Space Invaders: Virtual Collection retrospective: The Andromeda eyestrain | Virtual Boy Works #18
Ойындар
We're nearly done with Virtual Boy Works, but before we can put a bow on this venture, we need to tackle the four daunting Japan-only collector's pieces that shipped in the console's final month of existence in that market. First up is Space Invaders: Virtual Collection, a pretty decent recreation of and embellishment on the venerable arcade classics. It's a game that would be a no-brainer pick-up if not for the fact that its value has shot into the stratosphere thanks to its extreme rarity. Oh well.
Thanks to Chris Kohler for providing this game for coverage.

I'm just glad to have something to watch in my subs which isn't E3 related.
Suddenly you using the Four Fiends theme last episode makes sense
In the flood of E3 related videos in my subscription list, this shining beacon of awesomeness made my day.
OOOOOOoooooooohhhhh. Now I get why the 'next time' music changed. LOL

I was going to say the exact same thing.
I don't know why but I absolutely love the look of the Crab Space Invader. He's adorable.

I'm just here to say this video has a brilliant, brilliant title.
Just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed your comprehensive retrospective on Virtual Boy, and I'm looking forward to seeing you cover the remainder of the so-called "Shitenno" VB titles.
Nice to see there is an updated mode that sells the 3D effect. Shame it's so expensive, but I guess it is what it is.
There's actually a great vive virtual boy emulator that works in both classic mode and a free standing mode where the games layers are frozen in space in front of you. The latter is very playable. And don't hurt your eyes! Teleroboxer and the gundam tactical game are fun
My personal favorite for 'bad guy squad that consists of four members' is the Dark Warlords from Ronin Warriors, aka Samurai Troopers.
Gotta love that intro chiptune.
Now I'm starting to wonder what the Shitennou for other failed, short-lived platforms with minuscule libraries such as Sega's 32X or Nokia's N-Gage would be... Oh, for the record, by "minuscule libraries", I mean those whose libraries consist of double digit amounts _at most_
The “3D” mode is reminiscent of Radar Scope and several other SI clones from that era.

True. Kinda strange that Space Invaders itself took nearly two decades to attempt the gimmick for itself.
The preview for the next episode killed me.
>Rush lyrics in the intro Eeyyyyyyy~! >Sailor Moon references *Eeyyyyy~!* See, this is why I follow this channel.
Don't tell me they actually made Pipe Dreams for the Virtual Boy...

The next game is "Virtual Lab", whose logo does look like a set of interconnected pipes.

Nah, just a really bad puzzle game that's derivative of Tetris *and* Pipe Dream
Surprised you weren't in a rush to use that reference before now.

I was wondering why that Final Fantasy IV music was playing, lol. It makes sense now, tee hee
Did the PS2 Space Raiders release in America? I know Mastiff of all publishers localized the GameCube version
You forgot to add this one to the Virtual Boy Works playlist
Oh, I could never get the last one. My brother always got it for me!

Move down and to the left
Games like this is why even the virtual boy had one existing flash kit albeit limited, and soon a full fledged one later this year that runs like an everdrive. The final four are insane to get. I for one am avoiding the Japanese stuff outside of Space Squash (not yet) and V-Tetris (have.) I'm one off from the US games, and no it's not the most expensive one.

Oh yeah. I recorded all these big-ticket games from a FlashBoy+. Chris K. was cool enough to let me photograph the packaging, but I wasn't comfortable carrying four little cartridges whose total value comes to $5000+ across the country.
fyi mini vaders was only ment as a pack in to arcade cabs as a japan law said all cabs had to have a game with them
I feel warm, happy tingles from any mention of FFIV.
Oof. I'm glad I didn't get into completing platform collections.
18 down, four to go.
What's with the ending? Editing mistake or purposefull foreshadowing?

I don't know what mistake you're referring to.
I look forward to when work on the Virtual Boy flashcard will be completed so I can try this out on real hardware without spending $700 USD.

@@JeremyParish Yeah, I'm aware of that. But I'm on the waitlist for the MultiBoy, which will be a true VB flashcart that can hold more than just a few games at a time. I've got a good collection of 15 real VirtualBoy games, but the the others are just too expensive to justify. Are you going to cover Bound High? I think it's absolutely one of the best games for the Virtualboy and deserves one of these videos.

I'll have to look into MultiBoy! Padding and loading the big ticket ROMs onto FlashBoy was a hassle.
You went a little Tom Sawyer on us at the start of this one. I hope you didn't have to Rush to get this out.

It's detailed in the video caption accompanying the packaging photography-Chris Kohler lent it to me.
You know, the 3D viewpoint actually looks pretty cool. But I grow tired of Space Invaders fast.
