Hey Xiaoma, just a suggestion, I think it will be more fun if you'll do it like this... Usually when they hear you speaking their language, they get surprise right? then eventually will respond using their language. When they do, then that's the time you act like you don't understand them then talk back in English asking what they said making it looks like they're hearing things 😂

@@morbidgirl6808 That’s pretty f’ed up. My mom always tells me to keep practicing, but she also tells me when I’m getting better. Learning a language can be difficult, and if you aren’t from the same place as your parents you’re always going to sound different than them. That’s why everyone in my family sounds different despite speaking the same language(s) 😅.
I have actually had someone speak to me in my own native language and not understood a word they were saying, not because they were terrible at it, but because my mind was trying to translate the sounds into any other language than the right one. It's a really weird experience, and took me a few seconds to realise I could actually understand everything they were saying.

Had a similar experience when I was in Tokyo a couple months ago. I'm French, so I didn't expect Japanese people to speak French obviously. I was struggling to get a metro ticket, and a Japanese salary man waited behind me. I felt bad, thinking he was maybe in a hurry, so I stepped back and offered him to go first. He saw that I had picked French on the machine, and he responded to me in perfect French that he could wait. I'm not kidding, at this moment, my mind just went blank 😂 I didn't even realize that he actually spoke French to me, I thought I was hallucinating, and then he went on to explain to me how it worked, all in French. Well, maybe not as many Japanese study French as study English, and it's true that many of the Japanese who study English don't gain true fluency in English, but French is still a major world language. so it makes sense that you'll find some Japanese who learn French through school and/or who have lived and worked in French-speaking countries, with some acquring high fluency. It's not like a random Japanese person busting out Albanian or Hungarian or Czech (and I am sure you can find some who know those languages as well). There's even a French movie called "Hiroshima Mon Amour" that is set in France and features a Japanese actor who speaks his lines in French in the movie.

People, love it, when you make a little effort to make them feel at home. Its a relief to be able to just speak freely im sure
This was hilarious “ I don’t mean to talk shit about you I’m sorry” then the laughter from the lady on the chair haha
In college I had a friend that was American but raised in China and she would always do this when she was out. If someone was talking about people in Mandarin she would listen in and tell me what they were saying. It feels like a superpower knowing what someone is saying when they don’t want you knowing.

Oh this is the best one yet!!! I was a game warden in SW KS, and knew enough Mexican Spanish from putting myself through college working at a meat packing plant that I KNEW when the Mexican people I contacted at the lake were smack talking me, and shut them down politely, saying it would be good not to add to their trouble.. After that, they all treated me very well when they came to the park on the weekends.. some of us became friends!
