South Dakota Late Season Pheasant Hunting

Backroads, friendly small towns and big numbers of pheasants. We hunt near Cresbard, South Dakota with Dakota Lodge and Guide. Cresbard is a small community in east central South Dakota. This operation rents out a very comfortable home for pheasant hunters and also offers access and guiding packages. We hunted a combination of slough bottoms and CRP along with some shelterbelts and tree groves. Late season hunting where the birds were concentrated around good cover. We saw a lot of pheasants and good numbers of roosters. Many birds get up wild late in the season, but enough birds held for the dogs where we were able to harvest a lot of pheasants. Really friendly people and a very welcoming community that appreciates pheasant hunters. Truly felt like this area/ state/ region probably offers some of the best pheasant hunting available to today's hunter.

The Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus) is a gamebird native to Asia, it is the only pheasant species that was introduced to many parts of the world, it is also the largest of the four species of common pheasant, there are eighteen subspecies within five subspecies groups, the earliest subspecies group is the Phasianus torquatus sohokhotensis group that contains the Strauch's Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus strauchi), the Sohokhoto Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus sohokhotensis), and the Alashan Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus alaschanicus), followed by the Phasianus torquatus torquatus group that contains the Tonkinese Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus takatsukasae), the Shandong Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus shandongensis), the Sichuan Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus torquatus), the Hainan Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus hainanus), and the Formosan Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus formosanus), and then followed by the Phasianus torquatus karpowi group that contains the Shansi Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus kiangsuensis), the Mandarin Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus liaoningensis), the Manchurian Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus pallasi), and the Korean Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus karpowi), with a more recent split being between two subspecies groups, one being the Phasianus torquatus hagenbecki group that contains the Kobdo Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus hagenbecki) and the Ruo Shui Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus edzinensis) and the other being the Phasianus torquatus mongolicus group that contains the Mongolian Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus mongolicus), the Zerafshan Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus zerafschanicus), the Syr-Darya Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus turcestanicus), and the Aral Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus torquatus bergii).

Good shooting and excellent video production. Were all the birds hunted on these properties wild?

If it's a guided hunt there's very low chance on them not throwing out a shit load of birds

Private access.... Sure, what do you expect? Public ground gets wacked with the FEW birds S.D has to start with. Kansas has definitely been hit with extended draughts. Their bird count reports are not good. However, the DNR reports are honest and transparent. Unlike, ????????

Leasing up lands is the 1 cause for losing our youth to hunting, kids and the common person can't afford this.

Lots of landowners will hunt the public if they know there are birds. Greedy.
