If your state was in the confederacy your southern, Robert e lee is from Virginia and he’s southern. Not everything is about “culture” if your from the south, you grew up with this culture, and nobody talks about the northern culture, only about southern culture and classifying people in states like florida, Virginia and I’ve even seen North Carolina be called a northern state, just because you don’t think it is , doesn’t meet it’s not because look up states in the confederacy and the American south and FLORIDA, VIRGINIA, NORTH CAROLINA, are apart of the south, all the people saying states are not southern are toxic people from the Deep South trying to make themselves seem better because they have to much time on there hands.

@@murp61 yeah if that were true, Texas, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee shouldn’t be Southern because of places like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Nashville, Miami, and countless others. But I guess because Virginia has Richmond and North Carolina has Charlotte they’re pretty much California on the East Coast. That comparison fits better with New York.

NC u might not be included on this list for some weird reason but we love ya from your neighbors in Tennessee...

Kentucky was not a union state, it was more mixed if anything. Just because they were part of the CSA doesn’t mean they are "southern" now. Though North Carolina definitely still has a huge southern culture, and deserved to be ranked on here. Though Virginia does still have some southern culture, it as not as much as the other states that are considered southern.

I would only count North East and East Texas as "Southern", not South and West Texas. These Texas areas near the border areas are more linked to New Mex and Arizona than Kentucky and Alabama.

All the metro areas in the South are basically blue (there's a particular vein of blue that seems to go through the piedmont region of NC/SC/GA and up the Mississippi river.) NC is undoubtedly Southern, but the cities are getting major influx of Yankees, particularly those of retirement age. If I walk past some old people in the grocery store, they're as often as not talking with New York accents.

The fact that North Carolina is not included as a southern state invalidates this entire video. NC is the fucking south. I live here I can tell you, this place is the south.

I love how in the thumbnail NC isn’t marked red like all the other southern states. You just totally forgot about us. We ARE a southern state. 😅

Missouri was (partially) Confederate as well. Missouri's Mark Twain is considered a Southern writer. But pretty much everyone these days considers Missouri mid-West.

I am from NC and it is absolutely southern! Growing up in central NC most people consider NC definitely southern and states like Virginia, West Virginia, & Kentucky as quasi-southern bordering on mid-atlantic. NC is a fantastic state and in my opinion the best southern state.

A couple cities in Virginia feel Northern. Like the ones around DC, and some cities have there own thing going on like Norfolk, and Williamsburg, but the state as a whole is southern. Virginia isn't on this list, because it would have won. Virginia is doing well, unlike most other states in the south.

Half the state's population is Southern Baptist, and half of the rest of the population is what my mother used to call fire-and-brimstone Methodist. Kentucky was also a slave state, and the state supplied more Confederate soldiers than most of the states in the Confederacy.

No. Does a state that borders Virginia and Tennessee sound like a Midwest state? No. Same goes for Missouri, Maryland, and West Virginia. None of those states seceded and thus don’t belong in the South.

I give Virginia its Southern status just because of its role in history as a southern state. Now, as someone who has spent a LOT of time in VA I must attest, the northern half has turned into an extension of D.C. and Maryland so geographically speaking yes VA is most certainly a southern state but culturally speaking: it honestly depends where you are in the state (like Florida).

The whole "Florida Man" thing is somewhat of a misnomer. Florida doesn't necessarily have more crazy, whacked out people getting arrested than other states. They just have state laws that allow arrest sheets and mug shots to be made publicly available almost immediately. This leads media outlets looking for crazy arrest content to mine Florida especially heavily. This giving the impression that this stuff happens more often in Florida.

Virginia has the most Confederate monuments in the South, Virginia is still southern despite having liberal cities like Manassas in Northern Virginia and Richmond. The rest is very Conservative. What about North Carolina?

All states have "liberal" and neo nazi....errr "conservative" areas. Cities tend to be liberal because when you live around people, you have to have some manners, hygiene, and people skills. City people realize they have some degree in interdependence on one another. Rural people tend to believe they are 'independent'. That is a delusion. Not having any friends doesn't make you independent. It makes you superfluous.

This "worst" list looks almost like it's in reverse order. 😅 Florida, Texas, and Georgia are probably the only states I would choose to live in on this list. And I'm originally from Alabama! Lol.

North Georgia is especially gorgeous with the mountains, Lake Lanier, and metro Atlanta. But I enjoy the beaches in Florida too.

I would choose Georgia if it was Atlanta and surrounding or even Warner robins. North Carolina has many good places and also Florida is good anything Orlando going south is a good fit for me. I love the beauty of Tenessee but Tenessee reminds you of a beautiful lady who is very mean and super traditional that loses the appeal in wanting her

In Florida we have a saying. “The more south you go, the more North you are.” Florida is the most NON southern state 😂

I'm guessing that he left those off for clicking purposes. It worked for me. He's also done Northeast, Midwest, and West. Some states didn't get ranked in any group, such as Alaska, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and Va and NC.

There's not a specific place called Southern Virginia it's just the parts that aren't Northern Virginia LOL. Texas isn't really that Southern anymore, thats really most East Texas. It would be hard to convince me the I-35 corridor, Houston, El Paso and Rio Grande Valley are culturally western. Mostly just rural Texas which is becoming a smaller and smaller slice of the Pecan pie. Texas is kinda a combo of Southern and South-western culturally. The Carolinas are definitely Southern.

As a native Texan, I will agree that Texas is a combination of the south and southwest. I’ve lived in Houston, Lubbock, Fort Worth, and by San Antonio and I have noticed that the western half of Texas which includes Lubbock is more like the southwestern states, while the triangular hub featuring the big cites is more like the south.

