Southern Okra Recipes - 3 Ways to Cook Okra in a Cast Iron Skillet

Get my 3 favorite Southern Okra recipes here! We grow okra in our garden each year, so we always have a TON of okra to use up. So I've definitely mastered how to cook okra in a cast iron skillet over the years, and I'm sharing my 3 favorite recipes with you!
1) Fried Okra in a Cast Iron Skillet - This is my favorite fried okra recipe and it only takes 2 ingredients - mustard to act as a binder for your breading and Louisiana fish fry mix. Add in some hot sauce with the mustard and toss to coat for a little extra flavor. So easy and so good!
2) Blackened Okra - Another 2 ingredient Southern Okra recipe. Just add a little ranch dressing to your cut okra and stir to combine. Then sprinkle on your favorite blackening or Creole seasoning and cook in your cast iron skillet until tender.
3) Okra Succotash - Or I call it my "Okra Hash"... Cook some chopped bacon in your cast iron skillet, and leave all of the cooked bacon and grease in the skillet. Add cut okra and saute until about 75% done. Then add fresh corn, sliced onions, and diced bell peppers or poblano peppers to the skillet and cook until done.
Three super easy Cast Iron Skillet Okra recipes that don't take many ingredients but pack a punch of flavor!

One bowl, no eggs. This recipe is a game changer. Thank you sir. Because of this video, I'm going to plant okra today! (I'm in the tropics🍹)...one tip, you can put your okra in the sun for an hour after slicing to dry off any slime

Excellent! I remember well picking okra in 110 deg. temps out in West Texas and my Aunt Lottie frying it up in the cast iron pan. It is, by far, my favorite vegetable dish. Picking okra was, for me, a bit of a challenge at first. My mother told me it was a lot like picking cotton which she did as a little girl (supposedly the two plants are related). Thanks for the post!

Normally my preferred method for okra is whole, coated in olive oil and sprinkled with whatever seasoning appeals that day then grilled to a light/medium char on the coals, but might have to give that "blackened" version a shot. Thanks.
