This is the fifth episode dedicated to the wines from Italy, and part 2 of our mini series dedicated to the Italian white wines. In our last episode, we looked at the whites made in the North of Italy, which are in large numbers and often made in quantities, and today we’re continuing our tour of Italy, our Giro d’Italia, looking at White wines or Vini Bianci as the Italian would say, made in Central and Southern Italy, because yes, the Italian boot makes more reds than whites, especially the further South you go, but they make delicious whites worth some attention in every region because Italy is diverse and there’s surprises and delights everywhere. So, let’s have a look into some of the main styles there that you should definitely know about.

Hi Julien, over the last few years I have enjoyed your videos so much. I live in a condo in Alberta Canada and since Covid have run regular wine tastings. Your great presentations have often helped me and I now am planning an Italian wine tasting. The information in your Italian series will be invaluable and I will be searching the shelves for some of the lesser known grape varieties, especially the whites, although I fear they will be few and far between. However I am sure, with your help, we will all experience Italy through the wonderful world of wines. Thanks again!! David 🇨🇦

Nice video, thank you; I missed the Vermentino from Liguria, I found it one of the nicest whites south of Piemonte and Veneto
Frascati, Est Est Est di Montefiascone and Orvieto are 3 historical denominations but so far no one produces wines worthy of their history, it is easy to find mediocre wines with these labels. Pecorino has nothing in common with Sauv Blanc, the two Verdicchio delle Marche (Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Verdicchio di Matelica) deserve a video only for them considering the typicality and goodness of these wines which began 30 years ago with the phase post amphora. In my opinion it is by far the best white from Italian grapes.
