Young Kids are amazing at crossing language barriers. I once saw Polish toddlers speaking with German toddlers in the playground who met just 5 minutes before. Each in their own language but also picking up words in the other language. They seemed to half understand and half guess. It was amazing to observe that!

that's why we are the only human species left. There where stronger and smarter naked apes until the end of the last ice age. We survived, because we can work together. Afaik Homo Erectus had more brain volume, but the part, responsible for communicating was significantly smaller than that of Homo Sapiens of the same time. Humanity rules the planet, because we love and care, we feel empathy and help each other. Whenever we stop doing that, things turn ugly.

Once when I was back in America for a visit, I met a German woman who lived there who was married to an American and was trying to raise her kids to be bilingual. She asked me to speak to her kids in German so that they would hear it from someone besides her for a change, but they flat refused to speak to me in German. They looked at me like I was insane when I spoke to them in German, and they would only answer me in English.
