Soviet PMK-1 Review: Its a bad gas mask

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Soviet PMK-1 review as requested, in my opinion the PMK-1 is a bad gas mask/respirator and a step backwards from the previous Soviet helmet-masks.
The mask has a weird inner-face seal that gets in the way, the mask is made from a soft rubber that caves in-on-itself when the straps are tightened and has no anti-fogging system.
Masks like the ShMS and the PBF (Minus the cheek filters) were much better masks.
The complaints I have with this mask extend to the GP-7, however the PMK-2 and PMK-3 may be much better, I don't own them so I can't give input on them.

This mask could've been worse. I've seen an image of one of the prototypes for this mask which had a huge cheek filter on the side instead of the 40mm port.

When I first got my gp7 it was very tight and uncomfortable but for whatever reason it just slips on now. Perhaps it's because I put it on often, and I solved fogging my moving the mask up so that the mask doesn't touch the bridges of the nose...

Has anyone else noticed on the GP-7V the eye lenses have extra seals on the inside? I don't know what they are for but made use of them by putting anti-fog lenses in them and it works brilliantly. But this video definatly highlights the differences between the PMK and GP-7. Boy am I glad I made the right decision.

They must have made improvements because I estimate, endurance wise, the V model is about as comfortable as a GP-5. But I always have to wear a balaclava with the GP-7V so I don't lose any hair to its ever so sticky rubber.

Maybe that!/ just my mask but I've got the exact same PMK mask (voice wilther is black tho) and it fits well. I have no problems with vision, but yes, the mask fogs really fast and its really soft. PMK-2 is actually the same thing, but has only iron-ish metal parts and different filter system. Both of PMK's are awful to wear with m88-like helmets (the upper part doesnt fit) and it only works with spetsnaz round helmet with face shield. Both of them doesnt have nose cups either, so buying another PMK is just a waste of money, even for collection. Telling this a person who owns both of them. They look nice, but not good at utility or military use.

I have a GP7 b.,.. wich is simular. I can see the criticism but, i found out that mine is a size 1, wich i normally take a medium size. I dont have a high degree of fogging because more of my nose and mouth are in the cone. If i used a bigger size, i would imagine a bigger gap between my nose and mouth and the mask, making more exhale steam. Idk...maybe people just need a tighter fittng mask with these. Masks with a seperate nose and mouth cone can be larger and more spacious. Just some thoughts on the matter. Thank you

Tissot tubes, invented by a French guy over a century ago. It's two tubes that lead from the inhale valve to the eyepieces, so that a part of the air that is sucked into the mask when you inhale is directed directly at the eyepieces, causing them to defog on each inhalation.

Because it moves around a bit more when you have it on you. Only for those that dont know that you have to tighten it up some more. I have no problems with this mask. I have a theory why this mask is soft, because of the Russian cold. I bet harder masks get a beating faster than this one. One more thing why i prefer this mask, it was used in Chernobyl. Cant say that any other mask has that experience on the field. Hahaha

My pmk 2 fits me perfectly, but I'm mostly slavic so ??? As for quality I avoid GP7 and pmk 1 as the 2, and 3s were made once the Russian federation was established, not at the end of the Soviet union