I’ve lived in TX my entire life. I have made several road trips across the south and it’s really shocking when you cross the TX border into Louisiana or Arkansas. You can tell those states have far less funding. And it gets worse the farther you drive! Mississippi and Alabama are so run-down and unattractive. Once you cross into Florida though, you know immediately because the highways and scenery get so much better. Love the South but if you want to move here I only recommend TX or FL.

Anything South of the Mason-Dixon Line is southern. I’m from North Carolina, but I’ve lived multiple places in my life. If the majority of people say y’all, and cashiers call me baby or suga, it’s the freaking south. I’m from the 252, but we got shiners in the hills, and coastal hill Billy fishermen. North Carolina is definitely southern along with West Virginia and Virginia

Don't worry. I'm from GA and I know. NC is more southern to me than GA. Ga is a mini Hollywood now with the people being born and raised here feeling out of place.

Ask a third- or fourth-generation Virginian, North or South Carolinian if they are yankees and I'm sure you'd discover the flaw in your map. It doesn't matter the politics nor the amount of people who've moved from overpriced and overtaxed areas outside the South, though maligned, Southern is a cultural identity that you don't get to define.

There are plenty of people in Virginia and North Carolina who would not consider themselves Southerners. The demographic map has changed over time. I have lived in Virginia and South Carolina. SC is definitely South. Virginia is more progressive and felt more like a Northern state to me. It wasn't nearly as conservative nor segregated.

@@DIVISIONINCISION 95-99% of North Carolinians consider themselves southern. The only people who don't are transplants from northern states. If we're not southern, why do a good amount of us sound like we're from King of the Hill? Why do most of our restaurants serve sweet tea? Most of our population is Christian too and we have lots of churches. We are solid in the Bible Belt and are very comparable to the Deep South.

Driving to Florida every year I take a different route, Arkansas and Mississippi looked run down big time Alabama wasn’t much better the closer you got to the Gulf the nicer it looked. Florida is king of the southern states, the beaches are the best in mainland United States

From someone who lives in Mississippi you must only be looking on the highway the in both Mississippi and Arkansas most of the town is not on the highway and is further in but it is pretty nice up north very little poverty

I do like some aspects of the South. People are more easily contemplative, warmer and less anxious about everything. This is my impression from a reeeeaaaal far country based pretty much on literature, videos and a Southerner I once met. So God bless, I can't comment much.

North Carolina is a must have on this list and unfortunately it is not there. So that means this list is somewhat inaccurate at the bare minimum

I've never considered TX to be a southern state. It's a southwestern state. FL may be southern, but not like the deep south states. Good for that shop owner about "gays". He is a righteous person.

You didn't include North Carolina or Virginia in these Metrics so all your data is flawed, not to mention its a downright insult to Southerners everywhere that they were excluded.

I will agree that Texas is huge however from what you’re telling me chances are you lived in the drier part of Texas out west. I was born and raised in Houston lived there for 24 years and seen multiple tornadoes across the city in that timeframe. Tornadoes tend to thrive in warm humid climates which is why they are also rare in places like Idaho or Utah.

Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, North Carolina is fully southern. Then North Florida, East Texas, South Virginia and even parts of Missouri, Oklahoma and West Virginia fits into the Southern culture. A lot of places dont fit into a neat category.

Amusing video but lost credibility with me for not including North Carolina. Virginia is southern too, with the exception of a few counties in northern VA. Heck, I'd include the eastern shore of Maryland as being southern too.

7. Some of those aggregated things you see that looks like a bunch of junk put together should not be considered as a pejorative. Most rural southerners know basic carpentry, plumbing, electricity, horticulture, mechanics, and other useful skills for which city people pay someone $200-$300 to do and may have to use some vacation time to be at the house for the repair. Rural people just stop by Home Depot, spend $15-$20 for parts and fix it when they get home from work. Remember KillDozer? I’d put it up against many of our tanks from WWII any day. A lot of southerners go into Engineering and so did I. When we had laboratory classes where practical tasks (not solving some Calculus-based problem in a textbook) had to be performed, I could just wire up the circuit quickly, run my experiments, write my report, and turn it in while many of the city students still hadn’t completed constructing the circuit. As a R&D engineer, I thrive because I can create my own test fixtures in simple ways but still sufficiently accurate for the purpose. 8. We have racetracks in the south because we like tinkering with cars. Just like with home repairs, instead of taking a car to a shop and spending maybe thousands, we’ll troubleshoot, isolate the problem, and then go to Autozone or - if the part isn’t available at retail auto stores - go order the part from the dealership or online and then fix it ourselves, all while grumbling about the lack of space in the engine compartment or where the engineer decided to place the part within the engine compartment. 9. In the south where the population is growing and available land is scarce, often young adults who want to get out of their parents’ house will buy a trailer and put it on a section of their parents’ land. This is cheaper than renting an apartment, you can sneak all your friends over for a party after your parents fall asleep, and when you’ve saved up enough to cover the down payment on a house, you can either find an existing house for sale or (this happens a lot in the south) you can buy a lot from your parents (most will just give you some of their land as long as you promise not to sell it to anyone else) and build your own house. It’s less expensive and you choose your style. Of course there are many people who just remain in trailers so they can spend their money elsewhere and in the moderate climate of the south, trailers are comfortable until a tornado or hurricane comes along and disassembles it for you. The south doesn’t typically have cheap, old, empty houses like you see for blocks and blocks in Detroit or Cleveland. Plus, if you were rude to a bad person, you can put wheels on a trailer and make a run for it. 😉

Certain parts of NC are further south than parts of SC, and my hometown in NC is nearly as far south as Atlanta. In what way is that not the deep south?
