Chinese Speaking White Guys Catch Gossiping Nail Salon Workers Red Handed

Ойын-сауық

Want to learn Chinese or any other language from my own courses? Check out: www.streetsmartlanguages.com/
The other day we white guys who speak perfect Chinese went out to NYC’s Chinatown to the nail salon. They were “gossiping” about us (in a loving way!), not realizing we spoke Mandarin, and then we totally shocked them by switching to Chinese! We ended up having a really deep and interesting conversation with them in Mandarin and the rare Chinese dialect of Fuzhounese.
So to find out what they are REALLY saying about you at Asian nail salons…just watch the video! It was a funny prank / social experiment but also a really meaningful experience. Plus of course it’s interesting if you’re interested in language learning!

It's funny that the white guys have fake modesty. They both know that they speak great Chinese and play it off every time with the locals. The women just love them....

It's much easier to speak fluent-sounding than it is to understand, you can prepare entire dialogues in your head if you're the one going to add something to the conversation but you could be caught off-guard if the conversation changes and you haven't prepared any dialogue for the subject

No it’s what happens when your parents are immigrants. And you go to an all English school so you learn English to help you talk n meet friends, and forget your language that our parents only know. I’m American Vietnamese and I wish my mom taught me Vietnamese instead of only learning English. My daughter is 2 years old and knows Vietnamese cause of my wife and her parents and English cause of me lol

I’m Brazilian, so I speak Portuguese but I’ve studied English since I was a teenager and I’m able to speak in both languages pretty well. I went to a restaurant with a friend and on the way we decided that we should pretend we were Americans. It was FUN AF because people went OFF on us talking s**t. Calling us many many ugly names because they could bet we didn’t speak Portuguese. I was having the time of my life. At the end of the dinner we said: “Can we have the bill e uma garrafinha de água pra viagem?” The waiter turned RED and said (in Portuguese): “You speak Portuguese? I’m so so sorry! We didn’t meant to offend anyone! I’m so sorry!” I was laughing so much. It was so fun. 😂

My Spanish speaking, half-Mexican brother-in-law, who some mistakenly assume is a just an English-only speaking "gringo", used to run a business in an area with many Hispanic customers, and there were a few times that rude customers would gossip in Spanish, assuming he didn't understand, and he would "play dumb" until they approached the counter and were respectfully greeted in Spanish! You never know! Just because a person looks a certain way doesn't mean they don't understand what you're saying!

First time seeing a video of y'all. Speaking so many languages is so awesome! I've lived in deep south TX(takes me about 20 min. to get to Mexico) for my whole 34 years, and know about...maybe 30 or 40 words in spanish. 13 of those are numbers! 🤣🤣 But my Dad knows spanish. He picked it up as a child. I remember a story of when he was a foreman at a construction sight, and how the guys "under" him would constantly talk sh*t in Spanish, because of course they assumed he didn't understand. He let that go on for months...them just sh*t talking him right in front of him! Then one day one of them asked him something, and he responded in Spanish. He said the looks on their faces was hilarious. Like..."oh sh*t!! What have I said about him, in FRONT of him, in the past?? 😥😥😥" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 So he careful, because you never know. Lol

TBH even if the translation is inaccurate I didn't think he was trying to make her look rude. It was clear she was referencing the weirdness of recording getting his nails done. I thought she was really sweet and I love how happy people in his videos are at hearing their languages being used by a foreigner so far from home :) They always light up!

So why wouldn't he have told them that they were recording for a video, that's usually what KZreadrs do lol or make it obvious it's for a KZread vid. Isn't it illegal to film someone and show their identity without their permission? That's why people get their faces blurred in reality TV shows or some KZread shows so they don't get sued. Idk, I'm confused with this video. But that's not to say this isn't far from Asian people do gossip about their customers in their own language (which is really rude by the way, to talk about them thinking they won't understand. And right in front of them too.)
