Wow ! Beautifully done Paul . . . Very impressive work. In fact, this was the best video I've ever seen on the Pearl Gourami breeding process. I watched the entire production from start to finish. . . Never a dull moment. The whole progression from courtship to spawning to the fry growing up was perfect. The information you provided was spot on as well. The music was also perfect, it really set the tone for the whole process. That intro with the spinning globe= fantastic! I'd love to steal that! 😁 This is one of the most thorough and well-thought out spawning videos that I've seen in a very long time. Thank you. 😁

High praise coming from you Dave. I’m revisiting and spawning fish that I’ve kept and bred many years ago. The great thing about having modern technology that allows the recording of the whole process - much better than the old note taking of the past. Many thanks for your kind comments 🤓👍

Thank you for the very detailed film. Do they have seasons for breeding or do they show any signs and then you put them in a breeding tank?

No they don’t appear to have a breeding season that I’ve noticed. Just pick a pair were the female looks like she I carrying eggs and the male is showing some interest in her. If you have a large enough tank the male will chase the female away after a couple of hours and they may spawn repeatedly over the next few days or until the female is empty of eggs…

Did you switch completely to bbs/powdered food after 5days feeding infusoria? What was the powdered food you used? Can you share how often you did water changes and amounts approximately removed each time? How old are the fry in the final part of the video?

The fry in the final video clip are 16 weeks of age. As far as feeding is concerned the infusoria is fed twice a day (morning and late afternoon) and continues to be fed for about 3 weeks. During the day I use a small dusting of Golden Pearls fry food when the fry are tiny and introduce BBS very gradually from about day 5 (v small amounts to begin with). Partial water changes start at about 2 weeks when around 10% is changed using warm aged water and increasing amounts are changed as the fry grow. I hope that answers your questions?

This pair (a a wild pair) took 3 or 4 days but the female was very heavy with eggs. It will differ from one pair of fish to another…

I thought that I'd put them in the video? Off the top of my head: pH ~ 7.4. GH ~ 4 and KH ~ 2. Have another look at the video to check that I'm correct...
