I think because older films were so close to radio that they're so great to listen to. Modern films rely so much on special effects that listening to them is like cats fighting a garbage can - and that's just during the dialog.

If you like to have a laugh with low budget sci-fi props, study the space ship interior. Look at the upholstery on the chairs. Check out the military surplus consoles that could be used for a submarine set. The tape recorder is a Concertone Transicorder TR-100 dictation machine repurposed for OUTER SPACE lol. I admire the creativity the props people used with such a low budget and so little time. Besides, it's 1961. It's all new! The high altitude pressure suits with leather boots could be space suits. Hardly anyone knew the diff. So many fun things to look for.

8 years later we had men on the moon. 63 years later and we are struggling to re-invent the rockets and even the spacesuits we used to achieve that one small step.

@@slawomirb1984We now have lunar orbiting satellites, from different nations, with cameras powerful enough to take ultra-high resolution images of the actual landing sites, showing lunar rover tracks and the instrument packages the astronauts manually deployed on the lunar surface. Everything exactly where it should be, lining up precisely with the tv broadcasts from the lunar surface during the late 1960s to early 1970s. Some people can't even remember where they parked after a half hour's shopping. You may have been joking, but if not, go ahead and rejoin those who hang on every word of the *con-spiracy artists.* Honestly, the shows they put out on the "History" Channel and other trash tv outlets should come with a laugh track. With their fake tans, silly hairstyles, and equally silly accents, they use bad science and plots they stole from old movies to tell tales that grow taller every time they repeat them. All of this to convince gullible people to buy their book$, DVD$ and digital box set$. The usual suspects turn up on one show saying we didn't land on the Moon, and then just switch channels and they're on another show saying that somehow our wealthiest have been building and living in secret bases on Mars for years. Who cares if these theories contradict each other? The con-spiracy artists have lucrative book and tv deals. It's easy to make stuff up off the top of your head when there's lot$ and lot$ of money to be made.
