was because the FST (Fire Support Team) was called “Fist” as it was easier. And as it grew, the FO’s would say “I’m a Fister” and it’s grown as such. Yes our gauntlet is a fist holding a lightning bolt but I believe that emblem was derived after the slang term.

@@TexanAmerican Very true, it's something I've had since leaving the forces, it effects me every single day. It got worse since my time, still serving my country dealing with some of the world's worst kind of people, in the Prison Service. 15 years off disrespectful people, trying to kill you, assault you, spit at you, slash you tc etc so don't start that crap as if I was being disrespectful. It was a little joke. Get a life mukka!!

The 240 gunner that had the misfire when yall said "what was that?" Was prolly a cooked off hangfire from that long burst he did right before it. M240s are notorious for cooking off rounds if you fire for too long.

@@borkwoof696 Indeed they are. Which just means the bolt in locked to the rear in condition 1 unlike most firearms. If the bolt sends a round forward and you have a misfire for some reason (usually cheap rounds) then the round will sit in the barrel, Or receiver assembly, and can cook off if its hot. Thats why you treat every misfire as a hangfire and wait before ejecting it. Last thing you want is to eject a round and have it grenade on you.
